The Parish Outreach Basket–in-Hand collec on on September 8-9 will be
dedicated to Habitat for Humanity once again this year. Last year, Holy Spirit parishioners assisted the
Gonzalez family to realize the dream of home ownership in the first home built in
the new 10-home Rialto Ranch Subdivision in Clovis. The Gonzalez home
is now finished and they are currently moving in with great joy and sincere
gra tude. Our 2017 collec on will provide
support to the Karapetyan family, immigrants from Armenia with a young son and a baby on the way.
They are so thankful for the opportunity to build their own home and raise their family in the Clovis School District.
Their new home is up next for ground breaking at Rialto Ranch. To qualify for a Habitat for Humanity home, a family must
demonstrate need, donate 500 hours of sweat equity, and pay a no-profit, zero interest loan. By helping families with affordable
housing solu ons, Habitat Fresno offers a hand up, not a
hand out. Thank you for your con nued generosity and please pray for
families affected by poverty and homelessness.

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY– SEPTEMBER 17, 2017
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated the third Sunday in September as Cateche cal Sunday.
Cateche cal Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Bap sm, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Cateche cal Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. The root word, "catechesis," is from a
Greek word meaning "to echo, or resound." Catechesis is the act of resounding or bringing the Church's teachings
to the world. A catechist is one who teaches in the name of the Church. Catechesis is a dis nct and special ministry in the Church. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear,
“Catechesis is in mately bound up with the whole of the Church’s life . . . her inner growth and correspondence with God’s plan
depend essen ally on catechesis” (no. 7). This ministry of teaching in the name of the Church has a profound dignity, which is why catechists are formally commissioned by the Church. It is only
fi ng that we set aside a day to highlight this ministry and invite the en re church community to think about our responsibility to
share our faith with others. A R E L T /
