3 Superfoods That Burn Fat and Boost Energy If you want to slim down so you’re looking (and feeling) smokin’ hot, I can help. I’ve put together a list of my top 3 superfoods that burn fat and boost energy. And let’s be honest, what girl doesn’t want that?! By adding these three simple foods into your diet, you’ll be feeding your body what it’s really hungry for – essential nutrients that help you look and FEEL better! Ready to find out what these superfoods are? Let’s dive right in! Super Food #1: Maca What Is It? Native to Peru and Bolivia, this yummy root that goes by the name of “maca” has a 5,000 year history. Despite being around for that long, it was only recently introduced to the Western world. It has a slight butterscotch taste and is great for weight loss, because it helps to eliminate sugar cravings. Maca can be used to boost energy, increase libido and fertility, and increase serotonin levels in the brain (serotonin is that sweet nectar that leads to feelings of well-being and happiness). Why Is It Awesome?

• It has lots of fiber. It prevents the body from storing as much fat. Instead, it flushes it all out. Maca has 5 times more protein and 4 times more fiber than a potato!

• It’s nourishing for the adrenals. The adrenals sit on top of the kidneys and regulate hormones and energy levels. When your adrenals are fatigued, you gain weight, feel fatigued, lose focus, and are more distracted. You also produce more cortisol, which can lead to storing belly fat – something most of us try to avoid!

• Having maca can even help reverse adrenal fatigue!

How Do I Use It? You can include maca in some of your favorite foods by:

• Adding it to a smoothie (my favorite!) • Sprinkling it over a dessert • Putting it in a juice • Adding it to a soup • Putting a bit in some warm almond milk with superfood #3 for a delish drink!

Super Food #2: Hemp What Is It?

Hemp is considered to be the world’s most perfect food – how cool is that?! It has a slightly nutty, earthy flavor but will take on the flavor of whatever it’s combined with. If you want to lose weight, a great idea is to use hemp as a protein powder. And remember, hemp isn’t the same as marijuana. It’s considered the sister plant of it because it doesn’t contain THC, which is the psychedelic component that makes people feel “high”.

Why Is It Awesome?

• It’s packed with fiber. In fact, it has both soluble and insoluble fiber, which help fill you up fast so you don’t get food cravings or feel the need to overeat. It also helps with sugar cravings.

• It’s rich in plant-based protein. Your body will use ALL of this protein as opposed

to an animal protein, which your body will only use a percentage of.

• It boosts your metabolism. It takes more energy to digest protein than it does to digest carbs which will boost your metabolism and your body’s fat burning ability!

• It has all the essential amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Protein is used for lean muscles, gorgeous hair, and helps you stay energized all day long!

• It has the most perfect ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These

essential fatty acids are great for skin and hair as well as energy balancing and fat-burning!

How Do I Use It? The best way to use hemp: as a protein powder! I swear by this and use it this way daily!

Super Food #3: Cacao

What Is It? Cacao might sound like a funny word but it’s actually the raw bean that chocolate is made from. Oh, now I have your attention! Cacao has a chocolaty taste that is very different than the processed chocolate that’s sold in stores. Cacao contains theobromine, which speeds up metabolism and boosts energy. Why Is It Awesome?

• It curbs appetite because of its MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidase inhibitors OR MAOIs).

• It boosts serotonin levels in the brain. This is perfect for weight loss because

serotonin can suppress appetite. Three cheers for serotonin!

• It’s rich in antioxidants. In fact, it contains about 25,000 antioxidants in just 1 tablespoon and 7 grams of fiber in just 1 ounce! You might say cacao packs a real punch!

How Do I Use It? Some great ways to eat cacao are to:

• Eat it by itself • Add it to smoothies • Use cacao nibs (chopped up beans) in a bowl and drizzle some honey and agave

nectar and eat it with a spoon. • Use it in its raw bean form – try not to get processed cacao because you lose most

of the nutrients!
