Howard Dodson is an internationally acclaimed specialist in Afiican-American historyand a noted lecturer, educator, and consuitant. Since 1984, IK has been Chief of the prestigiousSchombuig Cemer for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library. A 1961graduate of West Chester State College in Social Studies and English, Mr. Dodson has earned amaster s degree m US History and Political Science at ViManova Uoiversity and is completing aPh.D. in History at the University of California, Berkley.
In addition to being a leader in the study of Black Culture and the African diaspora, Mr.Dodson has taught at Emory, Shaw, and Columbia Universities, and has served as a consultant forthe Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. He was also Executive Director ofthe Institute of the Black World, worked as both a volunteer and staff member for the PeaceCorps, and served as a consultant for the Congressional Black Caucus, Atlanta University, theLibrary of Congress, and the US Dqiartment of Education.
Mr. Dodson's scholarly activities are considerable ranging from books and articles toexhibitions and essays dealing with African American liistory and culture.
