The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has revised its COVID‐related guidelines which were implemented by all parishes this past week (June 15th).

RETURNING TO MASS. Beginning this weekend, Archbishop Gomez has li ed the dispensa on from the obliga on to a end Mass. All Catholics are encouraged to return to Sunday Mass.

LIVESTREAM AVAILABLE If you are feeling unwell, have underlying health condi ons or have significant fears of becoming ill, you are dispensed from par cipa ng at Mass in‐person. REVISED ARCHDIOCESAN GUIDELINES

Article from Fr. Paul Joseph Spellman "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad!" Those words resonate with me, especially this weekend, because this is the first weekend in fifteen months that we have been able to come to Mass..... in the church.... without registering in advance... and without wearing face coverings! During this pandemic many people have died, and many have lost loved ones. Many have be-come seriously ill, and many caregivers have put their own health at risk to care for those who were suffering. Yet, through our social distanc-ing, our quarantining in our homes, our use of face masks, and our prayers and support of one another, we seem to have turned the corner on this pandemic. So, it's good to see everyone's smiling faces again! Earlier this week Father Paul left for his Sabbatical, a time of prayer, reflection, study, and relaxation. Priests are technically eligible for a Sabbatical every seven years, but there is a catch: They have to find priests who will handle things for the entire time that they are gone! And that is not as easy as it sounds. For-tunately, Father Alberto and I each have at least twenty years in service as priests, and we know how to handle the various situations that may arise. Also, we have an experienced and dedicat-ed Administrative Staff and Ministerial Staff who are quite familiar with how things work here at St. Margaret Mary. And we have many Lay Ministers and Lay Leaders who donate their Time, Talent, and Treasure to keeping our parish moving along, following the Light of Christ! So, given the many blessings that we have here in the parish, this turned out to be the perfect time for Father Paul to take his Sabbatical. After I was ordained for fifteen years, I was finally able to take a Sabbatical. It was in the Fall of 2016, and I had the opportunity to study for a semester at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley. In the Fall of 1998 I spent a semester at the Jesuit School of Theology outside Boston, and, based on that experience, I hoped that someday I would be able to spend a semester at the JST in Berkeley. And, I finally did it! Being on Sabbatical means that you can attend as many classes as you want, with no tests to take, no papers to write, and no grades to worry about. I

was a "sponge" simply soaking up knowledge, and being able to take time for prayer and reflec-tion as I continued to discern God's Will in my life. So when Father Paul mentioned that he was considering taking a Sabbatical, my response was, "Go For It!" I've been down that road, and it is a great journey! While Father Paul is away, we will begin the planning process for our parish's 85th anniver-sary. Who would have imagined, back in 1937, the way that the Holy Spirit guided our parish on our Journey of Faith? Who can even guess as to how many people have prayed in our church? Or, how many have attended Mass and received the Sacraments? And, how many have had their lives turned upside down by the Power of the Holy Spirit? Of course, no one has the exact answer to those questions. But it is easy to see how the Light of Christ has guided our community of faith! Over the next few months we will be forming committees to plan the year-long celebrations, and we will be looking at ways of involving everyone in the planning and devel-opment of our Anniversary events. The number 85 may not seem like a significant number to cel-ebrate, but don't you think that after all we have been through over the past fifteen months, that a big celebration is called for? Be sure and watch the bulletin for updates and more information! During these next few months, let us continue to pray for all who have been affected by this pandemic, and especially for those in Developing Countries who have not yet reaped the benefits of the vaccines. And, let us continue to pray for our Pastor, Father Paul, that his Sabbatical is restful, peace-filled, and full of the Power of the Holy Spirit! May the Lord continue to bless us always, and in all ways, Father Paul Joseph

Mensaje del Padre Paul Joseph Spellman

"Este es el día que hizo el Señor. ¡Gocémoslo y alegrémonos!"

Esas palabras me resuenan, especialmente este fin de semana, ¡porque este es el primer fin de semana en quince meses que podemos venir a Misa…en la Iglesia...sin registrarnos con anticipa-ción... y sin llevar revestimientos faciales! Duran-te esta pandemia, muchas personas han muerto y muchas han perdido a sus seres queridos. Muchos se han enfermado gravemente y muchos cuidado-res han puesto en riesgo su propia salud para cuidar a los que sufren. Sin embargo, a través de nuestro distanciamiento social, nuestra cuarentena en nuestros hogares, el uso de máscaras faciales y nuestras oraciones y apoyo mutuo, parece que le hemos dado la vuelta a la esquina de esta pande-mia. Entonces, ¡es bueno ver las caras sonrientes de todos nuevamente!

A principios de esta semana, el Padre Paul partió para su tiempo Sabático, un tiempo de oración, reflexión, estudio y relajación. Los sacer-dotes son técnicamente elegibles para un tiempo sabático cada siete años, pero hay una trampa: ¡tienen que encontrar sacerdotes que se encarguen de las cosas durante todo el tiempo que estén fuera! Y eso no es tan fácil como parece. Afortu-nadamente, el padre Alberto y yo tenemos al menos veinte años de servicio como sacerdotes y sabemos cómo manejar las diversas situaciones que pueden surgir. Además, contamos con un per-sonal administrativo y un personal ministerial con experiencia y dedicación que están bastante fami-liarizados cómo funcionan las cosas aquí en Santa. Margarita María. ¡Y tenemos muchos ministros laicos y líderes laicos que donan su tiempo, talento y tesoro para mantener nuestra parroquia en movimiento, siguiendo la Luz de Cristo! Entonces, dadas las muchas bendiciones que tenemos aquí en la parroquia, este resultó ser el momento perfecto para que el Padre Paul toma-ra su tiempo Sabático.

Después de ser ordenado durante quince años, finalmente pude tomar un tiempo sabático. Fue en el otoño de 2016 y tuve la oportunidad de estudiar un semestre en la Escuela Jesuita de Teología en Berkeley. En el otoño de 1998 pasé un semestre en la Escuela Jesuita de Teología en las afueras de Boston y, basándome en esa experiencia, esperaba

que algún día pudiera pasar un semestre en el JST en Berkeley. ¡Y finalmente lo logré! Estar en tiempo Sabático significa que puede asistir a tantas clases como desee, sin exámenes que tomar, sin papeles que escribir y sin calificaciones de que preocuparse. Yo era una "esponja" simple-mente absorbiendo conocimiento y pudiendo tomar tiempo para la oración y la reflexión mien-tras continuaba discerniendo la Voluntad de Dios en mi vida. Entonces, cuando el padre Paul mencionó que estaba considerando tomar un tiem-po sabático, mi respuesta fue: "¡Adelante!" He recorrido ese camino, ¡y es un gran viaje!

Mientras el Padre Paul no esté, comenzare-mos el proceso de planificación para el 85 aniver-sario de nuestra parroquia. ¿Quién hubiera imagi-nado, allá por 1937, la forma en que el Espíritu Santo guio a nuestra parroquia en nuestro Viaje de Fe? ¿Quién puede adivinar cuántas personas han orado en nuestra iglesia? O, ¿cuántos han asistido a misa y han recibido los sacramentos? Y, ¿cuántos han cambiado sus vidas por el poder del Espíritu Santo? Por supuesto, nadie tiene la respuesta exacta a esas preguntas. ¡Pero es fácil ver cómo la Luz de Cristo ha guiado nuestra comunidad de fe! Durante los próximos meses, formaremos comités para planificar las celebra-ciones de un año y buscaremos formas de involu-crar a todos en la planificación y el desarrollo de nuestros eventos de aniversario. El número 85 puede no parecer un número significativo para celebrar, pero ¿no crees que después de todo lo que hemos pasado durante los últimos quince meses, se requiere una gran celebración? ¡Asegúrese de mirar el boletín para obtener actua-lizaciones y más información!

Durante estos próximos meses, continuemos orando por todos los que se han visto afectados por esta pandemia, y especialmente por aquellos en los países en desarrollo que aún no han cose-chado los beneficios de las vacunas. ¡Y continue-mos orando por nuestro Pastor, el Padre Paul, para que su tiempo Sabático sea reparador, ¡lleno de paz y lleno del Poder del Espíritu Santo! NORMAS Y PAUTAS ARQUIDIOCESANAS La Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles ha revisado sus pautas relacionadas con COVID-19 que fueron implementadas por todas las Parroquias la semana pasada (15 de junio). REGRESO A MISA. A partir de este fin de semana, el Arzobispo Gómez ha levantado la dispensa de la obligación de asistir a Misa. Se anima a todos los católicos a regresar a la Misa dominical. TRANSMISIONES EN VIVO DISPONIBLES. Si no se siente bien, tiene problemas de salud subyacentes o tiene grandes temores de enfermarse, no puede participar en la Misa en persona. Continuaremos ofreciendo dos Misas de transmisión en vivo cada semana en nuestros sitios de redes sociales: a las 9 am en inglés y a las 12:30 pm en español, así que, si se queda en casa, únase a nosotros a través de la transmisión en vivo. TODAS LAS MISAS DENTRO DE LA IGLESIA. A partir de hoy, todas nuestras Misas se Celebrarán dentro de la Iglesia. Le agradecemos su participación este año pasado en nuestras liturgias al aire libre. USO DE MÁSCARILLAS EN LA IGLESIA. Ya no se requerirán mascarillas para los feligreses completamente vacunados. Por supuesto, si usar una mascarilla lo hace sentir más cómodo, puede hacerlo como opción. SE REQUIEREN MASCARILLAS, Para todos los feligreses que no hayan sido vacunados.

No hay excepciones y esperamos que todos los feligreses no vacunados continúen con la práctica. CELEBRANDO MISA. A partir de este fin de semana, todas nuestras Misas se celebrarán sin distanciamiento social, asientos designados en las bancas o la necesidad de pre registración. ACERCA DE NUESTRA LITURGIA. Regresaremos gradualmente a todos nuestros ministerios litúrgicos en las próximas semanas y meses, incluyendo coros y monaguillos. Ministros, serán notificadas fechas y horas muy pronto. Continuaremos usando dos canastos para nuestra colección en el ofertorio, como se ha convertido en nuestra costumbre el año pasado. El juego “¿Qué pasaría si …?” es una excelente mane-ra de guiar a sus hijos a través de posibles escenarios y trabajar con ellos para encontrar las mejores solucio-nes. Pregúntele a sus hijos sobre escenarios de “qué pasaría si”, mezclando preguntas tontas con preguntas del mundo real para mantenerlos interesados y pensan-do. Por ejemplo, “¿Y si tuvieras superpoderes?” o “¿Qué pasa si un extraño te pide que vayas a algún lugar con él en el centro comercial?” Usted puede capacitar a sus hijos con habilidades para resolver problemas que los mantendrán seguros, incluso cuando usted no pueda estar allí para protegerlos. Hay circunstancias, acontecimientos y sucesos en la vida que nos hacen sentirnos felices, y alegres. Parece que todo nos sale bien. Que todo coopera a nuestra felicidad. Gozamos de buena salud, tenemos dinero, no hay problemas en la familia. Y esta alegría se desborda, se deja traslucir a los demás, la comunica-mos a los que nos rodean. En otras ocasiones parece que todo nos va mal. A pesar de nuestra buena volun-tad, no tenemos éxito en lo que emprendemos. Todo parece que se ha concertado en contra de nosotros. Y culpamos. a lo que con cierta superstición llamamos el destino o a Dios mismo. A veces cuando las cosas nos van mal, nos acordamos de Dios y le pedimos que nos ayude. Es tan complicada la sicología humana que, fácilmente pasa de unos sentimientos a otros: de la alegría a la tristeza, del placer al dolor, del atrevimien-to al miedo.

El ambiente de las lecturas de hoy nos habla de la grandeza y del poder de Dios y de la pequeñez del ser humano; del sufrimiento y de la incapacidad humana y de la fuerza de Dios que puede librarnos de todas las preocupaciones. Conocemos le escena del evangelio. Es de noche. Los apóstoles trabajan con remos en el mar. Jesús, cansado del trabajo del día, se duerme. De repente se levanta una tormenta, las olas saltan por encima de la barca, corre peligro de zozobrar y los apóstoles, asustados, despiertan a Jesús para pedirle ayuda. Y Jesús realiza el milagro. El mar se calma. En el Antiguo Testamento se considera el mar como señal y centro del poder del mal y de las tinieblas. Solamente Dios puede dominarlo. Jesús manda al mar y este se calma. Los apóstoles quedan asombrados an-te el poder y se preguntan: :¿Quién es éste, que hasta el viento y el mar le obedecen?”

Solamente Dios puede dominar el mar. Por tanto, este hombre que ha mandado y conseguido que el mar se tranquilice, es Dios. Jesús es Dios. Quizá hasta esta

noche no se había n dado perfecta cuenta los discípu-los de lo que realmente era Jesús. Lo admiraban como un personaje importante. Pero seguramente no habían visto en El a Dios. El milagro se realiza como conse-cuencia de la petición, de la oración de los apóstoles.

Despiertan a Jesús para hacerle ver el peligro en que se encuentran y pidiéndole que los salve. Jesús les reprocha su cobardía y su falta de fe. Han acudido a la oración, a la petición, cuando estaban en peligro. Por desgracia, es muy frecuente que sólo nos acordemos de Dios cuando nos encontramos en un momento de angustia: cuando estamos enfermos, cuando un ser querido se encuentra en el hospital, cuando las cosas no salen a nuestro gusto. Nosotros, como los apósto-les, nos olvidamos con frecuencia de que Jesús, de que Dios está con nosotros y que, por tanto, no debemos preocuparnos de las cosas. Nos envolvemos tan profundamente en el mundo que nos rodea, negocios, diversiones, que nos olvidamos de que Dios está junto a nosotros, Nos olvidamos vivir bajo la mirada de Dios. Por eso nos desanimamos y tenemos miedo ante cualquier dificultad que la vida nos presenta.

Reflexión

Se ha comparado la vida humana a una barca. El mundo es el mar complicado y profundo donde tenemos que movernos, lleno de peligros, de monstruos, de animales gigantescos dispuestos a devorarnos. Son muchas las dificultades con que nos encontramos, muchos los peligros que nos circundan y que quieren impedirnos llegar a nuestro destino, a la casa del Padre. Tener que atravesar el mar de la vida no es una cosa fácil. Las tentaciones, los enemi-gos de nuestra alma, las fuerzas del mal querrán dificultar nuestra peregrinación, querrán impedirnos llegar hasta el cielo, a la felicidad que buscamos y que no se encuentra en este mundo.

CONGRATULATIONS 

The Holy Name Society (HNS) wishes to congratulate

the St. Margaret Mary School Class of 2021 on their

recent gradua on.

The HNS provides two $2000 tui on assist scholar‐

ships for students choosing to a end a Catholic high

school. We had a number of excellent candidates

who were scored on their Dedica on to God, Service

to Community, Leadership and Involvement, an

Essay and their GPA.

We are proud to announce the winners of this year’s

Bishop Joseph Sartoris and Bishop Marc Trudeau

Scholarships are Jane Quinn and Alexia Padilla.

Both will be a ending St Anthony High School in

Long Beach in the fall.
