Lift Every Voice and SingLift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of liberty;Let our rejoicing rise, high as the list’ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us, Facing the rising sun - of a new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod, bitter the chast’ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet, Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path thro’ the blood of the slaughtered.
Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last,Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by thy might, led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God where we met Thee,Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand, True to our God, true to our native land.

February 11, 2018 Dear TABSE,
Congratulations on your 33rd Annual State Conference. Your mark will be made in history today. The selfless sacrifices you have made on a state and national level advocating for children and families of African descent and for the tireless work of educators that serve this population is your hallmark of excellence. I serve with you in strong advocacy for the theme: Educate, Engage & Empower - The Time is NOW! I salute your commitment, dedication and tradition of excellence in advocating for academic civil rights for all children, children of African descent and for the teachers that lead them.
May your labor of love bear fruit and continue to multiply on a national level. This is your moment. A moment that is securely tucked away in a lifetime of moments. However, in this moment, collectively and collaboratively TABSE joins forces with community partners and organizations to recognize that education is a gateway of inspiration and advocacy that gives to both present and future generations.
Those attending that are not members of TABSE, it is time to make your individual work part of our collective force. Together we can to create a pathway to empower all students with access to the tools needed to build a successful future, regardless of their beginnings. It is what we do today that will make a difference tomorrow. Join me, the executive board of TABSE and the TABPHE membership in advocating for the educational civil right of all children in the Texas area.
As President, I commend and congratulate teachers, principals, superintendents, school board members, students and parents who attend, support and benefit from this conference. We look forward to your attendance at our National Conference in Baltimore, Maryland in November 2018. In service with you,

February 11, 2018
Greeting Conference Attendees,
As President-Elect for the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, I am pleased to welcome everyone gathered for the 33rd Annual TABSE Conference.
What does it take for an organization to exist for 33 years? To build a formidable home, one must commit to establishing a solid foundation, one that will withstand the many challenges to its structure. TABSE was founded with the goal of withstanding the challenges of the work and advancement of educators seeking to serve students, families and communities across the many places from which we have come. Over the 33-year history of the TABSE organization, we have lost members along the way, but many remain in our midst committed to the focus of our work and existence. We recognize and celebrate TABSE’s founders for their role in establishing a legacy for the future of this organization to grow, evolve, and serve the many people interested in seeking an environment of support, development and connection across this network of professionals.
TABSE is comprised of driven leaders who spearhead the continued existence of the organization, reiterating the value and validity of its purpose to enrich and advocate for educators through research-driven professional development and trainings. Every year, we feature distinguished education professionals and students from both the state and national level. This year’s conference will focus on examining research and best practices that have an immediate impact on academic outcomes for students of color.
We persist to equip members with the tools and resources to close the achievement gap among minority students by continuing to provide culturally-relevant and culturally-unbiased tools to better serve this underserved student demographic. Resounding data speaks to the need for relevant tools and resources. As a result, TABSE is a collective effort planned and designed for this annual experience to provide a quality experience where thought-leaders gather to share best and meaningful practices with students always at the forefront. I am certain that all attendees will leave more knowledgeable and passionate about their role in serving students of color in your communities.
As a result of your efforts to make TABSE a priority, you have positively impacted the lives of many children and provided a commendable example of service for other educators to follow and it is in that vein of service that I am honored to serve as President-Elect for the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators.
Sincerely,
David C. HarrisDavid C. Harris, Ed.D.TABSE-President Elect

Date/ Time: Thursday, 2/22/18 Concurrent Session 1: 11:15-12:30Room: Arboretum 2Session Title: Peacemaking Circles and Urban YouthSession Format: General Session Description: As educators we are responsible for having a heart for kids. We are NOT allowed to break down the spirit of kids. With that
being said, it is our responsibility to get to the heart of the matter. The behavior that our students exhibit gives you insight to the lives they are living on a daily basis. The question should be what is making this kid exhibit behaviors that require suspension. You can learn this by conducting Restorative Practice (RP) Circles and the entire program on your campus. RP gives students a voice and an opportunity for educators to show they care. Many of our kids are not receiving the love or attention they need from home. And in search of that they are resorting to other measures to fulfill these needs. My presentation will display the importance of Circles and Restorative Practices on a campus.

LET’S TALK!Session Format: General Session Description: In schools across America, there are thousands of classroom teachers who aspire to one day become school leaders. They
are either thinking about enrolling in a graduate school leadership program; they are already in a program or they have completed the program but have not yet landed their first administrative position. They are hungry and eager to lead. The problem is that many of them do not have the necessary access to seasoned and effective school leaders that can share with them the ins and outs of school leadership to help them determine if this is what they truly want to do. From afar, they see their principals in action, but unless that principal is willing or able to engage them in the long discussions about school leadership, chances are they are only learning through observation and from the vantage point of their classrooms. This workshop was designed for those individuals. It fills the void of those heart-to-heart conversations with a seasoned principal. It provides the aspiring principal with a wealth of information to think about and to consider now toward pursuing the principalship. This workshop is particularly useful as a compliment to an existing district leadership development program.
