The packets will be available for pick-up at the Elementary School on Monday afternoons ( this will start on Monday, April 6 th ). We will also send the packets via email for any student that is able to print the enrichment/review packets at home. Dear Parents/Guardians (and students!),

We hope that you are all doing well and staying safe during this very difficult time. We miss being in the classroom daily with everyone and hope that soon we will be able to continue your education in our school building. Although we are sure you are enjoying some time off from school, we wanted to send you some lessons that you can continue at home. The sixth-grade team will be offering online activities for those who have access to devices and internet. If you do not have a device or internet, or would simply rather complete paper and pen activities, there will be packets sent home also. The packets will be available for pick-up at the Elementary School on Monday afternoons (this will start on Monday, April 6th). We will also send the packets via email for any student that is able to print the enrichment/review packets at home. All online learning and enrichment/review packets will consist of materials that have already been taught this school year. Continue checking the teacher pages for the most up to date online learning opportunities for your child.

The weekly packets/online learning will consist of the following activities: English Language Arts Mathematics Social Studies Science Related Arts/Specials

Parents and Students,

First of all, I hope that all of you are staying healthy during this time off. I Know that this situation is very tough on all of us. It has been very tough staying home for such a long period of time. I really miss seeing my students and my colleagues. This situation really makes you appreciate our normal way of life.

My family has been doing our best to find new ways to stay busy and enjoy this time off. We have been taking walks and playing outside as much as we can. My 8-year-old has been doing a daily cooking class on Instagram and my 1-year-old son has kept us very busy as well. Apps such as Zoom, Facetime, and Facebook Messenger have allowed us to stay in touch with family and friends.

While we practice social distancing, our hope is that through enrichment and review that our students do not lose the skills that they have developed thus far throughout the school year. We encourage your kids to take some time out each day to practice these skills.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me by email.

[email protected]

Thanks,

Mike Thompson

Dear PAES Families,

The related arts (specials) teachers are developing a continuity of education plan that will be enacted for students on April 6. Please understand that we appreciate your flexibility and understanding, as this is a huge adjustment for everyone.

We have been asked to contact 25 students a week. Because most of us have over 1,100 students, it would be impossible to make contact with everyone. We will be sending supplemental enrichment activities to classroom teachers every week that they will share with you on our behalf. Please check our teacher websites for additional enrichment activities if time and resources permit. We understand each household is different and hope our activities are reasonable and enjoyable for all!

For the first week, April 6-9, please complete the following activities:

Mrs. Green Art: K-3  Lesson 1. Draw your favorite toy! Study and draw the lines, shapes, colors and textures. K-3 Lesson 2. Create your own environmental Art: Find objects in your home that are similar and arrange the objects into color, patterns and shapes to create your own artwork. 4-6 Lesson 1. Animal Hybrid: Combine 2 or more animals to create your own wacky new creature! 4-6 Lesson 2. Look up Andy Goldsworthy’s environmental Art: Arrange your found objects to create environmental art.

Mrs. Howard Art: Grade K- Look for butterflies, draw color and design a new Spring butterfly, Grade 1- Design a new bug, draw, color,or collage. Grade 2- Draw a colorful garden ,it could be flowers or a vegetable garden, create a new garden gnome for your garden out of playdough or found objects. Have someone paint with you. Grade 6- Draw a person in an action pose form 3 different views. Color and add pattern, textures and details. Have fun! Share  your art with someone.

Music Grades K-3: 1. Sing any song (from music class, a movie, a song your family knows, etc.) with a loud voice. Sing it again with a quiet voice. Which way is your favorite?2. Draw or color while you listen to music. Think about how the music makes you feel (happy, sad, mad, etc.) and use colors/pictures to show how you feel while you listen.

Music Grades 4-6: 1. Learn and sing a new song from a movie, TV show or video game. OR Learn and sing a new song that someone in your family teaches you.2. What is YOUR favorite song? Listen to the song and describe it in as much detail as possible. How fast/slow and loud/soft is it? What instruments do you hear? What is it called?

Physical Education Grades K-2: Directions: Find a small ball at your house. If you do not have a ball you can use a rolled up sock, or a rolled up pair of socks and it will work just fine. Find a space where there is enough room for you to toss and catch the ball without breaking anything. If it is nice outside you can go outside and do this. Write down how many times in a row you can do each task. Do each task two or three times and try to beat your score each time.

1. Throw the ball up and catch it with two hands.  2. Throw the ball up and catch it with your right hand.  3. Throw the ball up and catch it with your left hand. 4. Throw the ball up, clap your hands, and catch it with two hands.

Physical Education Grades 3-6: Here is a suggested outline for some things to try at home that don’t need any special equipment and can be done on your own or with a family member,

etc. These are just some examples to get you started, and I will have a more detailed information sheet available on my teacher page if you wish to have more specifics regarding staying physically active.

Monday-1. Walk the dog or walk with a friend/family member for 30 minutes. 2. Ride your bike for 30 minutesTuesday-1.  Do 5 sets of 5 push-ups/10 sit ups for a total of 25 push-ups/50 sit ups. 2. Throw catch with a friend/family member or by yourself against a wallWednesday-1. Jump rope, trying for a total of 10 minutes, including breaks. 2. Go for a short run where you run for 1 min/walk for 1 minute for a total of 15-20 minutesThursday-1. Ride your bike for 30 minutes. 2.  Play outside, doing anything that keeps you movingFriday-1. Throw frisbee with a friend or family member 2. Walk/hike 30 minutesSaturday/Sunday-Nothing formal or structured, just try to get out of the house and stay active.

Library:  1. Arrange 3 groups of items in alphabetical order.  For example, One group of items could be cereal boxes. Pull them out and arrange the cereal boxes in ABC order. Other items could include books (remember to go by the author’s last name), canned items, video games, movie cases, etc. Feel free to write these items down in a list using your best handwriting. Which of your 3 groups had the most items?

Band:  1. If you have your instrument at home, then play away. Choose one exercise and see just how good you can get at it. 2. No instrument, no problem: Brass players buzz a song (happy birthday works well). Woodwind players review fingerings like you are holding your instrument. Drummers tap rhythms using the words we review & be sure to mix them up (Coke, French Fry, Mississippi, Cheeseburger).  All groups can also take a piece of paper and see how long you can hold it against the wall just using your breath.

Chorus:  1. Sing. If you have the chorus music then sing it. If not, choose any song that you want and sing it. For an extra challenge you could try to sing the back-up parts or create an echo part.

Technology: 1. Take a tour of your home and list the electronics you see. 2. Choose one and describe three ways you would improve the next model. 3. Draw a picture of the current model and a picture of your new model. Point out the differences and tell someone in your home how your new one is better.

We ask families to email their related arts teachers if there are any questions pertaining to the assignments through the following email accounts:
