SYSTEM PRESENTATION
CREW SYSTEM
The flight crew oxygen system supplies oxygen to theflight crew if there is a loss of cabin pressurization,or a smoke emission.The oxygen is supplied by a high pressure oxygencylinder.
PASSENGER SYSTEM
The passenger and cabin attendant oxygen system issupplied by chemical oxygen generator units.Thechemical generator units provide oxygen forapproximately 13 or 15 minutes.
PORTABLE SYSTEM
The portable oxygen system supplies oxygen to thepassengers, the cabin attendants and the flight crewin an emergency.The smoke hood system provides breathing means and eyeprotection for the crew members and cabin attendants.Itpermits them to move freely to extinguish a fire.The high pressure portable cylinder with continuousflow type masks supplies first aid oxygen for thepassengers.

CREW OXYGEN SYSTEM PRESENTATION
HP SOURCE
The crew oxygen source consists of a high pressurecylinder which can be isolated for maintenance, by amanual ON/OFF valve.A direct reading pressure gage gives an indication ofthe cylinder pressure.Cylinder data
- capacity : 3260 l (115 cu ft)- nominal charge : 1850 psig
The cylinder is placed in a cradle and secured by aquick disconnect metallic clamp designed to resist tohigh crash loads.
PRESSURE REGULATION
The pressure regulator transmitter is directlyconnected to the cylinder. It consists of a highpressure stage with an integrated pressure transducerfor ECAM indication and a low pressure stage.The pressure regulator regulates low pressureat 78 8 psig.
OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION
High pressure and low pressure protection is achievedby safety devices consisting of a high pressure safetyoutlet and a low pressure safety outlet.The high pressure safety outlet is of a frangible disktype whereas the low pressure safety outlet is apressure relief valve.The rupture of the frangible disk is set at a cylinderpressure of 2500 to 2775 psig.
The pressure relief valve limits the low pressureoxygen supply to 175 psig.
OVERPRESSURE INDICATION
An overboard green discharge indicator is connectedto the high pressure safety outlet and to the lowpressure safety outlet.In case of overpressure, the green disk blows out anda yellow indicator is displayed showing that thecylinder has discharged or the pressure relief valvehas opened.
SUPPLY VALVE
A supply valve enables downstream distribution by crewaction on the CREW SUPPLY pushbutton on the oxygenpanel.Electrical supply to the valve is applied only for 1.5seconds corresponding to the operating time of thevalve.
DISTRIBUTION
A pressure switch and a test port are connected on thelow pressure manifold.The low pressure switch indicates a low pressuredetection in the LP manifold.It activates a message on the ECAM/DOOR/OXY page.Pressure switch setting : 50 psig.Test port pressure lower than 145 psig.

HP IN PLACE VISUAL INDICATION
The direct reading pressure gage is used to read thecylinder pressure.
MANUAL ISOLATION
The manual ON/OFF valve allows cylinder isolation.The pressure gage reading is available whether themanual valve is open or closed.
HP INDICATION
The HP indication appears on the DOOR/OXY ECAM page.
LP CONTROL
The solenoid supply valve is supplied for a short timeonly, corresponding to the valve operating time.This valve is used to isolate the cylinder from therest of the circuit on ground only.
LP WARNING
The REGULATOR LOW PRESSURE message appears amber onthe ECAM DOOR/OXY page in low pressure conditions only.

OPERATION
The mask assy and the stowage box are installedadjacent to each crew member seat. The stowage boxwhich contains the mask, also controls the flow ofoxygen when the mask is pulled out of the box.To use the mask, squeeze the red clips, which willinflate the mask harness ; releasing the red clipswill stop oxygen flow to the harness and vent theoxygen remaining in the harness to the atmosphere.

OPERATION
Oxygen flow is indicated by the blinker showing yellowand an "OXY ON" flag which appears on the left doorwhen closed.In the normal position, the user breathes a mixtureof cabin air and oxygen.When the selector is in the 100 % position, the userwill breathe pure oxygen.To take the mask off, the harness has to be inflated.This is done by operating the red clips.

STOWAGE
Proper stowing of the mask is essential for quick andefficient donning of the mask.Open the stowage box flap doors, and position theflexible hose correctly.Engage the mask assy, regulator on top.Close the left flap door carefully while pushing thereset test slider to retract the OXY ON flag.At the end of the restowing operation, do the : INSITU TESTING.

TESTS
Push the reset test slider. The blinker turns yellowand goes black again showing that the regulator isleak tight.Press the harness inflation control. The blinker turnsyellow and goes black again showing that the harnessis leak tight.The on demand system is tested by pressing theemergency rotation knob. The microphone is tested byactivating the loudspeakers, the interphone, and bypressing the emergency rotation knob.When the previous tests are completed, make sure thatthe NORMAL / 100 % selector is locked in the 100 %position, and the reset test slider returns to the UPposition.

GENERAL
The crew smoke hood system provides eyes protectionand supplies oxygen to the crew member in case ofemergency :fire, or an emission of smoke and/or noxiousgases.The crew smoke hood system allows freedom of movementto extinguish a fire. It can also be used as anemergency-oxygen supply if the fixed emergency-oxygensystem does not work.
LOCATION
The smoke hood is vacuum packed in a transport/storagecontainer.The crew smoke hoods are installed in the cockpit inthe first officers console (702VU).Smoke hoods for cabin attendants are installed in thecabin.

OPERATION
When doned, the automatic start lever connected to theannular container, releases the compressed oxygenstored inside the container.Then, the oxygen fills up the compartment between theexternal and the internal hood.During inhalation, the oxygen flows to the innercompartment through the absorption system.During exhalation, the absorption system traps thecarbon dioxyde contained in the expired gas through alayer of soda lime.A pressure control valve prevents an increase ofpressure in the hood.A phonic membrane allows the user to communicateeasily.NOTE :
- A slight noise of oxygen flow is heard bythe wearer during operation.When the noise of oxygen flow stops, thehood should no longer be used.

PRECAUTIONS
WARNING :KEEP ALL HYDROCARBONS (FUEL, LUBRICANTS, ETC...) AWAYFROM ALL SOURCE OF OXYGEN. OXYGEN BECOMES EXPLOSIVEWHEN IT TOUCHES HYDROCARBONS.CLEAN THE TOOLS AND MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN TOPREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE OXYGEN SYSTEM.
CAUTION :PUT DRY AND CLEAN, METAL OR PLASTIC PLUGS AN ALL PIPESOR UNITS REMOVED TEMPORARILY.PUT EACH PIPE OR UNIT IN A SEALED VINYL BAG.
REMOVAL
Put the access platform in position and open the accessdoor 812.The oxygen cylinder has to be removed in case of lowcontent or leakage. Close the oxygen cylinder ON/OFFvalve.Energize the aircraft electrical circuits ; make surethat the avionics equipment ventilation operatescorrectly.Check that the OXYGEN/CREW/OXY/SPLY circuit-breaker 1 HT is closed.Bleed and empty the oxygen system:
- press the OXYGEN/CREW SUPPLY pushbutton.- On one of the oxygen masks, actuate the PRESSTO TEST AND RESET slider several times to emptythe system.
- release the OXYGEN/CREW SUPPLY pushbutton.- open, safety and tag the OXYGEN/CREW/OXY/SPLYcircuit breaker 1 HT.
Loosen the nut and disconnect the pressure regulatortransmitter assembly from the oxygen cylinder.Put a blanking cap on the pressure regulator and putit in a sealed vinyl bag.Put an oxygen cylinder cap on the cylinder valve.Disconnect the HP safety hose from the cylinder head ;discard the sleeve and put a blanking cap on the union.Put an oxygen cylinder stowage cap on the cylindervalve.Loosen the nut and disengage the pin from the clampto remove the cylinder from the support.

INSTALLATION
Make sure that the aircraft is in the sameconfiguration as for the removal operation.Open and tag the circuit-breaker:
- OXYGEN/CREW/OXY/SPLY 1 HTMake sure that the parts retained from the removedcomponent are clean and in the correct condition.Check the expiration date on the cylinder to make sureit can still be used.
NOTE: No compound, except SPECIAL MATERIALS must beused on nut threads or on the flared portion ofthe tube. This compound should be used sparinglyon all first three male threads.
Carefully put the cylinder on the support.Close the clamp and tighten the pin.Remove the oxygen cylinder stowage cap from thecylinder valve.Remove the blanking cap from the HP safety connector.Put a new sleeve on the union and tighten the HP safetyconnector on the cylinder head.Remove the blanking cap from the pressure regulatortransmitter assembly and the corresponding stowage capon the cylinder head.Put the regulator on the valve and tighten the nut.Apply the SPECIAL MATERIAL solution to the mechanicalconnections.Very slowly, open the valve of the cylinder 3. 5 to4 turns.Let the pressure become stable, this occurs afterapproximately 90 seconds. Fully open the cylindervalve.
Examine each connection to make sure that there areno leaks.Rub off the SPECIAL MATERIAL solution.Make sure that the work area is clean and clear oftools and other items.Close the access door 812.Remove the access platform.De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits.Remove the safety clip and the tag.Close the circuit-breaker 1 HT.
