$280 went to Daystar for Medically Fragile Children this past weekend. Rochester Area Right to Life will be this weekend ’s parish sharing recipient.
Every summer we make a donation to the Hispanic Migrant Ministry located in Brockport. Next weekend's parish sharing will go to that cause. The ministry is housed in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the center of Brockport. A mass in Spanish is celebrated there on Sunday afternoon. Martin Farms and Sodoma Farms (in the Brockport area) have camps for the migrant workers who supply so much of the labor for local food production. The work also includes processing food after harvest (cabbage, for example). This Brockport ministry covers the west side of the diocese. With regard to the east side, we have helped migrants through donations to La Casa in Sodus.
We Welcome You to St. Charles Borromeo Parish
Thank you for joining us. We are glad you have chosen to worship at St. Charles this weekend. Are you interested in becoming a member of the parish? If you need more information or would like to register, please call Mary Eggleston at 663-3230 x107 or contact her by e-mail at [email protected].

A New Tradition! Flag Raising Ceremony
This Weekend, May 29 at 10 AM Please join us when we will inaugurate a new tradition at the parish with a formal raising of the American flag in observance of Memorial Day. This is a tradition inherited from Holy Name of Jesus which used flags from the funerals of loved ones who served in the Armed Forces. For this first observance, we will use a new flag. In the future, we will use donated flags which will be flown for approximately 6 months (Memorial Day/Veterans Day) and then returned to the donors. The ceremony will take place at the flagpole on Maiden Lane and will consist of raising then lowering the flag to half staff, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the playing of Taps.

Digestion “Ups & Downs”
- Nancy Cody
E very system in our body has its role in our
good health. The digestive system, which is
basically one long tube from mouth to anus, is a
major part of sustaining us. Other organs that are
connected and have important roles include the
liver, gall bladder and pancreas, not to mention
specific parts of the brain as the “feedback” system.
Formally called the “gastrointestinal system”, or GI
system, its job is to take nutrition and fluid in, break
it down to its simplest particles that then fit through
the porous tube of the GI tract into the blood
system for transport to where it’s needed.
Interestingly, like any engineered system, part of the
trick is to get the “product” through to the next step
in a timely manner so as to not interfere with the
ongoing process.
The GI tract is constantly moving, called
“motility”, so things don’t get backed up. When the
motility slows or stops, for whatever reason, the
fluid or chopped food stuck in it begins to cause
trouble, and the brain’s order is to GET RID of IT!
Vomiting or diarrhea is the way to do so. We’ve all
experienced these symptoms, caused by many
things from viruses to surgery. The best way to
help keep things moving is to drink plenty of fluids
and eat foods high in fiber, never overeating as this
adds stress to the system. Long-term illnesses of the
system can cause a disruption in the sensitive
“valve” systems to maintain separation between the
elements of process. Heartburn? Caused by many
reasons, usually is the pressure valve between the
stomach and bottom of the esophagus getting weak
and accidentally allowing the acid to splash up the
esophagus, which has no protection against it. How
it gets weaker is often our choices.
Bottom line to feeling energetic, sleeping well,
and avoiding heartburn, ulcers, diarrhea, nausea,
constipation, is to drink fluids throughout the day
and choosing vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts
and beans as often as possible. Avoid smoking,
large quantities of alcohol, and colas (containing
acids) which breakdown the lining and pressure
valve systems. The good thing, you’re probably
already doing most of this advice! Specific issues
with the GI tract can be related to these basics!
Enjoy a great meal!
HAPPY SPRING!

This year’s leaders were: Kristin & Katrianna Belknap, Danielle Bordeau, Gavin Caccavale-Brown, Barb Gerardi, Michelle Giordano, Betty King, Jill Kinsella and the Youth Group, Sue LeBerth, Cecelia Lester, Meredith Maillet, Heidi & Ken Messmer, Barb Morreale, Missy Plankenhorn, Lisa Smith, and Kathy Stewart.

Can you help?
It's that time of year again.....Summer Camp begins on
July 11 at 9:00 am! We are especially grateful to the
volunteers who help with parking during arrival (8:30-
9:00am) and dismissal (11:30-noon) when it can be es-
pecially hectic. Our goal is to keep everyone safe dur-
ing these busy, high traffic times. This year we are in
need of several more volunteers for the
two weeks (Mon-Fri). If you can help us
