36th Annual CENTRAL PA JAZZ FESTIVAL August 11-15, 2016

. CENTRAL PA JAZZ FESTIVAL REPORT:

Thurs., Aug 11: Kickoff Concert JazzMobile at Strawberry Square and performances in various Harrisburg City sites from noon to 5:30p.m. featuring our own - after playing the Central PA Friends of Jazz Youth Bandopening concert in Strawberry Square’s Atrium (noon - 1pm) the band will be making stops on the reborn JazzMobile at the Broad St. Market and other venues in Harrisburg - the last stop on Thursday will be at the dock of The Pride of the Susquehanna prior to the evening’s Jazz Cruise. The CPFJ Youth Band, directed by veteran jazz master Ron Waters, is comprised of students aged 8 - 18 from various Central PA schools who are interested in learning to improvise. Our Youth Band is open to all area students with no tuition fees and no audition for membership - students need only a desire to learn the art of improvisation and have a basic understanding of their instruments. The Friends of Jazz hosted JazzMobile performances over 20 years ago during the summer months and we are happy to be resurrecting this event. A flatbed truck with band equipment onboard serves as the vehicle for these performances. The Youth Band plays on the parked truck in public venues, senior homes, schools, and parks to the delight of our area’s residents. CPFJ thanks the Brenner Family of Car Dealerships for donating the truck for this novel civic event.

Riverboat Jazz Cruise: This year’s Jazz Cruise, part of the regular Thursday Jazzin’ on the Pridesummer programming hosted by the Riverboat Society & the Central PA Friends of Jazz, features a fantastic jazz duo of highly acclaimed musicians from Philadelphia - (violinist) and Diane Monroe(pianist) The Pride of the Susquehanna is docked at City Island, Hbg. with ample Tom Lawton. parking on the Island (there is no Senators game on this evening).
