DO NOT OPERATE THIS UNIT WITHOUTTHE OUTER CAGE ATTACHED. USINGTHE UNIT WITHOUT THE OUTER CAGEMAY INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY.

The clear tube inside the unit is madefrom quartz glass and care should betaken during installation andmaintenance. We recommend the useof eye protection and suitable gloves.

The EasyClear 3000 is fitted with a 5WUVC lamp. Exposure to Ultra Violet(UV) radiation can be dangerous andcause damage to eyes and skin. Underno circumstances should any attemptbe made to gain access to the lampwhen the unit is switched on. Whenswitched on, the lamp can be checkedfor operation by looking for a bluishglow from the ball joint outlet (Fig 1-A). Please note that this may onlybecome visible in low light conditions.

From 1st January 2005 installing thisproduct in the garden is classed as'notifiable' in the revised BuildingRegulations for England and Wales. The Regulations now require you totell your local authority buildingcontrol department that you intend toinstall this product before installation.Your local authority will let you knowhow you can get your installationapproved.

To help ensure your EasyClear’s longlife and to prevent damage, it is fittedwith automatic thermal OverloadProtection. This switches the pump orUV lamp off if either overheats. If this

occurs, switch off the power at themains supply to the unit. If it is thepump that has activated the OverloadProtection, check for the cause (it isusually debris blocking the inlet of thepump or obstructing the impeller).Remove the obstruction and wait 15minutes for the unit to cool down and. Then switch it on again.

If it is the UV lamp that is activatingthe Overload Protection (pump is stillrunning but UV lamp keeps going outafter running for a short time), pleasecontact Hozelock Consumer ServicesHelpline on +44 (0)121 313 1122.

NOTE: YOU MUST SWITCH OFF THEMAINS SUPPLY BEFORE THE UNIT WILLRESET.

Keep the filter working 24 hours a day.Ideally it should run all year round, butat least throughout the fish-feedingseason, (i.e. until the watertemperature falls below 10°C and thefish stop feeding). In winter, operatingthe unit will maintain a basic level ofuseful bacteria in the Biological Filter, and will help prevent the pond icingover. However, the unit must not beallowed to freeze. If you switch theunit off for winter, wash the unitthoroughly before resuming filtrationin the spring (see ‘Winter Storage’).Never feed your fish when the unit isnot in use.

• ALWAYS UNPLUG OR DISCONNECTALL APPLIANCES IN THE POND FROMTHE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY BEFOREPUTTING YOUR HANDS IN THE WATERWHILST EQUIPMENT IS BEINGINSTALLED, REPAIRED, MAINTAINED ORHANDLED.

• Do not use the supply cable to lift theunit, as this may cause damage. Werecommend fitting a lifting cord to thehook feature on the base, when thefilter is installed in deep water. (Fig 1-H).

• Check that the voltage marked onthe unit corresponds to the mainssupply.

• A 10mA OR 30mA RESIDUALCURRENT DEVICE (RCD) MUST BEFITTED TO THE MAINS SUPPLY.

• The pump is supplied with 10m of 3core electric cable which ispermanently connected and sealed tothe pump. The supply cable cannot bereplaced. If the cable is damaged, theunit should be discarded. This productis designed to be permanently wired tothe mains supply in a dry weatherproofenclosure through a Double-PoleSwitched Fused Spur - (Disconnector) toBS 3676, with a minimum contactseparation of 3mm in each Pole &Fitted with a 3 or 5 Amp fuse.

• The installation must conform to thenational and local wiring regulationswhich could include the use of plasticor metal conduit to protect the cable.

• THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHEDAND IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THECONNECTIONS ARE MADE USING THEFOLLOWING CODE;

The BROWN lead should be connectedto the LIVE terminal which may bemarked with an 'L' or coloured brownor red. The BLUE lead should beconnected to the NEUTRAL terminalwhich may be marked with an 'N' or

coloured blue or black. TheGREEN/YELLOW lead should beconnected to the EARTH terminalwhich may be marked with an 'E' orcoloured green or green/yellow.

• If an extension cable is required, thisshould be connected to the end of theunit cable using a weatherproofconnector. The joint must be positionedin a suitable weatherproof housing. The extension cable should be of 3 core0.75mm2 Polychloroprene rubberinsulated cable (ref: HO5 RN-F) andpermanently wired to the mains supplywith a 3 or 5 Amp fuse.

• The unit cable (and extension cable)should be positioned and adequatelyprotected against damage especiallywhere contact with gardeningequipment (lawn mowers, forks etc.)children and domestic animals mayoccur.

• CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIANOR LOCAL AUTHORITY IF IN ANYDOUBT ABOUT WIRING TO THE MAINSSUPPLY.

Position - Construct a solid and levelplatform on which to place theEasyClear™. The platform should begreater than 300 mm (12") below thewater level. For depths between300mm and 600mm use the fountainstem extension segments (Fig 1-F),which simply screw together, to allowthe fountain to be above the waterlevel. For general installation see Fig 4A/B. When using the EasyClear for awaterfall the entire unit should besubmersed.

Connection - Place the unit next to thepond and route the cable back to themains supply. Ensure that you allow for

enough cable for positioning theproduct in the desired location in thepond.

The UVC will automatically switch ononce the unit has been connected tothe electricity supply.

The UVC lamp can be checked foroperation by looking for a bluish glowfrom ball joint outlet (Fig 1-A). Pleasenote that this may only become visiblein low light conditions.

See Maintenance section for Lampreplacement.

The Hozelock Cyprio EasyClear™ hasbeen designed to allow fast and easymaintenance. As with all pond

equipment, occasionally it will becomenecessary to clean or replace parts.Refer to the safety sections beforeattempting any maintenance.

Fountain Head (Fig 1-I)Follow the below procedure if thefountain head is blocked:

1 - Place a coin or similar in the slotand gently lever off the fountain head.

2 - Rinse in clean water andreassemble.

FoamFollow the below procedure if flowappears reduced:

1 - Release the Foam Cover by pushingthe two buttons (Fig 5-M) and lift thecover (Fig 6-N).

2 - Remove the Foam (Fig 7-O). Note:-If the unit is out of the pond for morethen 20 minutes the biological filteraction may stop working.

3 - The Foam Cover and Base shouldalso be rinsed.

4 – It may also be necessary to cleanout the biomedia and stones (Fig 7-P) ifthese have become clogged.

5 - Reassemble the Filter.

Quartz Tube Follow the below procedure if yourpond remains green:

1 - Remove the bayonet locking screw(Fig 8-Q), twist and lift the bayonettube (Fig 8-R).

2 - Clean the Quartz Tube. Take extracare when handling the Quartz tube. Inhard water areas, the quartz tube maybecome covered in limescale, whichwill reduce efficiency. Clean the tubewith a soft cloth and a gentle de-scaler(such as vinegar and water), rinse inwater before refitting.

restart (Fig 8-S).

Warning! Ensure that the quartz tubeis not damaged before refitting.

Lamp ReplacementFollow the below procedure if thelamp needs replacing or does notilluminate:

Change the lamp at the start of thenew season. Even though the lamp stillglows it may not be giving out anyuseful UV radiation. How well theEasyClear™ performs is related to thestrength of the UV radiation produced. This will slowly decline from the dayyour lamp is switched on. The UVClamp has an effective life of 12 months. You need to change the lamp whenthere is a significant reduction in waterclarity. Make sure this is due to anexpired lamp and not a badlymaintained filter or a dirty/limescaledquartz sleeve. Both can greatly reduceUV transmission into the water.

1 - Remove the bayonet locking screw(Fig 8-Q), twist and lift the bayonettube (Fig 8-R).

2 - Remove the quartz tube, rotatingthe plastic moulding anticlockwise andlifting up and away (Fig 9-T).

3 - With the lamp now accessible pull itout of the holder (Fig 9-U) and push ina new lamp.

4 - Reassemble the bayonet tube andrestart (Fig 8-S).

Warning! Ensure that the quartz tubeis assembled correctly so that itprovides a completely watertight seal.

Check the condition of the two o-ringson the Quartz Tube Assembly (Fig 11-3). If these are damaged in any way oryou can not guarantee a water tightseal, contact Hozelock ConsumerServices.

Biological FilterNormally, there is no need to removethe biomedia as any cleaning may killthe colonies of bacteria that make toxicwaste harmless.

1 - Remove the foam.

2 - The bag of Kaldnes Biomedia (Fig 7-P) can be removed for cleaning.

3 - Wash in pond water.

4 - Reassemble the filter and restart.

Rotor Cleaning/ReplacementFollow the below procedure if the nowater is being pumped or flow isreduced:

1 - Release the Foam Cover by pushingthe two buttons (Fig 5-M) and lift thecover (Fig 6-N).

2 - Remove the foam (Fig 7-O),biomedia (Fig 7-P) and stone bag.

3 – Turn the unit over and remove the4 fixing screws (Fig 10-V) and lift thebase clear.

4- Remove the 2 fixing screws (Fig 10-W) and lift the Pump Assembly clear.

5 - Twist the Pump Chamber anti-clockwise (Fig 10-X) and lift clear. Therotor can now be pulled out forcleaning or replacement ( Fig 10-Y).Important! Take extra care so as tonot drop any of the small components.See Fig 10A for assembly of the rotor.

6 - Reassemble the pump and 2 offfixing screws (Fig 10-W).

7 - Reroute the cable (Fig 10-Z).

8 - Reassemble the filter, and restart.

A quick daily check should be carriedout to ensure that the pump isperforming satisfactorily.

Once a week- Remove the outer casingand Fountain Head in accordance with

All Year Pump Care

the general maintenance notes.Depending on pond water conditions, cleaning may be required morefrequently.

Once a year- Completely disassemblethe unit including the Rotor Assemblyas described in the generalmaintenance notes, and wash allcomponents in clean, freshwater.Replace worn or broken parts.
