Our candidate’s challengeAfter living and working in Indonesia for 20 yearsand recently getting married and having two youngchildren, our candidate was looking to return hometo the UK. He was looking for a suitable role whichmatched both his skillset and the needs of hisfamily, making sure the position was locatednear to appropriate schooling for his children.

Our solutionOur candidate worked exclusively with us to finda permanent staffing role. We found him severalsuitable jobs in various locations that matched hisneeds, including Greater London and Aberdeen.

In addition to finding him suitable jobs, we offeredhim and his family a full repatriation service. Thisincluded securing him and his wife the documentsthey required to return to the UK. We securedpassports for his two young children, booked flightsand once he had decided upon Aberdeen as alocation, we arranged a short term accommodationlease and suggested the best local schools andnurseries.

The outcomeOur candidate made a stress free and efficienttransfer back to the UK with his family and isnow working as a General Manager Operationsin Aberdeen.

It can be a difficult and time consuming process to secure theappropriate visas and work permits for contractors working abroad.Our in-house visa coordinators arrange all relevant passports, visasand work permits to ensure our contractors are fully compliant towork in the required countries.

Whether mobilizing a British national to SaudiArabia, or someone from the Philippines to theMiddle East, our visa teams will work through therelevant paperwork to completion. Dependentupon country, we’ll apply on the candidate’sbehalf, guide them through the process, or evensponsor them to ensure that all personnel are fullycompliant with immigration regulations.

Our client’s challengeOur client, one of the largest global oil and gascompanies, was working on an ultra-deepwateroil field in offshore Angola. The company neededa team to work on its floating production storageand offloading (FPSO) vessel in a fabrication yardin Singapore, before being mobilized to Luandafor the hook-up, commissioning, start-up andproduction activity.

Our solutionAs well as sourcing, qualifying and mobilizing theteam for the project, we also arranged their visasand work permits. This was particularlycomplicated due to the amount of countries thecontractors had to pass through, as several of themweren’t residing in their country of origin. One wasa British contractor, living in Thailand, working atthe fabrication yard in Singapore then beingmobilized to Angola.

In addition to this, we secured a 'Seamen's Book'for selected personnel, ensuring they had thenecessary documentation and identification towork during the tow phase of the project.

The outcomeWe worked with the Singaporean embassy todesign a bespoke solution. We sourced, placed,mobilized and arranged visas for over100 contractors from 10 different countries,many of whom were on the FPSO on the towfrom Singapore to Angola.

As part of our mobilization services, we alsoconducted an offshore readiness campaign toensure all staff were suitably and adequatelyqualified. This included helicopter underwaterescape, health and safety and fire training,medicals, immigration, visas and insurance checks.

Travelling to a new assignment in an unfamiliar country can be adaunting process. Our consultants are on hand to give candidatesand contractors all the help they need.

With offices in 25 different countries we supportour contractors wherever in the world they’reworking. We help our people settle in to their newlocations, offering support services ranging frompre-mobilization information, to meeting them atthe airport when they arrive and helping them withthe local language.

In insecure areas we work with our global networkof approved partners to provide contractors withall the information and support they need toensure they keep safe during their time in country.

Where necessary, we transport people inarmoured vehicles and provide familiarizationtours to enhance the security profile.

Our candidate’s challengeOur candidate, an American national, had beenoffered a long term contract vacancy working inLagos, Nigeria. However, he was uncertain aboutthe location, expressing concern about relocatingwith his family to such an unfamiliar area.

Our solutionWith a global network of strategically locatedoffices, we were able to supply our candidate andhis family with a full in country orientation solution.

Prior to accepting the job and being mobilized, oneof our Nigerian consultants was in touch with thecandidate to discuss the benefits and drawbacks tolife in Nigeria. He also agreed to help our candidatesecure places at the local international school forhis children and sent information on the best areasto live in.

The outcomeAfter lengthy discussions and advice about thearea and potential lifestyle change, our candidatedecided to accept the position and relocate withhis family to Lagos. As well as arranging fullmobilization, we were there to meet him and hisfamily at the airport, transporting them to their newaccommodation.

When they were ready, we also provided a guidedtour of the local area including the children’s newschool, local amenities and potential areas for longterm accommodation.

In addition, we also provided comprehensivesecurity support with our partners Control Risks,helping to keep the contractor and his family assafe as possible in their new location.

Organizing accommodation can be one of the biggest stumblingblocks when moving abroad. Whether the candidate is about to starta new assignment or is moving for a permanent role, issues withaccommodation can cause unhappiness, unreliability and in turndamage productivity

We offer to find short term accommodationfor candidates when they arrive at their newdestination. We also support them in their searchfor long term accommodation, taking them to viewproperties and arranging cost effective leases withlocal landlords.

Our client’s challengeThe client was seeking the support of a companywith proven experience of looking after contractorsin the country and dealing with local partners tooffer all necessary services.

Our solutionWe took on a two year lease for a block ofapartments on behalf of our client. Using ourmobilization and repatriation solution, we shippedmany of the candidates’ personal belongingsincluding furniture, luggage, and in one instance,a pet dog to their new home. Additionally we alsohired security and maintenance personnel as wellas a maid to service the accommodation. We alsoprovided full furnishing, internet access and homecomforts such as satellite television and phonelines.

The outcomeOur client was able to relinquish full responsibilityto us, safe in the knowledge that the contractorswould have the practical support to get themselvesset up in country and be able to go to work in theirnew location.

Our client’s challengeOur client, a global oil company, had completed anoffshore project in Angola and needed to repatriatethe project staff back to the UK. However, the flightthat many of the contractors were scheduled onhad been cancelled, leaving them stranded withno travel arrangements and no accommodation.The contractors were anxious to return home sowe stepped in to help.

Our solutionOur specialist travel team in the UK took on thechallenge of making alternative arrangements onbehalf of the contractors.

Once we had the contractors on mainland Angola,we sourced and booked a good quality local hotelwhere they could stay and relax while we arrangedtheir repatriation. During this time, our travel teamcontacted several airlines and were able to secureenough spaces on upcoming flights back to theUK to be able to transport all staff.

The outcomeFollowing their night in the hotel, all contractorswere able to return back to the UK the next day,suffering a delay of less than 24 hours, a resultwhich wouldn't have been possible if we hadn'ttaken up the challenge.

The health and safety of our candidates is of paramount importanceto us, so we provide all our people with relevant health insurances andadvice and offer them access to the most up to date safety and securityinformation.

We know that some of the locations that ourcandidates work in can leave them vulnerable todiseases such as malaria or tuberculosis, or tocompromised security and personal safety if theyaren’t fully prepared in advance. We offercomprehensive health and safety support toensure that every precaution is taken.

To ensure we fully understand the requirementsand implications of all the areas our candidateswork in, we attend the same training as them,

partaking in hostile environmental awarenesstraining and crisis management scenarios.

Our in-house security experts and partnershipswith Control Risks and TravelTracker help us keepup to speed with the latest developments aroundthe world. We also work with City Brief, an onlinesecurity information portal, providing independentanalyses of the latest political, security and traveldevelopments in over 300 cities worldwide.

Our candidates’ challengeOur contractor, a Malaysian national, suffered adetached retina as a result of a non-work relatedaccident while on assignment in Nigeria. Herequired urgent assistance if he was to regainhis vision.

Our solutionWith the support of our global medical partners,we flew our contractor to London, the nearestmedical center of excellence, on a doctor escortedplane, where he was able to attend a specialist eyehospital.

We also arranged for our contractor’s wife andimmediate family to fly out from Malaysia toLondon to be with him while he was havinghis operation and was recovering.

The outcomeWith his family around him, our contractorunderwent an operation to reattach his retinaand made a full recovery in London, completelyregaining his vision.

How we support youIf tasked with your health and safety support, we’ll:

• Support the candidates. We provide contractors with full orientation packs, advising them about what they needto do before being mobilized and informing them about any potential challenges they may encounter and how todeal with them. We ensure we keep them fully updated with the latest developments including any potentialthreats of civil unrest.

• Insure and repatriate. We provide the best available healthcare services and insurances to our contract staff.In the case of critical illness or unrest, we offer emergency repatriation through our partners International SOS,returning contractors to their home location or an area of safety.

• Inoculate and educate. We take an active approach to ensuring contractors don’t suffer from diseases suchas malaria and tuberculosis when working abroad. We offer an online learning program with a certificate ofcompletion and a wealth of information on ways to minimize the risk including the relevant inoculations andpreventative medicines.

Our candidates often work in locations impacted by security issuesor that face political uncertainty. We offer detailed security supporttailored to each individual, which teaches them to identify andmitigate any risks.

To reduce the chances of running into trouble,our clients and candidates can access a 24 hoursecurity support helpline, run in partnership withControl Risks, providing the latest securityupdates and advice on planning your trip. We alsowork with the candidates to keep them safe byadvising them of what they should and shouldn’tbe carrying, areas and amenities to avoid, safemethods of transport and general conduct toreduce their risk profiles.

In extreme cases we also offer clients andcandidates training on how to handle dangeroussituations such as such as hostile environmentsand kidnap and ransom. Our consultants alsotake part in the training so they completelyunderstand the requirements and are able toprovide a knowledgeable reference point forour clients and contractors.

Our client’s challengeWe had several contractors working on a Libyanproject, however, during the course of theirassignment a widespread protest against thenational government broke out. Soon the protestsbecame violent, putting contractors and theirfamilies in potential danger.

Our solutionSuch was our knowledge of the developingsituation that we put together an individual securityplan for each of our contractors and their families.We assessed the situation, kept the contractors fullyinformed via text, email and phone calls and werein continuous contact with our local securitypartners.

The outcomeWe recognized that events were deterioratingrapidly and through prompt action we evacuatedall of our contractors and their families from thecountry. This was completed a full 24 hours beforeWestern governments issued evacuation noticesthat initiated panicked scenes, ensuring ourcontractors were safely evacuated before the rush.

• Support the contractors. The wellbeing of our contractors is our biggest priority. We do everything in our powerto keep them safe and secure while on an assignment with us. We provide regular updates on any developmentswhich could affect our contractors, giving them access to real-time information.

Our expat concierge service will ensure thateven if our contractors are working in new andunfamiliar locations, they have all the necessitiesneeded to live in the area. Just some of the waysin which we support our contractors with thisservice include arranging social securityregistrations, local driving licences, mortgageassistance, local IT support, language translationor finding work for a spouse.

In addition, we also ensure that contractors arecomfortable in their new location by providingthem with all the home comforts they’re used to.This includes help decorating their new property,

Our client’s challengeWe were working with our client, a worldwide oiland gas and exploration and production company,mobilizing 18 engineers from a project in Perth,Australia, to a project in Houston, USA. The team,comprised of both direct staff and contractors,were from different countries around the worldand were unfamiliar with life in Houston.

Our solutionTo ensure everybody was happy in their newlocation and to keep staff turnover to a minimum,it was our responsibility to ensure the contractorshad all the amenities they required. Using ourexpat concierge service, we took time to listento every single contractor individually and assesstheir needs. This meant that the contractors hada single point of contact and were given the fullemotional and practical support they required intheir new location.
