Dear Immanuel Family,

We are entering April and our Annual General Body is nearing. In the light of the change of the Executive Committee, this Newsletter is the last one published by the present secretary. I thank God for all who served on the Executive committee this year, especially the office bearers. I specially appreciate and thank Mr. M A Varughese on behalf of the parish, for all the extra efforts he took for publishing of Newsletters and Reports in time.

We are in the days of great Lent and moving forward with the observance of the lent season towards the holy week. May these days be an occasion for introspection, ret-rospection repentance, correction and renewal of the self and that of the community. These days remind us of the mixed experiences of Triumph, rejection, humiliation, torture, suffering and ultimately victory on the cross. We head towards Easter, the celebration of victory over death and the forces of death. All cultures and religions have festivities associated with this message” victory over evil “. Indian celebration of Diwali and Holi are just few examples but what makes Easter distinct is that Christ gained it through suffering rather than violence. This is a great model of peace gained through peace and not violence. When other stories say about shedding evil blood to destroy evil, our Lord shed his own righteous blood to save us from evil. This is the ba-sis of Ahimsa(non-Violence). He prepared our salvation and opened the door of heaven for us sinners. Let us experience that salvation in our life and live in the shadow of the cross to lead a life of victory over evil. Resurrection of our Lord gives us grate Hope to march forward even when we are in the valleys of suffering and rejection. Because He lives........ I can face tomorrow..Because he Lives...

May the Presence of the resurrected Lord be with us.

Mr. Babu Thomas, (56 years old), member of the Oklahoma Mar Thomas Church and father-in-law of our former member Mrs. Christine Thomas, (Thyparambil Thankachan’s daughter) passed away on Tuesday, March 7th 2017 in Oklahoma. Mr. Babu Thomas was known to many of our parish members.

Mrs. Achamma Koruthu, (79 years old), Mother of our Parish Member Mr. Saji Koruthu, ID 272 of Bethlehem prayer group passed away on Saturday, March 11th 2017 in Thuruthikkadu, Mallappally, Kerala.

Mr. Varkey Varghese, (96 years old), Father of our Parish Members: Mrs. Aleyamma Varkey, w/o of Mr. Varkey T. Varkey, ID 117, Mr. Varghese P. Varghese, ID 194 and Mr. Mathew Varghese, ID 195 of Salem Prayer Group and Grandfather of Mrs.Smitha Jacob, w/o of Mr. Shaji Jacob ID 495 of Bethel Prayer Group passed away on Sunday, March 19th 2017 at Tiruvalla, Kerala.

Mrs. Elizabeth John, (53 years old), Sister of our Parish Members: Mrs. Annamma Cherian, w/o of Mr. Cherian Zachariah, ID 237 of Ebenezer Prayer Group and Sister of Mr. Shibu John, our malayalam choir secretary, ID 311 of Carmel Prayer Group passed away on Friday, March 24th 2017 in Houston. There are colleagues and many friends of Mrs. Elizabeth John in our Immanuel Parish.

Mr. Mathai Mathew, (71 years old), Member of Trinity Mar Thoma Church passed away on Monday, March 27th in Houston. There are relatives and many friends of Mr. Mathai Mathew in our Immanuel Parish.

SUNDAY SCHOOL•The Southwest Regional Sunday School Competitions will be held on Satur-day, August 12th, 2017 from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm at St. Paul’s Mar Thoma Church, Dallas. The cost per participant for the Regional Competitions is $15.

•Sunday School is planning a field trip to the Houston Zoo on April 22nd 2017. The cost off the trip is $20 per child. The last day to register is April 9th 2017.

•The 2017 Diocesan Sunday school Exam will on Sunday May 7, 2017. Please see Sunday school superintendent for more details and for registration of the above activities.

YUVAJANA SAKHYAMYuvajanasakhyam is planning a 3 day retreat at camp Mohawk in Alvin, Texas from May 12th evening to May 14th noon. We plan to have a refreshment of mind through the word of God during the 3 day retreat. Registration fee is $50 for kids 4-12 years of age and $75 for adults. The registration fee includes food and accommodations for all 3 days. Registration is limited and is based on first come first served. CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF OUR BELOVED VALIYA METROPOLITAN.

As part of the Centenary Celebration of our beloved Valiya Metropolitan, the Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom, our diocese is planning a felicitation meeting at 6.30pm on Friday, April 17, 2017 at the E Hotel Banquet Center, Edison, New Jersey. There will be an admission coupon of $50.00 for the contributory dinner of which the proceeds will go to the “Meals on Wheels” program initiated by Chrysostom Thirumeni. All are invited to participate in this program.

A WORD OF THANKS FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

I thank God Almighty for all His Shelter, Guidance and Goodness He bestowed upon us as Individuals, Families and as a Parish in the 2016 report year on all our lives experiences and all walks of life. 2016 was a challenging year as well in our Parish life as we had only one Achen to lead and serve 400 + families and not able to receive the leadership and services of our beloved Secretary for the full report year.

But God has plan and purpose for all of us and I am very humbled that I could be a part in His Divine Plan & Purpose fulfilling the responsibilities that the Parish entrusted me with.

I had the blessed opportunity to work with a very able and efficient Priest of the Mar Thoma Church this past year. Achen’s vision, mission and commitment are highly laudable. Very precise in the decision making, very transparent and defined in the recording process of the minutes and report to help the follow-ing committees and Vicars in the future, are couple of highlights in Achen’s leadership. It has been a very learning experience in my life. Achen, Susan Kochamma, Vachan and Keerthana, we thank you from the bottom of our heart for all your prayers, guidance, support, love and care.

I thank my fellow officers and the 2016 executive committee members for all your cooperation and support in the execution of all our parish activities. I express my sincere thanks to all the members of this Parish. Your prayers, your unconditional support & love and your valuable inputs helped us to move forward in this faith journey.

As this is the last News Letter published by the 2016 Secretary, I want to recognize one Individual who walked the extra mile and put his second effort every month in the last report year who helped me publish our News Letter on time despite his very busy schedule, our very own Mr. Biju T. Mathew. Biju, words are insufficient to thank you. May our Good Lord reward you for your sacrifice and efforts.

May God Bless us all. May the Good Lord continue to bless and use Houston Immanuel Mar Thoma Church for His Glory. Thank you !
