    OVERVIEW

    In MacKiev 3D Atlas you can view a fascinating 3D spinning globe. Turn on the space elementsand the Day/Night option, download clouds from the Internet and enjoy a view of the Earth asif you were looking at it from a space ship.

    You can also switch to the map view and zoom in to an enormous degree. Whats more, youcan effortlessly locate cities on the globe or map, calculate the distance between anylocations, and create your own routes or view samples, such as "Around the World in 80Days".

    MacKiev 3D Atlas also allows you to see all available cities on the globe or map and display

    general information and weather forecasts for selected cities.

    VIEWINGTHE GLOBEOR MAP

    Using the View Control tools, you can switch between the globe and map.

    To switch between views, simply click the Globe or Map control.

    Using the Navigation Map, you can quickly jump to any area on the globe or map.

    In the Globe view, click anywhere on the Navigation Mapand the globe smoothly rotates to show the area you clickedin the center of the screen.

    In the Map view, click anywhere on the Navigation Mapand the map smoothly scrolls to show the area you clicked in

    the center of the screen. A transparent rectangle in theNavigation Map marks the area currently displayed in theview area. You can drag the rectangle across the Navigation Map to change the portion of themap that appears in the Main View area.

    Using the Spin Control tool, you can rotate the globe or move the map.

    To rotate the globe or move the map, click the left, right, top or bottom button ofthe Spin Control.

    To stop the globe or map moving, click the center button of the Spin Control.

    Using Zoom mode,

    you can easily enlarge or reduce the view of the globe or map.

    To zoom the view:

    1.

    Switch to Zoom mode by clicking the Zoom mode button.

    2.

    Do one of the following:

    To zoom in,

    click an area on the globe or map. The location that is clicked moves to

    the center of the main view area. You can also drag the outline of an area you want tozoom in to.

    To zoom out,

    click an area on the globe or map while pressing the Option

    key.

    TIP: You can also zoom in or out using the Zoom slider.

    Using Move mode, you can easily rotate the globe or move the map.

    To rotate the globe or move the map:

    Click the Move Mode button to turn the Move mode on, and drag the globe or map.

    Using Full Screen mode, you can make the globe or map to fill the entire window.

    To switch to Full Screen mode choose Full Screen Mode

    from the View

    menu. The RemoteControl tool that appears allows you to change the main view options.

    While in the Full Screen mode, you can open the Remote Controldrawer to change the view options described in the sectionbelow.

    While in the globe view, you can show or hide the sun, moon, and stars. Press theblack triangle next to the Space Elements icon and, from the pop-up menu thatappears, choose a space element you want turn on or off. Alternatively, you canchoose to see some or all space elements using the Space Elements submenu in theView menu.

    You can view the real day and night shadow on the globe and map. Click the Day/Nighticon to turn this feature on or off. You can change the Day/Night settings in theMacKiev 3D Atlas Settings drawer. For more information, see Changing 3D AtlasSettings.

    Clicking the Grid icon you can turn the grid on or off. Press the black triangle next tothe Grid icon and, from the pop-up menu that appears, choose 5, 10, 20, or Autogrid settings. If you choose the Auto option, the grid will automatically scale when youzoom the view in or out.

    In MacKievs 3D Weather Globe and Atlas you can download cloud formations from theInternet. You can choose to see the current position of clouds above the Earth, or theanimation showing how the clouds moved during last three days. Simply press theblack triangle next to Clouds icon and choose the option you want from the pop-upmenu that appears.

    TIP: Choose Smooth 3 Day Animation option to see the animation in high quality.

    You can view a countrys borders on the globe and map. Click the Countries icon toturn the Countries mode on and position the pointer over the globe or map. With thisoption turned on, you can also double-click the highlighted country to zoom it in andfly to that part of the map.

    You can choose to display the nearest city name when you move the cursor over theglobe or map. To do so, click the Nearest City icon to turn the Nearest City mode on.

    Click the All Cities icon to show all cities available in MacKiev 3D Atlas database. Citieswill be displayed as yellow dots on the map or globe.

    You can view timezones on the globe and map. Click the Timezones icon to turn theTimezones mode on and position the pointer over the globe or map.

    Click the Weather icon to open the Weather palette, where you can see the currentweather conditions of the selected city. For more information on this palette, seeDisplaying Weather Information.

    Using the Cities List,

    you can easily locate any of the 10,000 cities available in the MacKiev3D Atlas.

    To find the cityyou want, type its name in the Search field. For example, you can type"Auckland" to find the city, or "New Zealand" to get a list of all the cities in New Zealand.

    TIP: Sometimes you need to type only the first few letters of the city or country name.Typing "Cupe", for example, is enough to find Cupertino.

    When the city you are looking for appears in the Cities list, click to select it and, if necessary,the globe will rotate to show you the city.

    Using the Distance Calculator,

    you can find the distance between any locations on the globeor map.

    To calculate the distance between cities, do one of the following:

    Click the checkbox

    next to each city name you want toadd to Distance Calculator.

    Drag selected cities to the Distance Calculator list.

    Drag the selected cities to the globe or map.

    TIP:

    In the Distance Calculator list, you can change theorder of the cities by dragging them.

    As soon as you add more then one city to the Distance Calculator, the distance betweenthem is automatically calculated.

    Using Route mode

    , you can create your own routes on the globe or map, or view samples,such as "Around the World in 80 Days".

    To create a Route:

    1.

    Switch to Route mode by clicking the Route mode button.

    2.

    Add locations to the route by:

    Clicking anywhere on the globe or map (the corresponding coordinates appear)

    Dragging cities from the Cities list to the globe or map

    Clicking the checkbox

    next to each city name you want to add to the route

    TIP:As soon as you add more than one city to the route, the distance between themappears in the Distance Calculator list and the cities on the route will be connectedvisually with a connecting line.

    To view route samples:

    Open the Route menu and choose the route you want to view from the Samplessubmenu.

    Using the Distance Calculator controls, its easy to work with routes:

    Load

    a previously saved route by clicking the Load button. In the dialog that appears,navigate to the route you want to load and click the Load button.

    Save

    your route by clicking the Save button, select a location for the route in the dialogthat appears, and click the Save button.

    Clear

    the Distance Calculator list by clicking the Clear button.

    You can also:

    Undo

    all changes you have made to a previously saved route by choosing Revert toSaved from the Route menu.

    Delete

    cities from the route by selecting them and pressing the Delete key.

    Using Weather palette,

    you can see todays weather in the selected city and seven dayforecast (if you are connected to the Internet). You can also view the country and region of theselected city, current date and weekday, GTM offset, and time zone.

    To open Weather palette, do one of the following:

    Click the Weather icon.

    Choose Show Weather Palette

    from the Weather

    menu.

    TIP: To add a city or cities to the Weather palette, drag the cityyou want from the Cities List to the palette.

    You can specify what information appears by clicking the blacktriangle in the palette title bar and choosing commands from thepop-up menu so that a checkmark appears next to them. To hidethe information you don't need anymore, choose a commandagain so that the checkmark disappears.

    TIP: You can also changethe palette layout by clicking the roundgreen button in the title bar.

    The Weather palette is always visible, even if you switch to anyother application.

    Using City Weather Details palette, you can see more detailed information about weatherconditions in the selected city and expanded forecast if you are connected to the Internet. Youcan also view city name, region, current date and time, time zone, and coordinates of theselected city.

    To open the City Weather Details palette, do one of the following:

    Choose City Weather Details from the View menu.

    Double-click a city in the Cities list.

    To see current weather conditions and an expanded forecast, simply click the CurrentConditions or Expanded Forecast disclosure triangle.

    NOTE:You must be connected to the Internet to download weather information.

    CHANGING 3D ATLAS SETTINGS

    Using MacKiev 3D Atlas preferences, you can set MacKiev 3D Atlas, to meet yourindividual requirements. Choose Preferences from the MacKiev 3D Atlas menu to open thePreferences dialog, where you can set the following options:

    Online Settings

    Use online services - if this option is turned on, MacKiev 3D Atlas will, when necessary,download clouds and weather information from the Internet.

    Measurement Units

    Use a 24-hour clock - Select this option if you want to use 24-hour clock for the Timeslider in the Settings drawer.

    Use metric units - select this option if you want to use metric units for measuringdistances in MacKiev 3D Atlas.

    Clouds Settings

    Level of details - choose the level of clouds detail that will be downloaded from theInternet. Note that the higher quality you choose, the longer it will take to download.

    Animation Speed - drag this slider to change the animation speed for the cloudformations.

    Weather Palette

    Opacity - drag the slider to set the desired transparency for the Weather palette.

    Using the Settings drawer, you can adjust your copy of MacKiev 3D Atlas.

    Click the Settings icon to open the Settings drawer, where you can do the following:

    Globe Transparency - drag this slider to set the desired transparency of the globe.

    Spinning Speed - drag this slider to set the spinning speed of the globe or map.

    Use specific time - select this checkbox if you want to see the day and night shadowfor a specific time. Click the day, month or year in the field below this checkbox and setthe date using the up and down arrows. You can also move the slider to set the desiredtime.

    Location Markers - drag this slider specify the size of pushpins which mark locationsyou select on the globe or map.

    Use metric units - select this option if you want to use metric units for measuringdistances in MacKiev 3D Atlas.

    Show Apple Stores - select this option to see the location of the Apple Stores on themap or globe. Each Apple Store will be marked on the map or globe with apples.

    Weather Palette Transparency - drag this slider to set the desired transparency forthe Weather palette.

    PRINTING

    Using printing capabilities of MacKiev 3D Atlas you can print maps, clouds, route lines,grids, cities, and so on. Choose Print from the File menu. The Print dialog that appears offersa variety of printing options:

    Print map - Print the map that is currently in view.

    Print clouds - Print the clouds over the map.

    Print day/night separator - Print the day-and-night view.

    Route locations on map - Print the locations that are marked on the map.

    Route lines - Print the route lines between locations.

    Location names - Print the location names on the map.

    Print grid - Print the grid on the map.

    Print country borders - Print all the country borders.

    Print country names - Print the names of the countries on the map.

    Print all cities - Print all the cities.

    Distance calculator list - Print the Distance Calculator list as a table. This includes thelocations marked on the map, the distances between them, and the total distance.

    Print Apple stores - Print the location of all Apple stores on the map.

    TIP:You can print all these elements even if the corresponding special modes (such as Day/night, Grid, and so on) are not turned on in the application.
