    I COPYING I1. Starting the Copier

    1. Turn on the main switch.

    L

    Wait for the copier to warm up.During the warm-up period (ap-proximately 30 seconds), the Startindicator stays red,When the warm-up period is com-pleted, the Start indicator turnsgreen. The copier is ready to makecopies.

    If you press the Start key during thewarm-up period, the red Start indicatorwill blink. Then the copier will automat-ically start copying after the warm-upperiod. (Auto Start mode)

    At the end of the day, turn off themain switch.

    2. Standard Copying1. Place the original face down on theexposure glass.

    The original should be centered ac-cording to the size marks on the leftscale. Narrow margins at the leading and side

    edges of the original are not copied.

    2. Set the image density level to matchthe type and quality of the original. This is not necessary if Auto Image

    Density is on.

    3. Enter the number of copies requiredusing the Increase Quantity key orDecrease Quantity key. Up to 99 copies can be entered. To change the number entered, press

    the Clear/Stop key and then enter thenew number. Or, use the Quantitykeys to enter the new number.

    4. Lower the platen cover.

    5. Press the Start key. To stop the machine during a multicopyrun, press the Clear/Stop key. Press the Start key to resume copying

    or press the Clear/Stop key again toclear the copy counter.

    6. Remove the copies from the copytray and the original from the ex-posure glass, The copy tray holds approximately 100copies.

    If you make 81/2 x 14 size copies, ex-tend the copy tray to stack themproperly.

    If transparenciesfail to stack properly inthe copy tray, raise the left end of thecenter rib.

    3. Manual Feed CopyingUse the manual feed entrance for paper of unusual size or weight.

    One sheet should be inserted into the manual feed entrance at a time.Manual feed copying also may be used for OHP transparencies, adhesive labels, or postcards.

    4. Interrupt Copying

    Press the Interrupt key to interrupt a multicopy run, and make urgently neededcopies.. When copying with the document feeder, the interrupt procedure is slightly different. Seepage 22.

    Press the Interrupt key, The copier will stop the copy run and

    store the previous copy settings inmemory.

    The copier will return to standard mode. The reproduction ratio will not be reset.

    Remove the previous original fromthe exposure glass and place theinterrupt original.Make copies following the standardcopying procedure. (See page 9.)

    After interrupt copying is completed,press the Interrupt key again torecall the previous copy settings.Reset the previouspress the Start key, original and

    6. Zoom (FT3313 only)

    In this mode, the reproduction ratio can be changed from 61 YO to 141 YO in 1percent steps.

    1. Press the Zoom Down key repeat-edly to reduce the ratio in 1 steps.Or, press the Zoom Up key repeat-edly to increase the ratio in 1 40steps.

    2. Follow the standard copying proce-dure. See page 9.

    I SPECIAL FEATURES ISome of this copiers features can be adjusted by your service representativeto suit your application needs. This section gives a brief description of thesefeatures. If you wish to get more information or use the following features,contact your service representative.I. Automatic Reset Time1 minute after the final copy is made, all input modes are reset to standardmodes. If a 1 minute reset time is not appropriate for your needs, 3 minutes orno automatic reset can be selected.

    2. Copy Counter UP/DOWNEither count-up (standard setting) or count-down can be selected.

    3. Auto Image Density PriorityAuto Image Density mode is the standard mode. However, you can cancel thissetting, and select the Manual Image Density mode as the standard mode.

    4. Auto Image Density LevelThe auto image density level can be made lighter or darker.

    5. Maximum Copy QuantityThe maximum copy quantity can be set from 1 to 99, (99 is standard setting.)

    REPLENISHING SUPPLIES1. Loading PaperJ1 is displayed on the copy counter when the paper tray in use runs out ofpaper. Load paper as follows.

    2. Adding TonerWhen the Add Toner ( ~ } indicator blinks, it is time to supply toner, Whenthe Add Toner indicator is continuously on, copies cannot be made until thetoner cartridge is replaced.

    For good copy quality, Ricoh recommends that you use genuine Ricoh toner.

    1. Open the front cover,

    I 12. Push in the old toner cartridge, turnit clockwise until it stops, and pull itout,Warning: Do not incinerate the used toneicartridge. Toner dust may cause flashbackwhen ex~osed to open flame.

    3, Shake the new toner cartridge welland insert it as shown in the illustra-tion.

    inserting the new cartridge.5. Push in the toner cartridge com-pletely. Turn it counterclockwiseuntil it stops.6. Close the front cover.

    Paper StoragePaper should always be stored properly, because poor paper condition willresult in poor image reproduction, creased copies, and paper misfeeds.Generally, to avoid curling and absorption of moisture.

    Toner Storage

    Avoid storing paper in humidareas.NEVER store paper where it willbe exposed to heat.Store on a FLAT SURFACE,Use OLDER STOCK first.Do not lay heavy objects onpaper.Keep open reams of paper in thePACKAGE, and store as youwould unopened paper,

    Store horizontally in a COOL,DARK place.Store toner cartridge flat.NEVER store toner where it willbe exposed to heat.Keep out of reach of children.Do not take internally.Do not lay heavy objects ontoner cartridges.Do not incinerate toner or tonercontainers. Toner dust maycause flashback when exposedto open flame.

    2. Automatic Document Feed (ADF)In this mode, the operator inserts a stack of originals into the original table.These originals are individually fed onto and removed from the exposure glass,

    1. Square the stack of originals. Then,while adjusting the original guides,insert the originals face up into theoriginal table until the InsertOriginal indicator turns off, (ADFmode is automatically selected,) Last page should be on the bottom. Approximately 30 originals can be in-

    serted at one time. Guides must fit snugly against both

    sides of the stack.

    2. Follow the standard copying proce-dure. (See page 9.)

    3. The bottom sheet of the originalstack (last page) is copied first.

    Press the Interrupt key. Theoriginal on the exposure glass willbe fed out of the exit unit, The copier will return to standard mode. The reproduction ratio will not be reset.(FT3313 only)

    Remove the originals from theoriginal table.While adjusting the original guides,insert the interrupt original(s) untilthe Insert Original indicator turnsoff . Follow the standard copyingprocedure. (See page 9.)After completing interrupt copying,press the Interrupt key again toreturn the copier to the previouscopy setting,

    If copying of the interrupted originalis not completed, return it to thebottom of the stack of originals.Insert the originals and continuecopying by pressing the Start key.

    TROUBLESHOOTING I1. Clearing MisfeedsWhen there is a paper misfeed, a misfeedis displayed in the copy counter. If JO,Paper Path indicator ( ~.+ ) will also light.

    positions and the top unit and front cover are closed.. When a paper misfeed occurs, the copier automatically keeps track of the selected copy

    modes and how many originals have been completed. It is not necessary to reset thecopy modes and the copy quantity after removing misfed paper.

    Repeat the procedures described in this section until the Check Paper Path indicator andmisfeed location number (JO, JI, J2, or J3) go out. (The indicators do not function unlessthe front cover is closed.)

    Do not open the front cover after the misfeed condition is cleared. (The copiers memorywill be erased if you do.)

    When the document feeder is equipped, make sure to use the top unit stand to keep thetop unit open.

    3. Service Codes

    - mlazil -The copiers microcomputer constantly monitors mechanical and electricalfunctions. If a malfunction occurs, E and service code numbers will blinkalternately in the copy counter. If that happens, turn the main switch off, waita few seconds, and then turn it on.If the service code appears again, call your service representative.

    IEz lWhen the used toner tank is full, E and 70 will start to blink alternately in thecopy counter. (Only 250 copies can be made after this.) Call your servicerepresentative.

    DAILY MAINTENANCETo maintain a high copy quality, clean the following parts and units regularly.

    1 Copier Exposure Glass

    Platen Cover I

    Corona Wire

    Clean the exposure glass with adamp cloth and wipe it with a drycloth.

    Clean the platen cover with a dampcloth and wipe it with a dry cloth. Ifstains do not come off, use a weakcleaning solution.

    Do the following when white streaksappear on the copy or when imagedensity becomes uneven,1. Open the front cover.2. Slide the corona unit in and outseveral times.3. Push the corona unit back in.Make sure it locks into place.4. Close the front cover.
