Build BackgroundHelp children use their knowledge of fi re trucks, fi refi ghters, and fi re equipment. Build interest by asking questions such as the following: ¿Qué ropa usan los bomberos? ¿Qué herramientas o equipos especiales usan? Read the title to the children and talk with them about the cover photo.

Introduce the TextGuide children through the text helping with unfamiliar words so they can read the text successfully. Here are some suggestions:

Page 2: In this book some children are telling what they can see when they visit a fi re station on a class trip. Suggested Language: Vayan a la página 2. ¿Qué ven en la fotografía? Phonemic Awareness and Word WorkProvide practice as needed with words and sounds, using one of the following activities:

• Rhyming Words Have children listen for words that rhyme. Have children raise their hands if the words rhyme, and keep their hands in their laps if the words do not rhyme. Say words from the story paired with another word, for example, botas/gotas; mira/gira; ropa/camisa; camión/canción; tomar/rodar; manguera/agua; bomberos/fl oreros.
