    1. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

    A. Description

    The Model XXXXX three-place, side-, aft-, or forward-facing, berthing divan assembly, hereafterreferred to as the divan, is made up of a 2-piece divan frame. The divan is designed to meet orexceed the requirements of FAR 25.XXX, TSO XXXX, and ASXXXX, Type A as a static seat andTSO XXXX and NASXXXX Type I as a berth. The divan configuration -01 is for mounting on theleft-hand side of the cabin. The divan mounts to standard aircraft floor tracks.

    See Table 1 for Leading Particulars.

    LEADING PARTICULARSTABLE 1

    The Model XXXXX divan is shown in Figure 1. The major components of a typical divan unitincludes the base frame assembly with cross straps, a berthing top, and a backrest assembly. Sixfloor track fittings are included with the base frame assembly. The divan is equipped withprovisions for a 3-point harness restraint system for three divan occupants.

    The basic base frame assembly for the divan has two machined support legs attached andconnected by four support tubes and five cross beams. The stanchion in the center of the inboardside of the divan frame folds down to accommodate a large storage area for the divan mattress.The basic base frame assembly has an aluminum seat pan web secured with screws. There arealso six cross straps on the outboard side of the divan base frame. These cross straps areattached to the machined frames with screws.

    The backrest assembly has four support frames and one support web attached to two round tubeswith screws.

    The berthing top consists of two panels. The panels are connected with hinges and unfold tocreate a flat surface for sleeping. The berthing top has four support legs: two front outer supportlegs as well as one front middle and one rear middle support leg. Two handles are mounted on theleading edge of the berthing top.

    B. Operation

    Release the two berthing top locks, grasp the straps, and lift up on the first panel of the top. Slidethe release lever on each of the four support legs, and rotate each leg into position. A lock pin willsecure each leg when rotated into the deployed position. Pull up and outward to unfold theberthing top completely.

    To stow the berthing top, grasp the straps and lift up and inward to fold the berthing top onto thedivan base. Slide the release lever on each of the four support legs to release the lock pins. Rotateeach leg into the stowed position. Fold the first panel onto the divan base, and slide the twoberthing top locks into place.

    C. Divan Optional Equipment Description

    A storage box with two hinged doors can be added to close the divan base frame area. The doorsallow access for storage of items in the base frame.

    D. Divan Optional Equipment Operation

    To open a storage box door, pull the latch lever on the front of the door.

    2. TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION

    A. General

    No special equipment or facilities are required. Prior to performing any testing, confirm that thedivan components are in good mechanical condition. Refer to Inspection/Check. Perform testingafter thoroughly examining the divan components for mechanical defects. Testing is performed todetermine functional operation.

    B. Test Set-Up

    Ensure that the divan assembly is securely attached to floor track fittings on a test bench or withinthe aircraft.

    C. Test Procedure

    (1) Berthing Top

    (a) Slide the berthing top locks.

    (b) Verify that the top section releases and unfolds freely to the vertical position.

    (c) Slide the release lever on each of the four support legs.

    (d) Verify that the legs release and rotate freely into the deployed position.

    (e) Verify that the entire berthing top unfolds and locks into the berthed position.

    (f) Slide the release lever on each of the four support legs.

    (g) Verify that the legs release and rotate freely into the stowed position.

    (h) Fold the berthing top.

    (i) Verify that the top folds freely to the stowed position.

    (j) Slide the berthing top locks.

    (k) Verify that the locks slide freely and secure the berthing top in the stowed position.

    (2) Optional Storage Box

    (a) Actuate the latch assembly located on the front of each door.

    (b) Verify that each door opens and swings freely.

    (c) Close each door.

    (d) Verify that each door latches closed.

    D. Fault Isolation

    Table 2 provides fault isolation procedures for the divan assembly components. The left columnlists the TROUBLE as defined by the test procedure, the center column provides the PROBABLECAUSE, and the right column provides the CORRECTION.

    3. DISASSEMBLY

    A. General

    The following procedures contain instructions for disassembly of the divan. Complete disassemblyof the divan major components is neither desired nor recommended. Disassemble thecomponents only to the point necessary to make the repair or replace defective parts.

    B. Procedure

    (1) Do the following steps to disassemble and remove the divan:

    (a) Remove the storage box (if applicable).

    (b) Remove the cotter pins from the backrest clevis bolts.

    (c) Remove clevis bolts securing the backrest assembly to the base frame.

    (d) Remove the backrest assembly from the base frame.

    (e) Remove the four retainers from the clevis pins attaching the end frame assembly tothe middle frame assembly.

    (f) Remove the four clevis pins attaching the end frame assembly to the middle frameassembly.

    (g) Gently pull the end frame assembly away from the middle frame assembly andremove.

    (h) Remove the dowel pins and set screws attaching the two berthing link top supports tothe middle frame assembly.

    (i) Remove the four retainers from the clevis pins attaching the middle frame assembly tothe divan base.

    (j) Remove the four clevis pins attaching the middle frame assembly to the divan base.

    (k) Gently pull the end middle frame assembly away from the divan base and remove.

    (l) Remove nuts and washers from each floor track stud.

    (m) Lift the divan assembly up to clear the floor track studs.

    (n) Remove the divan assembly.

    (o) Remove the floor track studs from the floor tracks.

    4. CLEANING

    A. General

    The divan is to be cleaned using standard shop practices and the procedures stated below. Thedivan should be cleaned when it is operated in environmental conditions that may affect operation.These conditions (wet, dry, or dusty) should dictate how often cleaning is necessary. Cleaningagents and materials required for the divan are listed below. Equivalent substitutes may be usedfor listed items.

    • Soft non-scratching cleaning cloths• Compressed air• Denatured alcohol

    B. Cleaning

    (1) Routinely wipe the divan structural members, panels, and parts with a soft, non-scratchingcleaning cloth to prevent particulate buildup. Cloth may be dampened as required.

    (2) Direct compressed air into the door latches and hinges to remove dust and prevent dirtbuildup.

    5. INSPECTION/CHECK

    A. General

    (1) A preliminary cleaning before initial inspection will facilitate location of obvious defects.

    B. Divan Structure

    (1) Visually inspect structure and working parts under strong light and magnification. Inspect forcracks, distortion, corrosion, crossed or stripped threads, and excessive wear that mightimpair the function of the divan assembly. Replace defective parts.

    C. Berthing Top

    (1) Inspect the berthing top frame and parts for cracks, distortion, and corrosion.

    (2) Inspect berthing top structure, supports, legs, and attaching parts for wear or damage thatmay cause binding or otherwise impair operation. Check for cleanliness. Ensure thatexcessive debris or dirt has not built up which may cause binding or otherwise impairfreedom of movement.

    D. Optional Storage Box

    (1) Inspect latch and hinge assemblies for wear or damage that may cause binding or otherwiseimpair operation. Check for cleanliness. Ensure that excessive debris or dirt has not built upwhich may cause binding or otherwise impair freedom of movement.

    6. REPAIR

    A. General

    Repair of the divan assembly is limited to replacement of parts and standard shop practices.Replace all parts which fail Inspection/Check criteria. Minor thread damage may be repaired usingstandard shop practice. Minor scratches and minor surface damage may be repaired usingstandard shop practice.

    7. ASSEMBLY

    A. General

    The following procedures contain assembly instructions for assembly of the divan. However, acomplete buildup may not be required due to the extent of disassembly.

    B. Torque Values

    All fasteners shall be torqued in accordance with the torque values stated in Fits and Clearances.Technicians should familiarize themselves with these torque requirements before starting theassembly procedure. Special torque values, if any, are stated in the applicable assembly step.

    C. Procedure

    (1) Do the following steps to assemble and install the divan:

    (a) Determine the position of the divan. Mark the position of the floor track studs.

    (b) Position the studs into aircraft floor track.

    (c) Place the divan assembly onto the studs.

    (d) Install the nuts and washers on each stud.

    (e) Torque the nuts.

    (f) Align the middle frame assembly with the divan base.

    (g) Install the four clevis pins and retainers attaching the middle frame assembly to thedivan base.

    (h) Align the two berthing link top supports with the middle frame assembly.

    (i) Install the dowel pins and set screws attaching the berthing link top supports to themiddle frame assembly.

    (j) Align the end frame assembly with middle frame assembly.

    (k) Install the four clevis pins and retainers attaching the end frame assembly to themiddle frame assembly.

    (l) Position the backrest assembly on the base frame.

    (m) Install the clevis bolts securing the backrest assembly to the base frame assembly.

    (n) Install the cotter pins in the clevis bolts.

    (o) Install the storage box (if applicable).

    8. FITS AND CLEARANCES

    A. Torque Values

    Unless otherwise specified, all fasteners shall be torqued in accordance with Table 3. Duringassembly, XXXXX (XXXXX) must be applied to threaded fasteners having no other lockingfeature.

    10. ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST

    A. Introduction

    (1) General

    The Illustrated Parts List is intended for use in provisioning and requisitioning replacementparts and assemblies, and in identifying new and reclaimed parts.

    B. How to Use the Illustrated Parts List

    (1) Figure and Item Number Column

    The first number identifies the figure number. The second number is the item number andlocates the part on the illustration. The item number preceded by a dash identifies itemsand/or assemblies which have not been illustrated.

    (2) Part Number Column

    This column indicates the part number assigned by the manufacturer.

    (3) Airline Stock Number Column

    This column is reserved for airline use and will accommodate 11 characters.

    (4) Nomenclature Column

    This column lists the titles and modifiers of assemblies and parts in accordance with themanufacturer’s drawing title and other data characteristics where applicable. Items shown inthis column are indented to show relationship to the Next Higher Assembly (NHA). Attachingparts are listed at the same indenture level and immediately beneath the item they attach.The symbol *** is used to indicate the end of the attaching parts and the continuation of theassembly listing.

    (5) Effect. Column

    The Effect. column contains effectivity codes, if applicable. Part variations between differentmodel or part numbers are indicated by a letter symbol placed in this column. When partsare used on all models or part numbers, the column is left blank.

    (6) Units Per Assy Column

    The numbers appearing in this column are the total quantity of the listed part required in itsimmediate assembly or location.

    (7) Manufacturer’s Code

    The true manufacturer of detail parts is not shown in the Illustrated Parts List. Replacementparts must be procured from the prime manufacturer to ensure traceability. The primemanufacturer is XXXXX.
