Thirty years and millions of steps.Thank you!In 1985, a small team of women in Vancouver voluntarily organized a walk and started raising funds to help end global poverty. Thirty years later, the World Partnership Walk has raised almost $90 million and attracts some 40,000 supporters in ten cities across the country: Calgary, Edmonton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria.

This year, over $7 million was raised to support Aga Khan Foundation Canada’s (AKFC) international development projects in Africa and Asia. Thanks to these funds and your long-standing support, individuals and communities are lifting themselves out of poverty one step at a time. Whether this is your first year supporting the Walk or you are one of our 30-year veterans, every single step you take to support global poverty alleviation is making a big difference overseas.

We launched the Walk with an important announcement about AKFC’s partnership with the Government of Canada through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development. More than a million people will benefit from a new program that aims to improve the access and quality of healthcare in Central Asia, strengthen education programs for children in East Africa, increase collaboration with local organizations in the field, and help Canadians understand how development works and inspire them to get involved.

A program like this would not be possible without the generosity of you, our Walk supporters, who helped raise one-quarter of the funds for this program.

This national event is a key part of AKFC’s work in Canada. Every year we are inspired by the leadership and dedication shown by Ambassadors, volunteers, donors and sponsors. With over 600 teams registered, 300 participants in the Dance2Walk video, a new Change is Possible exhibit on event day, and one of our most successful Mother’s Day campaigns yet ($372,000 in one weekend); we can’t wait to see the creativity and enthusiasm in store for 2015.

Trente ans et des millions de pas. Merci!En 1985, une petite équipe de Vancouver a bénévolement organisé une marche en vue de recueillir des fonds pour mettre fin à la pauvreté. Trente ans plus tard, la Marche des partenaires mondiaux a recueilli près de 90 millions de dollars et attiré quelque 40 000 sympathisants dans dix villes d’un bout à l’autre du pays : Calgary, Edmonton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Montréal, Ottawa, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver et Victoria.

Cette année, la Marche a permis de recueillir plus de 7 millions de dollars qui serviront à soutenir les projets de développement international de la Fondation Aga Khan Canada (la Fondation) en Afrique et en Asie. Grâce à ces fonds et votre appui de longue date, des individus et des collectivités se sortent de la pauvreté un pas à la fois. Qu’il s’agisse de votre première ou de votre trentième Marche, chaque pas que prenez pour appuyer la lutte contre la pauvreté dans le monde fait une grande différence à l’étranger.

Nous avons lancé la Marche avec une importante annonce au sujet du partenariat de la Fondation avec le gouvernement du Canada, par l’intermédiaire du ministère des Affaires étrangères, du Commerce et du Développement. Plus d’un million de personnes bénéficieront d’un nouveau programme qui vise à améliorer la qualité des services de santé en Asie centrale – et l’accès à ces derniers –, à renforcer les programmes d’éducation pour les enfants en Afrique de l’Est, à rehausser la collaboration avec des organismes locaux sur le terrain, à aider les Canadiens à comprendre le fonctionnement du développement et à les inspirer à s’engager.

Un programme tel que celui-ci ne serait pas possible sans la générosité des sympathisants de la Marche – vous, en l’occurrence –, qui ont contribué à collecter un quart des fonds qui financent ce programme.

Cet événement d’envergure nationale est un élément clé du travail de la Fondation au Canada. Chaque année, nous sommes inspirés par le leadership et le dévouement de nos ambassadeurs, bénévoles, donateurs et parrains. Avec plus de 600 équipes inscrites, 300 participants à la vidéo Dance2Walk, un nouveau kiosque Le Changement est possible et une des quatre campagnes de la fête des Mères les plus fructueuses à ce jour (372 000 $ recueillis en une seule fin de semaine), nous avons hâte de voir la créativité et l’enthousiasme qui marqueront l’édition 2015 de la Marche.

The Foundation works with local communities to identify and implement sustainable projects that will have the most impact – projects that revitalize rural economies, ensure clean water and sanitation, strengthen community-based organizations and educate new generations of girls and boys, women and men.

Simple steps. Big impact.Before Josephina’s family built this clay silo, their crops of beans and sesame were often destroyed by pests and rats. Now that all of their crops are safely stored, the family can save enough food to eat during the lean season and sell off the surplus.

Your support helps individuals and communities make the most of their local potential – crucial in areas of rural Mozambique, where more than half of the population lives in poverty.
