Program graduates can apply these hours and tuition toward their Yoga Thera-pist Certification.

Program Overview

2a. Yoga and Public Health Course (50 hours)Customizing Yoga practices for personal and societal transformation!

This course provides the backbone to the 300hr Teacher Training Program, as it pulls together the in-formation from all of the other 300hr courses. This course explores the various factors that influence health at the macro-level using a public health lens, while at the same time, exploring the inner world of the human being using Yoga models to identify and treat imbalances, including: musculoskeletal ailments, heart disease, respiratory / energetic imbalances, addiction, obesity, relationships etc.

The public health perspective examines why current interventions have been ineffective at curbing the chronic disease epidemic with the majority of Americans dying from heart disease, smoking, cancer, diabetes and obesity related illnesses that can largely be prevented with changes in diet, lifestyle and stress management.

After understanding current disease trends and behavioral risk factors, we seek to remedy these conditions with the myriad of tools and practices that yoga has to offer. In fact, Yoga addresses the underlying causes of chronic conditions and provides a time-tested holistic healing system with the sole purpose of creating a clear, stable, rational mind that will make good choices. Thus Yoga pro-vides the sound methodology that our current public health educators lack to empower the individual with tools to change and sustain positive health behaviors.

Non-contact hours include the final project where each student will choose one specific group or a specific client to develop, implement and evaluate a 6-week Yoga program.

ScheduleClass meets one Friday night per month from 6:00-9:30pm for 10 months. This course begins every March. Please check the website for future dates and details.

2b. Sequencing Course (55 hours)Learn to create safe, appropriate, interesting and life-changing Yoga practices for students of all lev-els in a group class setting!

Trainees will learn how to teach students of different levels together in one class, skillfully teaching breath-centered asana, sequencing around a key pose, leading meditation and pranayama practic-es to create specific effects and integrating the subtle aspects of Yoga into their teachings, such as breathwork, philosophy, mantra, guided meditation and sound therapy. Trainees will learn how to craft sequences for specific health conditions in the Yoga + Public Health Course and will learn how to apply them to the group class setting in the Sequencing Course.

Trainees will spend 10 hours in our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program, presenting sequencing methodology as well as alignment and adaptations of asana and pranayama practice. In addition, trainees will observe and analyze one group class per month for 8 months. Students will work with numerous Be The Change Yoga staff members, gaining insight into differing approaches and working with various class levels.

2c. Yoga Sutras Course (30 hours)Understanding the scope of Yoga philosophy to improve every aspect of life!

This program places a strong emphasis on transpersonal psychology and the Yoga Sutras; which is the authoritative text on Yoga. The Yoga Sutras outline a comprehensive 8-limb path for mental clar-ity and a basis for living a happy, healthy and balanced life. This is the essence of Yoga. Out of 195 sutras, only three focus on asana (physical postures) and the remaining teachings are often under-emphasized. The entirety of these teachings is essential to practice Yoga off the mat and create a life of sustained joy.

Such teachings will help you understand yourself, your patterns (samskaras) and how they serve you; as well as provide tools to improve unfulfilling habits. Tools such as bhavana (visualizing the life of your dreams), yamas (relationship guidelines), niyama (lifestyle guidelines), pratyahara (controlling the senses), dharana, dhyana (meditation) and samadhi (flow) are invaluable for creating a life of happiness and purpose.

ScheduleClass meets for five Saturday’s per year from 12:30-6:30pm. There are two sessions on Chapter 1 and two sessions on Chapter 2. Students can either start with Chapter 1 or 2 but need to complete both before going on to the one session for Chapters 3/4. Please check the website for future dates and details.

When the trainee feels ready to begin working with a mentor, he / she will contact [email protected] to find the right match. We recommend starting the Mentorship Portion between March – June.

3. Positive Psychology Classes (24 hours)The Science of Human Flourishing!

The field of positive psychology explores the science of happiness, providing practices to cultivate more sustained joy and increase human flourishing … essentially Yoga of the 21st century backed by evidence-based research. Learn about this medium that has been revitalized to be the bridge between the ivory tower of the science based psychological world and the streets where the com-mon man exists. In this course you will personally experience the transformation that comes with increasing your positivity ratio as you practice wellness and happiness boosting exercises as well as develop reflection activities. These practices will then be put in the framework of coaching as the last portion of this course is focused on how to improve your interactions in all relationships and how to become a better coach, teacher, partner, boss and instructor to those who are in your life.

5. Mentorship (15 hours)Develop a personal relationship with a teacher and learn to work one-on-one with students!

Once trainees have advanced through Module 1 and Module 2 Courses, they will be eligible to par-ticipate in the Mentorship module. We recommend starting this in September / October. To register for this moduel and be placed with a mentor, please email [email protected]. Mentors are trainees enrolled in our Yoga Therapist Training.

In this module, trainees will learn to work one-on-one with a mentor. Trainees will discuss the various models and concepts of Yoga, as it pertains to their life. The aim is for the student and teacher to build a relationship where the teacher can prescribe customized practices for the student to improve his / her life off the mat. In effect, the student will personally understand time-tested Yoga practices to help the create positive change in every aspect of life: relationships, lifestyle, career, body, mind, breath and spirit. The teacher becomes a reference point, overseeing the student’s progress and provides guidance to fine-tune the student’s practices. As human beings, we tend to lean towards our imbalances and it takes time to transform our behaviors; which is why having an accessible teacher to guide us in this process is invaluable. The goal of Yoga is to create discernment (viveka) so, we as human beings, can make choices that lead to joy rather than suffering.

ScheduleStudents will meet once a month with their mentor for a total of 10 one hour sessions with the aim of integrating the teachings of Yoga into the student’s life. The student will meet with their mentor twice a month for the first three months, then once a month for the last four months.

The topic for each meeting is outlined in advance. Four months into the program, the student will take on his / her own student and will take on the role of the teacher for 5 sessions.

Goals

Our goal in this course is to help you understand the human experience through the lens of Yoga, while including additional holistic health models to offer a wider perspective, such as Spiritual Psy-chology, Positive Psychology and Ayurveda. These tools will enable you to work with clients on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual.

By combining the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras, the breath-centered physical practice of asana, (rang-ing from Yoga Therapy to advanced asanas) and numerous modalities of spiritual psychology; you will receive a plethora of tools to integrate into your life and teachings. By doing the work on yourself, you will be able to understand your students more clearly and thus help them clarify their values and create practices to improve happiness and wellbeing in all aspects of their lives.

Registration

300-hour course participants receive pre-registration pricing for all 300-hour courses. We ask that students register for all courses at least 3 days in advance to ensure that we have enough students to run each course or weekend intensive.

Cancellation of Classes

The school reserves the right to cancel a starting class if the number of trainees enrolling is insuffi-cient. If we do not have at least 8 students pre-registered for a weekend intensive, we will cancel the intensive for that weekend and reschedule for another date. The student will receive a full refund of all money paid.

Refund Policy

Students will receive a full refund if they withdraw from the course or weekend intensive at least 3 days before the scheduled event. We will not offer refunds for any cancellations made within 3 days of the scheduled course because the number of pre-registered participants determines our ability to run each course. If a student misses a weekend intensive due to an illness, we can apply the funds toward a future weekend intensive. There are no refunds for any courses or workshops once the classes have commenced.

Class Make-Up’s

There are a few options for class make up’s. Option 1. Schedule a make-up session with Katie for the Yoga Therapy course for $50 an hour or $35 an hour for a group of 2 or more. Option 2.
