Next Sunday, we are called to be part of the

Church’s missionary efforts, supporting mission

priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay

catechists who provide loving service to those

most in need. As Catholics around the world,

here at home and in the missions, gather at the

Eucharist around the table of the Lord, let us

pray for the Church’s worldwide missionary work

and offer financial help through the Society for

the Propagation of the Faith for vulnerable com-

munities throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America

and the Pacific Islands.

Please Note: for this collection,

please make check payable to

The Propagation of the Faith.

About The Types of

Catholic Wedding Ceremonies

There are two forms of Catholic wedding

Liturgy:

The Wedding or Nuptial Mass:

Often referred to as a “full Mass,” it is the

celebration of the Mass with the wedding

ceremony inserted in the middle of the

Liturgy. It presupposes both parties are

practicing Catholics and receiving Holy

Communion after a proper spiritual prepa-

ration.

The Wedding Ceremony:

This has all the elements of the above

(music, readings, vows, etc.) but without

the celebration of Mass. This form is suit-

able for general congregations and is of

shorter duration than the above.

PLEASE NOTE: Nuptial Masses are

NOT celebrated on Sundays. The ONLY

exception is when a visiting priest is

invited by the family, approved by the

Pastor and is willing to offer a Nuptial

Mass on Sunday.

DAILY OFFERING PRAYER -

God, our Father, I offer You my day. I offer You my prayers, thoughts, words, actions, joys, and suf-

ferings in union with Your Son Jesus' Heart, Who continues to offer Himself in the Eucharist for the

salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit, who guided Jesus, be my guide and my strength today so

that I may witness to Your love.

OCTOBER: The Laity’s Mission in the Church - That by the virtue of baptism, the laity,

especially women, may participate more in areas of responsibility in the Church.

The Apostleship of Prayer is a worldwide association of Catholics and

other Christians who strive to make their ordinary, everyday lives apostolic-

ally effective. Through the Apostleship of Prayer, the Pope gives his monthly

prayer intentions to the entire Church. For this reason, the Apostleship came

to be known as "the Pope's own prayer group."

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation Day is Tuesday, October 20, 2020. There will be two sessions—one at 11AM

for students whose last name begins with A thru L and one at 1:30PM for students whose last name begins

with M thru Z.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES

Registration forms for the upcoming Winter Program (November 2020 thru April 2021) are

coming in at a slower pace for students in grades two through eight. It is important that you return those

bright pink forms as soon as possible either by dropping them off or mailing them in. If you don’t have the

registration form, you can come into the Parish Center and pick one up or call and we will mail you one. We

are beginning to put children into classes which begin shortly.

Due to continuing concerns/regulations re the coronavirus, we have altered our class sched-

ules. Classes will begin on Monday, November 2, 2020. The sacrament years grades 1,2,7&8 will be here in

the Parish Center building with social distancing and appropriate hygienic measures. Grades 3,4,5&6 will be

a home school program where a parent or guardian will teach only their own child/children in those grades.

All students whether being taught here on site or at home must be registered so they get credit for this calen-

dar year.

TEACHERS

We are now looking ahead to the 2020-2021 Winter Program that begins on Monday,

November 2nd and runs through the end of April 2021. Teachers are always needed. At this time, we are

looking for new people (men and women) who would like to join our teaching staff. If you would like to

teach, please contact the Religion Office.

You can make a difference in the lives of those around us

by making a gift to this year’s Catholic Ministries Appeal

Because of you, every year we serve more than 600,000 people in our Long Island

Community. This support enables our children to continue to receive the gift of spiri-

tual formation, sacramental preparation, and quality education. It allows seminari-

ans and lay leaders to fulfill their calling to serve the community. With your support,

Catholic Charities can maintain its services for the poor and disadvantaged, and we

can continue to reach out to our young people and others to find the best ways to

guide and pass on our faith from generation to generation.

To make a donation or for more information about the Catholic Ministries Appeal, please visit

https://www.drvc.org/donate/CMA/ or call us at 516-678-5800 ext. 296 or call Jack Maccio at

October 11, 2020 Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time 11

At this time, the Parish has resumed accepting clothing donations.

The St. Vincent De Paul clothing donation bins are now open.

October 11 - Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel we hear Jesus say: “Many are invited, but few are chosen.”

To give thanks for all that God has given to you, have you considered

answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St.

Vincent de Paul?

The St. Matthew’s Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to extend their

gratitude to our parishioners whose donations allow us to help our neighbors.

A neighbor who has received support from our conference sent us a thank you card. In it she

says, “I would like to thank you for all you have done. Thank you for when I went through a hard-

ship in my life and family life. Thank you for the blessing that is/was bestowed on my family. God

bless you and your ministry.”

Here I am again, trying unsuccessfully to come up with something to

uplift our spirits. We hear, “when will this be over? I can’t take it anymore!”

Admittedly, these are very trying times and we yearn for what was once

normal. Our patience is on its last nerve. While we are coping with

nothing to do, and all the time in the world to do it, how about thanking God

for what we have, and really showing love and patience for each other and

especially those who have little or no understanding as to what this is all about. I hope you will

enjoy the following:

For Friends of the Exceptional

1. Blessed are you who take time to listen to difficult speech, or failing eyes, for you help us to

know that if we persevere, we can be understood.

2. Blessed are you who walk with us in public places, and ignore the stares of strangers, for in

your companionship we find havens of relaxation.

3. Blessed are you who stand beside us as we enter new and untried adventures, for our failures

will be outweighed by the times we surprise you and ourselves.

4. Blessed are you who never bid us to “hurry up“ or snatch tasks from our hands to do them for

us, for often we need time, not help.

5. Blessed are you who ask for our help, for our greatest need is to be needed.

6. Blessed are you when by all these things, you assure us that the thing that makes us individu-

als is not our imperfect speech or sight, nor our defective hearing or in our difficulties in learn-

ing, but in the God given self, which no infirmity can confine.

7. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad and know that you have given us assurances that could

never be spoken in words, for you deal with us as Christ dealt with all His children.

This was composed for the deaf, but I feel that it can be applicable to so many infirmities

both physical, mental and even those suffering from dementia.

Pray for everyone and especially our country. It seems like Satan is still dancing. Let’s see

if we can stop his music.

See you in Church,

Pat

Focus on Religious Freedom

www.cffor.org

Hope for a Third Great Awakening in America

Tens of thousands of Christians gathered on the National Mall and at the Lincoln Memorial

in Washington D.C. on September 26, 2020 for a National Day of Prayer and Return, calling all

Americans to return to God and to heal the nation. With freedom of religion, freedom of worship,

freedom of conscience, and freedom of speech in jeopardy today, these two worship services

focused on a theme of repentance and prayer, rejecting sin and returning to God in turbulent

times.

Rabbi Jonathan Cahn and Rev. Franklin Graham, organizers of the events, explained that

America is a nation that started in covenant with God 400 years ago to glorify Him and spread His

gospel to the whole world (see Mayflower Compact, 1620). But the country has spiraled down to

legislate immorality. Jonathan Cahn said, "We drove God out of our hearts, out of our govern-

ment, out of our ways, out of our laws, out of the education of our children, out of the public

squares."(1)

The enthusiasm of the thousands attending is reminiscent of the First Great Awakening, a

spiritual revival led by inspirational preachers prior to the American Revolution. A Second Great

Awakening before the Civil War, also led by preachers, exhorted repentance and a return to God

and his Ten Commandments.

President Trump took part in the event sending a message from the White House:

"On this inaugural National Day of Prayer and Return, the First Lady and I join millions of

Christians here in the United States and around the world in prayer, as we turn our hearts to our

Lord and Savior.”

"Our great Nation was founded by men and women of deep and abiding faith - a faith that

has stood the test of time. Four Hundred years ago, early American settlers trusted their lives to

His providence and braved a voyage to a New world....”

"The trials and tribulations the American people have faced over the past several months

have been great. Yet, as we have seen time and again, the resolve of our citizenry - fortified by

faith in God - has guided us through these hardships and helped to unite us as one Nation under

God."(2)

Such public gatherings, based on faith and morals, are meant to be protected under first

amendment freedoms. In recent decades these freedoms have been diminished and denied by

cultural norms and government edict. A Third Great Awakening would return God to his rightful

place in this nation founded on inalienable rights from our Creator.
