32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C
Again, today we see why the Gospel is called the good news. Jesus said very clearly God is not the God of dead, He is the God of the living. Jesus is challenging the teachings of the Sadducees, who denied the resurrection of the dead. Which is the teaching of many in the world today. The Sadducees thought they had found an opportunity to “show how foolish Jesus’ argument regarding the resurrection was”. But Jesus crafts his reply in his own form, this then leaves the Sadducees and their followers and those who think like them today facing their own questions.
I think Jesus is showing us how important it is to learn to practice conflict management. One way to do this is to engage the other not in a “me versus them” approach, but rather to seek a common ground with the other whoever that may be. Jesus changes the question and he offers his own analysis. What a respectful way to dissipate the conflict. Because the question changes, then the emphasis changes and another point of view is presented. Stop and think for a minute of how true it is that conflict management lies at the heart of a good marriage, is it not the best way for parents to live with one heart with their children? Is it also not the way to live in a good work environment? In short, it’s necessary to live a good life, learning to manage conflict.
Jesus in dissipating the conflict, encourages deeper reflection regarding the resurrection of the dead. Who takes part in the resurrection? If the risen life is not like our life here on earth then what is it like? And even more importantly the question arises - How should I live on earth. What must we do in order to be part of the resurrection? All these questions were pertinent not only on Jesus but our own as well.
For me this question regarding the resurrection means I must face other serious questions such as –
What is my purpose? Why am I here? What happens to me after death? What happens to all whom I love after they die? Is what I am doing aligned with God’s purpose? Have I learned to listen to God in silence? Have I chosen to live a conscious life? Is spending quiet time part of my practice? Have I come to realize how very much I need some time for silence?
So whether I am called to work with major external conflicts or those that are internal and per-sonal. I must learn how to change the questions. To spend time in reflections and silence. And to find common ground with those with whom I live and work. After all, are we not all called to live in such a way that we too will join Jesus in the resurrections of the dead?

¿He aprendido a escuchar a Dios en silencio? ¿He elegido vivir una vida consciente?
Padre Vattothu Jossy, CMI Vicario Parroquial
