Creation of the project's Field Weld Data Sheets provides one of the few opportunities where the design information on a variety of documents may be checked against one and other in order to verify the accuracy of all. In many cases, minor revisions have been made to the project's engineering selection that do not always get captured on the fabrication and erection drawings. Time spent on this process could save the department from costly back charges from the site later.

Completion of Selection:
Use the following instructions to obtain the required input data from the sources listed above.
This input is only applicable for piping located within the Boiler Piping (BP). See Jurisdiction input.
Note: When "Radiation" is selected for a particular field weld, "Furnace Gases" must also be selected.
Creation of the project's Field Weld Data Sheets provides one of the few opportunities where the design information on a variety of documents may be checked against one and other in order to verify the accuracy of all. In many cases, minor revisions have been made to the project's engineering selection that do not always get captured on the fabrication and erection drawings. Time spent on this process could save the department from costly back charges from the site later.
One way to begin the process of creating the project's Field Weld Data Sheets is to identify the location of each field weld point that occurs along the water / steam path as depicted on the Piping and Instrumentation Diagram for each pressure level (xxxxx-1D001x series) starting with the HP system. Locate the piping isometrics and pressure part arrangement drawings that are associated with each section of the HRSG as the water / steam path is followed.
Confirm the information that is contained on each piping isometric and pressure part arrangement. Do this by comparing it against the information shown on the project's engineering selection sheets (i.e. contract Item 9.01 - Design Criteria for Piping and Nozzles, contract Item 10.01 - Valve List, contract Item 11.01 - Instrument List) and any drawings which may contain detailed views of the pipe section in question. Be sure to confirm thatthe weld preps match between the upstream and downstream sections of pipe / equipment. Confirm the interface data contained on Supplier drawings for large bore valves and instruments located at field weld junctions.
Each weld is described by two rows of inputs. Each weld must be listed individually with its own two rows of inputs and its own unique "Weld No.". This means that when there are multiple welds between two pieces of equipment, such as an inlet manifold and a lower header, that each of these welds must be listed separately. Inputs are shown in BLUE. Values in black are calculated.
Radiation - Identify whether or not the field weld (FW) is in the direct line of sight of a burner flame or other direct furnace radiant heat source (i.e. within 5 tube rows of the flame or heat source) by using the embedded drop down box to select either "X" or (Empty). The user may also type in a value as long as it corresponds to one of the values contained in the drop down box. (Empty) corresponds to "Delete" on the computer keyboard.
Furnace Gases - Identify whether or not the field weld (FW) is exposed to furnace (flue) gases in excess of 850 deg. F (455 deg. C) by using the embedded drop down box to select either "X" or (Empty). The user may also type in a value as long as it corresponds to one of the values contained in the drop down box. (Empty) corresponds to "Delete" on the computer keyboard.
Water or Steam - Use the embedded drop down box to select either "W" for water or "S" for steam as the fluid within the piping at the location of the field weld. The user may also type in a value as long as it corresponds to one of the values contained in the drop down box.
Rev. - When any changes are made to the data for the field weld, use this cell to display the revision number in which the changes were made. Leave blank for Revision 00 - initial issue.
Weld No. - Use this cell to assign each field weld a unique identification number. For initial issue, number the field welds sequentially. If additional welds are required in future revisions, assign them a new, unique Weld No. but do not renumber existing welds.
Location of Weld - For this input, there are two rows for each field weld. Use the first row to describe and identify the equipment (pipe, valve, instrument, etc.) located on the upstream side of the field weld. Use the second row to describe and identify the equipment located on the downstream side of the field weld. Be sure to include the tag / piece / part number for the equipment that is contained on the AP drawings and documents being used as reference.

Location of Weld - For this input, there are two rows for each field weld. Use the first row to describe and identify the equipment (pipe, valve, instrument, etc.) located on the upstream side of the field weld. Use the second row to describe and identify the equipment located on the downstream side of the field weld. Be sure to include the tag / piece / part number for the equipment that is contained on the AP drawings and documents being used as reference.
Actual Outside Diameter - For this input, enter the actual Outside Diameter of the pipe / equipment at the location of the field weld. This input may be obtained from the project's Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (xxxxx-1D001x series) and should be checked against the data presented on contract Item 9.01 - Design Criteria for Piping and Nozzles, contract Item 10.01 - Valve List, the contract piping isometric and arrangement drawings and the contract equipment drawings as applicable.
Thickness @ Weld - For this input, enter the average wall thickness (AWT) for the pipe at the location of the field weld unless the pipe is prepped to another, known wall thickness (i.e. B16.25 Fig. 2c or 3c). This input may be obtained from the project's Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (xxxxx-1D001x series) and should be checked against the data presented on contract Item 9.01 - Design Criteria for Piping and Nozzles, contract Item 10.01 - Valve List, the contract piping isometric and arrangement drawings and the contract equipment drawings as applicable.
Material Selection - For this input there are two rows for each field weld. Use the embedded drop down boxes to select the type of material for the pipe / equipment located on the each side of the field weld. Use the first row for the upstream side and the second row for the downstream side of the field weld. This input may be obtained from the project's Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (xxxxx-1D001x series) and should be checked against the data presented on contract Item 9.01 - Design Criteria for Piping and Nozzles, contract Item 10.01 - Valve List, the contract piping isometric and arrangement drawings and the contract equipment drawings as applicable.
Jurisdiction - BP / BEP / NBEP - Use the embedded drop down boxes to identify the ASME Code Jurisdiction that applies at the location of the field weld. This information is displayed on the project's Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (xxxxx-1D001x series). One of the options, BP for Boiler Piping, BEP for Boiler External Piping and NBEP for Non-Boiler External Piping, must be selected for each field weld.
The applicable jurisdiction may be obtained from the project's Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (xxxxx-1D001x series) and should be checked against the data presented on contract Item 9.01 - Design Criteria for Piping and Nozzles, contract Item 10.01 - Valve List, the contract piping isometric and arrangement drawings and the contract equipment drawings as applicable. At transition points, where two jurisdictions meet, use the lesser conditions. This means NBEP first, followed by BEP and then BP.
Design Temperature (&) Pressure - For this input, there are two rows for each field weld. On the first row, input the design temperature at the location of the field weld. On the second row, input the design pressure at the location of the field weld. This input may be obtained from the project's Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (xxxxx-1D001x series) and should be checked against the data presented on contract Item 9.01 - Design Criteria for Piping and Nozzles, contract Item 10.01 - Valve List, the contract piping isometric and arrangement drawings and the contract equipment drawings as applicable. At transition points where the design temperature and / or pressure changes, use the lower conditions of the two parts being joined.
Reference Drawings - For this input, there are two rows for each field weld. Use this input to identify the best drawing that depicts the location of each field weld. Use the first row for the upstream side and the second row for the downstream side of the field weld. Make sure that the drawing selected will be furnished to the site as an "Erection" drawing by confirming the presence of "E" outside the lower corner of the title block to the right of the drawing and revision numbers.
Additional References - Use this space to identify any additional drawings which may have been referred to while completing work on each field weld. This information is internal only and will not be included on the printed copy but will be useful to those who must return to this document to make revisions or answer questions.

This information is internal only and will not be included on the printed copy but will be useful to those who must return to this document to make revisions or answer questions.
The "Cover Sheet" worksheet has been provided as a central location for the Notes and Revision Log that need to be included with the Field Weld Data Sheets.
Review the information contained on this worksheet and make any revisions necessary to reflect the project specific information. Be sure and confirm the total number of units shown in Note #1 and revise the project name included in the sheet's title block.
For all selection sheet worksheets edit the project information contained in the sheet headers to correctly display the specific contract name, number and date.
WARNING - It is NOT permissible to separate the individual worksheets that make up this particular standard file because the worksheets contain embedded cell links or formula references to areas outside of their own worksheets. Failure to follow these procedures will result in removal or incorrect reference to embedded cell links and formulas.
Prepare this file for the contact files by hiding all of the worksheets / tabs from view except the appropriate cover and selection sheet tabs. Do this by selecting Format, Sheet, Hide from the Excel menu bar. The hidden worksheets must not be deleted as this will remove embedded cell links and formula references.
Rename the files in the contract directory to the following format: XXXXX-AA.AA-BB.YYY, where XXXXX is the five digit contract number, AA.AA is the item number, BB is the revision number (2 digits required for the Library) and YYY is the file extension (xls for Excel, doc for Word, etc...).
When revising the selection sheets, be sure to mark revised data with a revision triangle, and include a description of the changes in the Revision Log at the bottom of the cover sheet. Remember to adjust the print area of the active sheet to ensure that the Revision Log is included on the printed copy.
Change Codes for use in the Revision Log are included in HRSG Standard Document No. 0.505 - Change Codes.
All required inputs are shown in blue. All other cells are calculated by the worksheet.
Several input items on the worksheets contained in this file are required to be selected from drop down menus. If a problem occurs with the calculations, confirm that the input for these items has been properly selected using the drop down menus.
Embedded formulas contained in the "NDE" (Non-Destructive Examination) column are based on the ASME Section I, Table PW-11 and ASME B31.1, Table 136.4.
Upper and Lower Vestibule Areas are not considered exposed to furnace gases. This is supported by Interpretation I-86-28 shown below.

PW-41.1.2 and PW-41.1.3 provide exemptions from radiography of circumferential welded joints for certain sizes of pipe and tubing in contact with furnace gases. Does "furnace gases" refer to those gases which contribute heat to the boiler?
