CrownGate is 25!Alex Isaacs writes:- I had an email from Ellie O'Shea who is involved with the 25th anniversary celebrations of The CrowngateShopping Centre...

If anyone has any pictures or stories taken of the centre over the 25 years they need them for use on their timeline etc by theend of July. Full credit would be given to the authors.

If you can help, please email directly to Ellie O'Shea [email protected] or to [email protected]

Ruth adds: We’ve just had a contact via our Facebook page to buy one of the prints in the current CrownGate exhibition, so it’sworth taking part when Paul next refreshes the exhibition!

Members’ news and imagesLes Bailey says:- I spent a couple of hours in Bristol last week, photographing the Second Severn Crossing.  Not the best weather or tide;the tide runs in quite quickly though, so by the time I left, around 15:30, the river had become quite full, and the haze had disappeared alittle.  You'll see that from the infra-red images, which I shot later in the afternoon.  High tide was about 17:30 I think.  It's an interestingplace though, the 'works' shot (bottom right) could be nice.  Plenty of smoke or steam coming off earlier in the day, but almost finishedby the time I got there mid-afternoon.  Would be nice at night for the bridge and the area. I've since discovered that 'the works' is infact Seabank Power Station, a 1,145 MW gas-fired power station at Hallen Marsh in Bristol.  Worth getting closer.

I'd wanted to photograph the bridge for perhaps 20+ years, since I'd worked loosely with the designer, Ron Weeks.  Ron, an architect andPartner with the Percy Thomas Partnership (PTP), also designed Bristol Cathedral, so he has a bit of an affinity with the city.  I worked withPTP during the design and construction of The International Convention Centre project in Birmingham, at roughly the same time as thebridge was built.   PTP went into administration in 2004, following the cancellation of a PFI project for the MoD.  One of the practice'slast buildings was the Wales Millennium Centre, for which the practice was awarded a Gold Medal for Architecture, to join a host of otherawards - before things went wrong.

Gill and I recently had a lovely walk in Grafton Wood (near Grafton Flyford Church, just east of Crowle).  Here are some infrared images

from me which also feature the nearby 16th / 17th century timber-framed house with its adjacent pond and the approach over meadowsto the wood itself.  Grafton Wood is managed by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.  Besides being tranquil and very attractive, it's home tothe only colony of brown hairstreak butterflies in the Midlands.
