To adjust the temperature setting, turn the temperature controlknob clockwise (warm) or counterclockwise (cool).

If is not pressed, the system will blow ambient temperature

air or heated air.

For quick cooling, turn the temperature control knob to “MAX A/C”.The air conditioning will automatically turn on and, if an air outlet

position other than or is selected, the system will beset to recirculated air mode. While “MAX A/C” is selected, it is notpossible to turn off the air conditioning.

To select the air outlets, set the air outlet selector knob to thedesired position.The positions between the air outlet selections shown below canalso be selected for more delicate adjustment.

n To prevent the windshield from fogging upDo not use during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. Thedifference between the temperature of the outside air and that of the wind-shield can cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking yourvision.

Using the automatic air conditioning system

Press .

The air conditioning system begins to operate. Air outlets and fanspeed are automatically adjusted according to the temperature set-ting.

Turn clockwise to increases the temperature and turn

counterclockwise to decreases the temperature on the

driver’s side.

When is pressed (the indicator on is on) or the pas-

senger’s side temperature control dial is turned, the temperature forthe driver and passenger seats can be adjusted separately.

n Using automatic modeFan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature settingand ambient conditions. As a result, the following may occur:

l The system may switch automatically to recirculated air mode when thecoolest temperature setting is selected when the ambient temperature ishigh.

l Immediately after the switch is pressed, the fan may stop for a while untilwarm or cool air is ready to flow.

l Cool air may flow to the area around the upper body when the heater ison.

n Switching between outside air and recirculated air modesRecirculated air mode or outside air mode may be automatically switched toin accordance with the temperature setting, the outside temperature, etc.

n Using the system in recirculated air modeThe windows will fog up more easily if recirculated air mode is used.

n Window defogger featureRecirculated air mode may automatically switch to outside air mode in situa-tions where the windows need to be defogged.

n When is selected for the air outlets usedFor your driving comfort, air flowing to the feet may be warmer than air flow-ing to the upper body depending on the temperature setting.

n When driving on dusty roadsClose all windows. If dust thrown up by the vehicle is still drawn into the vehi-cle after closing the windows, it is recommended that the air intake mode beset to outside air mode and the fan speed to any setting except off.

Rear window and outside rear view mirror defoggers

Defoggers are used to defog the rear window, and to remove rain-drops, dew and frost from the outside rear view mirrors.

Before operating the defoggers, make sure the back window iscompletely closed. (→P. 94)

Vehicles with a manual air conditioning systemTurns the defoggers on/off

The defoggers will automati-cally turn off after their opera-tion time. The operation timevaries depending on the ambi-ent temperature and vehiclespeed.

The engine switch is in the “ON” position.

Vehicles with a smart key system: The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.

l The back window is completely closed.

n The outside rear view mirror defoggersTurning the rear window defogger on will turn the outside rear view mirrordefoggers on.

CAUTION

n When the outside rear view mirror defoggers are onDo not touch outside surface of the rear view mirrors, as they can becomevery hot and burn you.

Windshield wiper de-icer∗

n The windshield wiper de-icer can be operated whenVehicles without a smart key systemThe engine switch is in the “ON” position.

Vehicles with a smart key systemThe “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.

CAUTION

n When the windshield wiper de-icer is onDo not touch the lower part of the windshield or the side of the front pillars,as the surfaces can become very hot and burn you.

This feature is used to prevent ice from building up on the wind-shield and wiper blades.

Turns the windshield wiper de-icer on/off

The windshield wiper de-icerwill automatically turn off afterapproximately 15 minutes.
