Pr oduct Descr iptionProSoft protocol conversionmodules install in any slot in a

local or extended rack (or aremote rack in the case of the

3100 module). The productscapabilities are enabled and

controlled with simple ladder logicand data table initialization. Eachproduct is shipped with a Users

Manual detailing the installationand operation of the module. A

sample ladder program is providedon disk in order to ease

implementation, or is available offour ftp server.

M CM M odbus Communication ModuleProduct OverviewThe 3100-MCM and the 3150-MCM Modbus

Communication Modules are single slot solutions for theA-B 1771 and 1746 platforms. These modules providehighly configurable Modbus Master and Slave capabilities

to Allen-Bradley PLC and SLC applications. By providingconfigurable access to both ports, these products provide

    previously unavailable functionality and versatility.

    Simple to Use

All module setup and operating control is performed over thebackplane through simple ladder logic and data table

configuration. The only software required is the standardladder programming package.

Port ConfigurationThe two Modbus ports are configured independently,

allowing the module to operate in any one of the followingconfigurations:

Mode Port 1 Port 2Master/Master Master MasterMaster/Slave Master Slave

    Slave/Slave Slave Slave

Once configured, the module will perform all protocol

related functions on a stand alone basis.

capabilities: Up to 100 entries in the command list, each fully configurable for

function, slave address, register to/from addressing and word/bitcount (Master port)

Continuous polling of command list (Master port) Support for the storage and transfer of up to 4000 registers to/from

the PLC Event driven bit/register write commands (Master port) Communication error codes returned to ladder logic

The following Modbus features have been implemented in both

configurations: RTU mode (binary) with CRC-16

ASCII mode with LRC error checking Broadcast commands 125 word reads and writes Floating Point data movement supported Function Codes Supported:

Or der ing Infor mationModulesTo order a PLC/SLC Protocol Conversion product, simplycombine the platform module with the protocol acronym.

Following are some examples for the more commonlyavailable products:

Modules for 1771 Platform3100-MCM Modbus Master/Slave Modules3100-EMC Emerson FX Master

    Modules for 1746 Platform (5/02 Min)3150-MCM Modbus Master/Slave Modules3150-MTS MTS Level Master

Shipped with each unit is a module, an Operations Manual, and example ladder logic on disk. To place an order or toget additional information, please contact your local ProSofTechnology or A-B Distributor directly.

AccessoriesProSoft Technology, Inc. has developed several terminationplugs for the 3100 and 3150 modules when RS-422/RS-485 terminations must be made. These screw terminalunits eliminate the need to solder or crimp connections tothe modules.

Application GuideThe 3100/3150-MCM products are frequently used in twogeneral applications:

    SCADA Slave

    Foreign Device Interface MasterSCADA Slave

In this application the MCM module is installed in aremotely located PLC/SLC rack and is connected to a

SCADA host via a modem (lease line, radio, satellite, etc.)network. The SCADA host is normally configured to readdata on a polled basis, and to write as commanded by the

    operator.

Foreign Device Interface MasterMany industrial devices available today have implemented

communications using the Modbus protocol. With thesecommunication interfaces, manufacturers are making a

great deal of data available which can enhance theunderstanding of the process, or which can simply allow the

system to be controlled better. The 3100/3150-MCMproduct, when configured as a Master, is able to read andwrite to these devices, allowing the PLC/SLC ladder

program direct access to the device's data.

ProSoft Technology maintains a growing list ofprotocol solutions and accompanying data

sheets for the PLC and SLC productplatforms. A listing of the devices which we

know to be Modbus compatible and/orhave been tested, is available on our website
