Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst

for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

July 2017 TRIPLETTER

The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after

their kind; and God saw that it was good. - Genesis 1:12

A BE HAPPY ATTITUDE

The Sermon on the Mountain can be found in the Gospel of Matthew. Jesus is

teaching the crowds about the God who sent Him to show the side of love and compassion

which was often lost in the legalism of the religion of His day. He was showing a way to

draw near to the God who was drawing near to them. I love the way He started His discourse

with the people. We know these teachings as the Beatitudes. Jesus starts off each sentence

with “Blessed are…” Robert Shuler wrote a book about these teachings called “The Be

(Happy) Attitudes”.

It is the desire of God for His people to be happy. Why is happiness so elusive? I

remember an old country song titled “Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places” which

reminds me of people trying to find happiness in all the wrong places. Name it and someone

has tried to find happiness in it, fame, money, career, friends, recreational drugs, alcohol etc.

Often these things promise and for a short time create happiness. Or do they? What really

happens is that they just mask pain and sorrow for a while. It is like kudzu, you think you

have gotten rid of it, but dog-gone it, it sprouts up somewhere else.

It all comes down to where you are grounded. If you are grounded in this world expect

hurricanes and tornadoes to come along and uproot your life. It is not if they come, for

sooner or later they will be on your door step. Christ offers a place to be grounded. Christ

offers a plan to deal with storms of life. Christ offers a way to find real happiness.

Robert Shuler takes all eight saying of Jesus and points out what they mean in this day

and age. The eighth is “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for

theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” The interpretation is “I can choose to be happy – anyway!”

We can’t always change the circumstances around us, but we can always change the way we

react to them.

Choosing to give praise to God is one of the

greatest ways to happiness. Praising God for who

is He was, is and always will be grants security in

even the worst situation. Jesus lived out these

beatitudes and we can also. May lasting

happiness come your way through Jesus and may

you have faith to reach out and grab it, hold on to

it and live it. — Rev. Dr. Rick Auten

Blessed are the pure in heart,

for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called children of

God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted

because of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say

all kinds of evil against you because of me.

Back to School bash provides school supplies, shoes, clothes,

books and a fun day of free food, bounce houses and games for

Bible Stick Ministry—The Topical Sunday

School Class of Triplett is partnering with Fair View UMC in this outreach ministry. An organization known as “Faith Comes By Hearing” raises money to provide MP3 players to service men and women who request them. Each player has the entire New Testament and selected Psalms downloaded on it. They are designed to have no lights; so military personnel can even wear them into combat. Each Bible Stick is $25. Last day to donate will be Sunday July 2nd. Please make checks out to Triplett UMC. In the memo section, please write “Bible Stick Ministry.”

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

If you would like information about where your

talents can be partnered with Triplett UMC’s
