There were still some perches with old dry droppings stuck firmly on them (barnacled). However, Harmony did not care about the smell or how it looked because it her safe place to escape from the real world (retreat). Rex Ruff was very old as well. Three of his legs were stiff but his fourth leg was squidgy and longer than it should be (elongated). Harmony was looking at her toy in a serious manner (earnestly). She was annoyed her parents did not want a real pet. Suddenly, she could hear her mum calling her name. Who could it be? Let’s read and find out.

Wednesday 6th January 2021

Dear Miss Faddy, Having been a pupil at Ark Bentworth Primary for the last five years, I feel it is now my duty to tell you the feelings of your students towards recycling. The majority of the pupils feel that we do not have the correct recycling bins in our school to throw away our rubbish. By writing this letter, I hope to convince you that it is crucial we take action before it is too late. To begin with, a recent survey conducted by the school council identified that an overwhelming majority of 79% of pupils would prefer to have recycling bins in our school. Also, as a Head Teacher, it is your duty to listen to and consider any opinions of your students and to negotiate with them. You must act now! Do you not care about what your students think? Secondly, when we recycle, materials are converted into new products which we can reuse. This is incredibly important! Moreover, as recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change. Also, every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans which is killing the planets wildlife. Do you not care about our environment? Finally, it can create a great opportunity for a whole school project where children throughout the school can design their own recycling bins and elect recycling monitors. This would be so much fun! As a result of this, there could be competitions between classes or houses for who can collect the most recycling. Therefore, children will be more likely to go home and encourage their families to do the same which will improve the overall recycling rates of the local community. Do you not care about our community? As you can see, there are many compelling arguments to recycle like the student council identifying most the pupils agreeing, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to create more awareness through competitions. Please consider the points I have raised in this letter carefully. My fellow students and I look forward to hearing your response. Would you not like to make a change? Yours sincerely Riky Year 3 student

Who was Paul Cezanne?

What is a still life?

Paul Cézanne was born in Aix-en-Provence in France on 19th

January, 1839.

His father had a successful business as the co-founder of a French banking firm.

In 1856, Cézanne began having drawing and painting lessons – though his father disapproved.

To please his father, Cézanne studied law at university, but he also continued to study art. However, his father later allowed Paul to go to Paris, and supported his decision to be an artist.

Still life is simply a painting or drawing of objects = the subject matter is inanimate objects rather than living things, such as in portraits.
