NUESTRO SEñOR JESUCRISTO, REY DEL UNIVERSO

Reflection in preparation for next weekend’s Gospel

If you brought your child to the restroom during the Liturgy of the Word, you might walk away with one of two interpretations of Jesus as King. The first and second readings are bold and vic-torious. We see Christ coming on the clouds for the final judgment of heaven and earth. The Gospel sets a very different tone. Jesus is under arrest and facing death before Pontius Pilate. We know how this story will end. So if Christ is King, what does it mean? Is he a glorious conqueror or a suffering servant? "My kingdom does not belong to this world." Here is the heart of Jesus' reign. He is a king -- and his "subjects" are alive and well on earth -- but, ultimate-ly, Jesus' kingdom transcends our earthly concepts of power. Jesus faced down the temptation of a solely earthly kingship. At the close of his 40 days in the desert, the devil offered him the kingdoms of the world. Jesus only had to sacrifice his heavenly values and worship Satan. The same temptations to distort the kingship of Christ are present to us today. Jesus' invitation also endures. "Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." It is important for us to belong to the full truth of Christ's kingdom. First, our own hearts must be transformed. Our own rebellions in favor of selfishness and against holiness must be conquered by God's grace. Second, we must work to transform the world as best we can in our own corner of it. Like Jesus shows us by his life and death, this doesn't mean domination. It means ser-vice, sacrifice, respect, and love. Our lives must "testify to the truth" of Jesus Christ, who lays down his life for his people. That is the true beauty of Christ the King!

Father, all of Creation rightly owes you thanks and

praise. Your justice, love and mercy abound. We

thank you this day for all that you have given us:

For the Passion and Death of your Divine Son, we

thank you Father, through the Cross, He redeemed

For the Church, we thank you Father, it is our beacon

for salvation.

For the martyrs and saints who give testimony to

your Son, we thank you Father, their witness to your

In Amoris Laetitia, the pope offers several suggestions on how to keep your marriage

strong and happy through the years

In his apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis used St. Paul’s “hymn to love,” taken from his First Letter to the

Corinthians, to offer several pieces of advice on how to keep one’s marriage strong throughout the years, based on true love.

“It is helpful to think more deeply about the meaning of this Pauline text and its relevance for the concrete situation of every family,” he explained. 1. Love is patient. For Francis, “being patient does not mean letting ourselves be constantly mistreated, tolerating physical aggression or allowing other people to use us.” […] “Love always has an aspect of deep compassion that leads to accepting the other person as part of this world, even when he or she acts differently than I would like.” “We encounter problems whenever we think that relationships or people ought to be perfect, or when we put ourselves at the center and expect things to turn out our way. Then everything makes us impatient, everything makes us react aggressively,” he warned.

2. Love is at the service of others. The pope underscored that, through his letter, St. Paul “wants to stress that love is more than a mere feeling. Rather, it should be understood along the lines of the Hebrew verb “to love”; it is “to do good.”

“As Saint Ignatius of Loyola said, ‘Love is shown more by deeds than by words.’ It thus shows its fruitfulness and allows us to experience the happiness of giving, the nobility and grandeur of spending ourselves unstintingly, without asking to be repaid, purely for the pleasure of giving and serving.”

3. Love is not jealous. “Love has no room for discomfiture at another person’s good fortune (cf. Acts 7:9; 17:5),” the pope emphasized, adding that “Envy is a form of sadness provoked by another’s prosperity; it shows that we are not concerned for the happiness of others but only with our own well-being.” “True love values the other person’s achievements. It does not see him or her as a threat. It frees us from the sour taste of envy. It recognizes that everyone has different gifts and a unique path in life.”

4. Love is not boastful. Francis emphasizes that “Those who love not only refrain from speaking too much about themselves, but are focused on others; they do not need to be the center of attention.” “Some think that they are important because they are more knowledgeable than others; they want to lord it over them. Yet what really makes us important is a love that understands, shows concern, and embraces the weak.”

5. Love is not rude. “To love is also to be gentle and thoughtful,” the Pope said, “and this indicates that “love is not rude or impolite; it is not harsh. Its actions, words and gestures are pleasing and not abrasive. Love abhors making others suffer.”

OF THE UNIVERSE En preparación para la lectura

de la siguiente semana

En este último domingo del Tiempo Ordinario. Se escuchará en las parroquias de los Estados Unidos y del mundo entero el canto de alabanza a Nuestro Se-ñor Jesucristo Rey del Universo. Seguido por el grito de los fieles: ¡Viva Cristo Rey! Con la respuesta que sale desde el fondo del corazón: ¡Que viva!

En este día, como cristianos, debemos de profundi-zar en el significado de vivir en los planes de Dios. ¿Cuál es el plan de Dios? Simplemente, es hacer posi-ble el reino de amor, justicia y paz aquí y ahora. La lectura de Daniel explica cómo Jesucristo es el porta-dor de este Reino, que nunca será destruido. El Apocalipsis, nos dice que Cristo Jesús es el Rey de Reyes.

El Evangelio, con respecto al Reino, narra lo sigui-ente: " Tú lo has dicho: yo soy Rey. Yo doy testi-monio de la verdad, y para esto he nacido y he venido al mundo. Todo el que está del lado de la verdad escu-cha mi voz" (Juan 18:37). Que confusión para Pilato porque Jesús no parecía Rey, ni actuaba como tal. Sin embargo, si confiesa que su Reino no pertenece a este mundo. Por eso da testimonio de la verdad. Su Reino es claro: luchar por el amor y la justicia. ¿Escuchamos esto? Vivimos y actuamos en este Reino o fura de él.

a Antífona de entrada de esta Solemnidad dice: "Digno es el Cordero que fue inmolado, de recibir el poder, la riqueza, la sabiduría, la fuerza y el honor. A él la gloria y el imperio por los siglos de los siglos." Amén. ¡Viva Cristo Rey! ¿Quién es Jesús para mí?

Oh Dios, te agradecemos por esta tierra, nues-

tro hogar; por el ancho cielo y el sol bendito,

por la salada mar y la corriente del agua, por las

inmensas colinas y los vientos que nunca

descansan, por los árboles y la hierba bajo los

pies. Nosotros te agradecemos por nuestros

sentidos con los que escuchamos el canto de

las aves, vemos el esplendor de los campos de

verano, saboreamos las frutas de otoño, nos

regocijamos al sentir la nieve y respiramos el

aliento de la primavera. Danos un corazón muy

abierto a toda esta belleza; y guarda nuestras

almas de ser tan ciegas que pasamos sin ver,

incluso cuando la zarza común está ardiendo

con tu gloria. Oh Dios,

creador nuestro, que

vives y reinas por los

siglos de los siglos.

Es cierto que muchos de nosotros nos vamos de vacaciones, pero hay alguien que nunca se va de vacaciones, y para el caso, nunca se irá de vacaciones. ¿Puedes adivinar quién puede ser? ¡El diablo! ¡Eso es correcto, el diablo! Trabaja 25 horas al día, ocho días a la semana, y 366 días cada año. De hecho, ¡es uno de los trabajadores más constantes del mundo! Padre de Mentiras y Asesino desde el Principio, Príncipe de este mundo, serpiente antigua, Lucifer, Satanás, demonio, diablo, todos estos son nombres para el diablo que se encuentran en los Sagrados Textos de la Escritura. Los santos han acuñado otros nombres que resaltan diferentes aspectos de su mala intención, aquí están algunos: Santo Tomás de Aquino llama al diablo: “El Tentador”. San Agustín lo llama: “Un perro enojado en una correa, ¡mejor mantén tu distancia!”. San Ignacio, que nos dio los Ejercicios Espirituales y las Reglas para el Discernimiento de los Espíritus

(en parte explicando la obra del diablo en nuestras vidas), llama al diablo: “El Enemigo de la naturaleza humana”.

En el día de la fiesta litúrgica de San Martín de Tours llama al diablo “Bloque“. Por último, San Pedro, en una de sus cartas, llama al diablo “Un León Rugiente que busca devorar a quien

puede”. ¡Estamos llamados a resistirlo!

Uno de los principales ataques del diablo en la sociedad moderna es lanzar sus misiles contra la institución más antigua establecida por Dios, la familia.

El matrimonio es la unión entre hombre y mujer, esposo y esposa, unidos en un Sacramento que llamamos Santo Matrimonio, abierto a tener hijos y a educarlos en el amor y el temor del Señor. El diablo sabe claramente que si puede trabajar para destruir la institución de la familia puede ayudar a desentrañar y destruir todo el tejido de la sociedad. Los historiadores nos dicen que una vez que la familia se desentraña, la sociedad se descompone rápidamente. Siendo éste el caso, ¿cuáles son algunas de las tentaciones típicas que el diablo lanza contra parejas para debilitar y eventualmente destruir a la familia? En este breve artículo presentaremos cinco de las más insidiosas pero comunes tentaciones que el Padre de la Mentira y el Asesino desde el Principio lanza contra la familia. 1. Vivir juntos. Unión libre. Cohabitación. Matrimonio de prueba. Hoy en día, si una pareja comienza a convivir en un matrimonio similar, casi se considera normal. Muchos jóvenes afirman: “Tenemos que probarlo primero, comprobar si tenemos química”. “Tenemos que ver si funciona, si somos compatibles”. Mientras tanto, están dispuestos a vivir fuera del estado de gracia, poniendo así en peligro su salvación eterna, sin mencionar el mal ejemplo que dan a los niños nacidos en estas circunstancias. Detrás de las escenas en este escenario no se encuentra otro que no sea el diablo, ¡el mentiroso! 2. Uniones del mismo sexo. A pesar de que las uniones homosexuales han sido legalizadas, eso no significa que sean correctas. Como en el caso del aborto que fue legalizado en los Estados Unidos en 1973, no significa que las uniones del mismo sexo legalizadas sean morales. Lo que es legal no siempre es moral. La Sagrada Escritura nos enseña que volviendo al Libro del Génesis que Dios creó al hombre ya la mujer, Adán y Eva, y dijo que un hombre debe dejar a su padre y a su madre para unirse a su esposa: “Lo que Dios ha unido, entre hombre y mujer, no deje que nadie se separe” (Génesis 3). Detrás de esta mentira de las uniones del mismo sexo está el diablo. 3. Adulterio. En el Sermón del Monte Jesús elevó el amor, la fidelidad y la pureza a un nivel mucho más elevado. Jesús dijo: “Tú lo has escuchado: No cometerás adulterio. Pero yo les digo que todo aquel que mire a una mujer con lujuria, ya ha cometido adulterio con ella en su corazón”(Mateo 5, 27-28). Una de las interpretaciones modernas de este pasaje, en relación con el Sacramento del Santo Matrimonio, es que aun cuando un hombre casado no cometa el acto de adulterio físico con otra mujer, todavía puede cometer adulterio de otras maneras, a través de sus ojos, en su mente y en las profundidades de su corazón. 4. No estar abierto a la vida. Esta atmósfera anticonceptiva y anti-vida es promovida y cultivada por el enemigo. Nuestro Dios es un Dios de vida. Además, el uso de anticonceptivos dañan enormemente la relación lejos de ser algo positivo. 5. Falta de comunicación. Debe decirse, a nivel social, que muchas parejas, desde el comienzo de su matrimonio, nunca aprendieron realmente a dialogar. Nunca aprendieron el importante arte de la comunicación. La comunicación es un arte con el que ninguno de nosotros nace. Debe ser aprendido. Por lo tanto, antes de llegar al día de pronunciar la fidelidad en los buenos y malos tiempos, en la salud y en la enfermedad, en las riquezas y en la pobreza, hasta que la muerte nos separe, las parejas deben ser conscientes de la extrema necesidad de comunicarse, del arte de la comunicación, y hacer todo en su poder para nunca renunciar a esforzarse por mejorar en sus habilidades de comunicación. Volvamos a la Sagrada Familia: San José, María y Jesús, rogamos su intercesión ayudándonos a ser conscientes de los astuciosos ataques del diablo, ayúdanos a rechazar sus tentaciones y a fomentar todo lo puro, noble y digno de alabanza.
