known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD). Our purpose is to improve the lives for everyone

affected by these diseases. Crohns and Colitis are lifelong and debilitating conditions that affect over

300,000 people in the UK with nearly half of those being diagnosed each year under the age of 29.

support and services and, ultimately, find a cure.

As we go through a period of positive transformation and growth, we now have an opportunity for an

experienced HR Business Partner. This is a truly varied and key role for the organisation. The

successful candidate will need to flex across the different HR disciplines, presenting pragmatic,

enabling HR and OD solutions.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience of advising managers on employment

law related matters and hold a relevant professional HR qualification. You will also have the ability to

manage change programmes, adopting OD methodologies to bring about culture change.

HR Business Partner

Grade: B Reporting to: Director of People and Organisational Development

Overall purpose

The purpose of this role is to build exceptional people skills across our organisation and a culture of

high performance and agility. This position will be responsible for overseeing the day to day broad

range of HR services

1. HR Advice and Guidance

Provide professional and timely advice and guidance to staff and line managers on a range

of employee relations issues and change management;

Develop, review and implement forward thinking HR policies, procedures and guidance

documents, ensuring legal compliance and best practice;

Ensure alignment and standardisation across our HR policies, paying attention to language

and brand and the culture this can create; and

Achieve standardisation of our contracts and terms and conditions.

2. Resourcing

Provide advice and guidance to managers on recruitment best practice, raising awareness

of possible future vacancies to help inform recruitment campaigns to accomplish the best

outcomes and make the best use of our resources;

Develop innovative recruitment practice which optimises quality applications and minimizes

reliance on agencies and professional searches;

Work closely with finance to ensure that resourcing and recruitment activity occurs within

the financial envelope agreed;

1. Ensure job packs, adverts and job descriptions are of a suitable standard and that they

engage, excite and inspire applications;

Develop our shortlisting process so it is fair, equitable and realistic for hiring managers; and

Develop Key Performance Indicators with directors and the HR Assistant so there is clarity

regarding recruitment timelines and deliverables.

3. Onboarding

Develop Key Performance Indicators with directors and the HR Assistant so that there is

clarity regarding deadlines for issuing contract documentation;

Develop clear onboarding pathways for new employees, managers and directors, developing

standard practice and moving elements of this online;

Working with the Volunteer Development Manager, identify which elements of the new

onboarding pathways may be of benefit to our Volunteer community; and

Ensure all activities in relation to probationary reviews are conducted appropriately and

within agree timeframes.

4. Learning and Development

Support managers to have strength-based conversations with colleagues which focus on

investing and developing their teams and individuals within them;

Be the custodian of the Performance Appraisal processes, modernising our approach and

aligning it with our Pay Policy and our commitment to developing and retaining our People;

Provide advice and guidance on the most appropriate development for individuals and

teams;

Facilitate the use of online learning and the development of an online learning platform;

Procure specialist learning and development from external third parties when business

needs determine; and

Develop a culture of appreciative enquiry, peer to peer learning and mentoring, and sharing

lessons learnt.

5. Organisational Development

Continually embed our organisational values of Ambitious, Compassionate and Stronger

Together in all HR driven activities and more broadly across organisational initiatives;

Develop and promote equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation, embedding

exemplary behaviours into day to day practice

Monitor shifts in staff engagement through regular proactive communications with staff e.g.

surveys and consultations;

Lead cultural initiatives e.g. conferences and team development days with clear,

measurable outcomes

Work with the Director of People and Organisational Development to secure the move to the

new office location (Hatfield). In doing so, encourage the organisation to move to more agile

working practices and embrace new technology.

Input into the creation of key people metrics

Organisational Leadership

As a member of the Joint Leadership Team, you will be expected to provide leadership across

the organisation. In doing so, you will be expected to actively participate in manager activities

and initiatives and role model the behaviours required from a Crohns and Colitis Manager.

This role has no direct line reports, but will be responsible for providing support and day to

day guidance and development of the HR Assistant.

The purpose of this job description is to focus attention on the most important aspects of the jobholder’s role. It is not intended to be a

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Experience

CIPD qualified, you will have successfully held a HRBP / Advisor role. You will have a firm

understanding of current employment legislation and HR best practice and experience of writing and

implementing HR policy.

Skills: You Will

Have experience of successfully managing multiple projects and working to tight deadlines;

Have a natural curiosity that encourages the exploration of data which creates the business case

for action and which underpins an outcome orientated approach;

Lead and engage individual who demonstrates the organisation’s values building instant credibility

and maintaining relationships at all levels across the Charity;

Be able to successfully balance the needs of the individual (compassion) with the operational and

ambitious needs of the organisation;

Have experience of supporting and developing line managers through change;

Be able to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion, sensitivity, diplomacy and tact;

Have excellent presentation and written communication skills;

Be able to coach and develop others

Salary

A competitive salary that is reviewed annually. Our annual salary review takes into account a number of

factors, including an individual’s contribution and performance against objectives.

New recruits are automatically enrolled into our Group Personal Pension Plan. We offer two levels of

contribution:

Hours of work

The standard working week at Crohn’s and Colitis UK is 35 hours, start, and finish times can be agreed

between the employee and their manager. In addition, a number of roles are undertaken on a part-time

basis.

Holiday entitlement

The basic holiday entitlement is 25 days leave per year, increasing by one day for each year’s service up

to a maximum of 5 days, giving a total of 30 days in addition the 8 bank holiday days. The holiday year

runs from January to December each year.

Crohn’s and Colitis UK is committed to the training and development of its employees. We have a

performance review and development scheme designed to help all staff to develop in their roles.

Financial support and/or study leave may be offered to individuals who are studying for professional

qualifications.

Season ticket loans

We appreciate that travel to and from work can be expensive and that buying annual tickets can mean

savings for our employees. We therefore offer an interest free loan for season tickets, repaid directly from

salary each month.

Our office

Our informal, open plan office space has been designed to create a vibrant and productive workspace for

all our staff. Our office is less than a 20-minute train ride from London St Pancras followed by a short five

minute walk from the station. A free secure entry-controlled car park is available to staff members, along

with cycle racks for the more energetic. We will be relocating to Hatfield (AL 10) mid July 2018.
