For pianists (junior and senior) the inclusion of a Baroque work is compulsory. Wind-instrument players can choose between a mandatory Baroque or Classic work. (Pianists / Wind instrument players need two present contrasting works from different style periods. Learners are welcome to present jazz, but one of the works must be of classical nature.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARTICIPATIONThe competition is open to all high school music learners and grade 6 and 7 primary school learners.The open category only has a piano section for South African enrolled residents and/or students between the ages of 18-28 on the day of the competition on the 1st September 2021.Participation is in the following sections:• Piccolo division (Gr. 6 & 7)• Junior division (Gr. 8, 9 & 10)• Senior division (Gr. 11 & 12)• NEW open division (18-28 years) for piano only

The minimum standard for the divisions is the following:• Piccolo division - About the standard equivalent to Unisa or ABRSM grade 3 piano and grade 4 wind instruments• Junior division - About the standard equivalent to Unisa or ABRSM grade 4 piano and grade 5 wind instruments.• Senior division - About the standard equivalent to Unisa or ABRSM grade 5 piano and grade 6 wind instruments• Open division - Grade 8 or higher standard

Each participant must perform a program of contrasting works.• Piccolo division - A program of up to 7 minutes.• Junior division - A program of up to 10 minutes.• Senior division - A program of a maximum of 15 minutes.• Open division - A program of up to 30 minutes.

COMPETITION• The competition will take place in two rounds. The First is the DVD submission. At the second round, on the gala evening,
