2nd International Seminar on Online Higher Education in Management

Presentation

OBS Business School is organizing the 2nd International Seminar on Online Higher Education in order

to continue the discussion on online learning and to brainstorm new online higher education projects. We

will exchange views with institutions from different countries, discuss best practices, start collaborations

and develop quality standards to be considered in the online higher education sector.

about your institution and to hearing your thoughts on our common objectives as a network.

1st International Seminar on Online Higher Education in 2014 which included a considerable number of

experienced and influential members.

Creating a permanent network of online higher education organizations for the International

Observatory of Online Higher Education in Management to provide a viewpoint of sector trends and follow

developments in the field.

Sharing academic, organizational and course delivery best practices to determine how to optimize

opportunities and minimize challenges of virtual education.

Exchanging views on online education sector developments, including opportunities and limits, rights

and duties in cross-cultural and multilingual education.

Defining quality standards of online learning, as well as evaluation methods and guidelines.

Monday, 19th October

Welcome and opening speech

9 am: OBS Business School CEO - Jordi Solé.

9:15 am: OBS Business School Academic Director - Andreu Bellot.

9:45 am: Stavros Xanthopoylos, PhD in Philosophy, Business Administration – Knowledge Management. Dean of Fundaçao Getulio Vargas, Brazil.

The speaker will analyze how the student is asked to participate and interact with the lecturer and the group in different online education models as well as in a face-to-face training environment, offering participants a starting point for defining, in work groups, students’ roles and their presence in online training.

10:45 am: Work groups:•Concept of the student’s virtual presence.•Rights and duties of the student in a virtual classroom.•Responsibilities and limits of lecturers when interacting with the student.

David Shani, PhD in Marketing, Director of the Global MBA Program at Kean University, USA.In a traditional classroom environment, students from abroad understand the need to comprehend and adapt to the environment they are in, while teachers must know how to give examples or elements that help them understand. In an online environment it is not so evident who should make more effort so that all students understand and relate learning to their daily environment.

Work groups:• Lecturer’s role in respecting differences and multiculturalism. • Advantages and limitations of the online environment for integrating and interacting with and between

multilingual and multicultural students.• Adapting teaching to mixed classes.

handing over documents, appropriate evaluation of the subject according to the student’s profile and a lecturer’s personal guidance. Analysis of how online training tools aid monitoring and guaranteeing an institution’s overall quality (performance, satisfaction and recommendation).

Work groups:• Learning analytics, concept and realities.• Documentation and welcome.• Monitoring and evaluation of progress.• Orientation and motivation for success.
