• Conduct simpler tasks quickly before moving to deeper interactions on knotty policy issues

4. Organize special session for Chicago ITS World Congress on Benchmarking ATIS Activities

5. Seek Canadian & European comments on InfoStructure6. Support WG1.1 subtask on preparing ATIS for 3G

OnStar (Private ATIS example from Sweeney)

• OnStar currently has about 80% market share, via the GM brands as well as Lexus, Acura, Audi and Subaru

• OnStar’s subscriber base is scaling exponentially– The OnStar business grew 250% from 2000 to 2001– OnStar as of Dec. 31, 2001 has about 2 million subscribers– OnStar is enrolling more than 5,000 new subscribers a day

• OnStar has had more than 10 million interactions with customers in all U.S. counties and all provinces of Canada– 200,000 routing calls per month– 15,000 door unlocks/month– 14,250 roadside dispatches/month– 300 air-bag deployments/month– 375 stolen vehicles located/month

• Aggressive marketing – Batman TV ads (helps ITS awareness)• Business model is primarily reselling cellular telephone airtime
