AN OPEN LETTER
MAY 2019 Dear Parents / Guardians,
1. Warm greetings from Queenstown Primary School. We hope that this letter finds you well.
Semester 1 will soon draw to a close and I hope that these few months have been a positive learning
journey for your child/ward.
In Celebration…
International Friendship Day (IFD)
2. IFD was commemorated on 12 April this year and our Queenstown Parent Support Group
(QtPSG) put together an IFD exhibition at the School Hall. At the exhibition, the students visited the
interactive booths which were set up to represent different countries’ history, culture and tradition.
3. We are grateful for the strong support and invaluable contributions from our QtPSG. Their
efforts have not only enabled our students to learn more about ASEAN and other countries, the IFD
exhibition was also extended to students from the Rainbow Centre. Parents, thank you for making a
difference for students in QtPS and the Rainbow Centre! You are awesome!

curriculum, any absence from school examinations must be supported by a medical certificate.
Please note that the school will not administer make-up examinations for students who are absent for
written examinations. Should your child/ward be unable to take the assessment due to valid reasons,
please contact and inform your child’s/ward’s teacher(s).
6. Please note that during the examination, students are not to have in their possession any
unauthorised electronic, communication, entertainment or gaming devices capable of capturing,
storing, displaying and/or transmitting visual, audio or verbal information within the
examination premises (e.g. examination room / hall, quarantine room, waiting room, etc). Examples
of unauthorised devices include, but are not limited to, mobile phones, cameras, tablets, power banks,
wired and wireless ear-pieces/ earphones, smart wrist watches, fitness trackers, smart glasses, and pens
with image capturing capabilities. Thus, we strongly encourage our students not to bring these devices
during the examinations.
7. Please also ensure that your child/ward continues to attend school after the SA1
examinations, as lessons will continue after the examinations. Teachers will be going through the
questions in the examination papers, and will provide feedback so that your child/ward knows what
went wrong and how to go about getting it right. It is important that your child/ward does not miss
lessons after the examinations because this is when feedback is provided to help your child/ward
learn and improve. Family holiday plans should only be planned during the official school holiday
period. We seek your kind cooperation in this matter.
e-Learning Day cum Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) / Parent-Teacher-Child Conference
(PTCC) Session
8. The school will be conducting the PTM for parents with children in P1, P4, P5 and P6, as well
as the PTCC for parents with children in P2 and P3 on 30 May 2019 from 7.45 am to 5 pm. All parents
will be required to book their timeslots online via the MCOnline platform. All slots will be allocated
on a first-come-first served basis, subject to availability. The MCOnline booking system will be in
operation from 13 May till 24 May. Parents who do not have access to the system will be given
hardcopies to indicate their preferred slots on 13 May.
9. Thursday, 30 May 2019 is also the school’s e-Learning Day. On this day, all P1, P4, P5 and
P6 students do not need to report to school. These students will be able to access the online resources
to learn and do the work that has been assigned. This e-learning exercise is also to ensure the school's
readiness for Home-Based Learning (HBL) in the event of an emergency.
10. For families who do not have computers and/or Internet access, your child/ward may access
the e-learning in school. Our Computer Laboratories will be opened that day from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm.
Consent forms will be given to students who would like to access the e-learning in school. The e-
learning instructions and information will be disseminated to all students through their respective
Form Teachers nearer to the date.
Eat with your Family Day (EWYFD)
11. Launched in 2003 by the Centre for Fathering (CFF), EWYFD seeks to encourage
organisations to allow employees to leave work early to enjoy a meal with their children and families.
This simple act of eating with the family has far-reaching positive effects in building strong and happy
homes. In support of this initiative, we will be closing our school General Office at 5.30 pm on 31
May, so as to allow our staff to enjoy their dinner with their families.

Concluding Remarks…
You Can
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win, but think you can’t
It’s almost a cinch, you won’t!
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.
For out in the world you’ll find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later the one who wins
Is the one who thinks he can!”
By Walter D. Wintle
18. Indeed, our performance begins within us. Our mind possesses enormous power and if we
want to succeed at anything, we need to have the right mindset. How we see and respond to the events
of life and work is shaped by our mindset. With the SA1 just round the corner, let us encourage our
children to adopt a growth mindset, to be positive thinkers who see potential and who turn obstacles
into opportunities.
19. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all mothers “A Happy Mother’s Day”! Thank
you and have a wonderful month ahead!
Best regards,
Ms Pearly Ng
Principal

International Friendship Day(IFD)
If a picture speaks a thousand words, thewindfall of pictures from InternationalFriendship Day at QtPS would have stories forgenerations to come. Parent Volunteers (PVs)of different nationalities came together on 12th
April to put up a spectacular IFD CulturalExhibition for the students. All students weregiven the opportunity to immerse at thevarious activities set up by different countryrepresentatives. Students experienced the richculture and had fun with hands-on activitiesand games organised by PVs from eachcountry.
Family Movie NightAnother sold out event organised by QtPSG on the evening of 12th April – the annual Family Movie Night. This is a yearly affair enabling family members and friends to bond over a movie in the school hall. With movie theatre-like setting, a couple of mats brought from homes, it was truly a homely setting. Throw in the hot dogs, pop corns, a variety of snacks and drinks, and you have a full-fledge party! The committee set up stalls selling these tidbits, complete with our mascot for the night – the walking, talking, serving hot dog!
QtPSGwould like to
wish all Mothers, “Happy
Mother’s Day!”
