INTRODUCTION

Learn how to make your flat triangles come alive and in 3D!

In this tutorial, you’ll be using Peyote Stitch in making a triangle shape in 3D.You can use the triangles as charms, earrings and as components for necklaces and bracelets. Use your imagination, play with colors of beads and you can come up with

beautiful patterns for a 3D triangle.

The tutorial is catered for intermediate students. Basic knowledge of Peyote Stitch is required to fully understand the tutorial.

It has in-depth instructions and ultra-clear, close-up photos at each step. Additionally, you can ask me question you have on the tutorial.

No more getting stuck and frustrated on a confusing or just plain inaccurate pattern.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS NEEDED:

Materials Needed11/0 seed beads in 2 colors2 ear wiresBeading thread

Tools NeededScissors2 Beading Needles size 12

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1:String 18 seed beads and form a circle by passing the thread back thru the 1st bead. Position the beads at the center of the thread.

 

Diagram below shows the number of beads and thread passing thru the beads.

  

Step 2: Peyote Stitch

Do a Peyote Stitch. Pick up a bead, skip the 2nd bead shown in circle and pass thru the 3rd bead. Repeat this step 8 times until you complete the circle and your thread is coming out of the 1st bead again.

 

Diagram below shows a complete round of weaving Peyote Stitch for Step 2.

 

On this diagram, the red circles are the newly added beads. As you weave, you will see that the new beads are placed on top of a bead. We will call them "up beads." 

The previous round will be the "down beads." Finishing the round your thread should come out a  down bead.

 

After completing the round your beadwork should be at this stage. Your thread is coming out a down bead shown in red circle.

  

Step 3: Step up

Perform a "step up" so your thread is in position to start another round. To do "step up" simply pass the thread into the next "up bead" shown in circle without adding a bead.

 

Step 4: Weaving corner beadsAfter "step up" string 2 beads, skip a bead and pass the next bead.

  

Pull the thread. The red circle shows the 2 beads added.  As triangles have 3 corners this will be 1 corner beads.

 

Step 5: Weaving your side beadsCreate your side beads by weaving Peyote Stitch 2x. Pick up a bead, skip a bead and pass the next bead. Circle shows your 1st bead added.

 

Do 1 more Peyote Stitch.

 

Circles show your corner beads, 1st & 2nd beads added.

 

Step 6:

Repeat Step 4 & 5 (2x) and you will arrive at this stage of your beadwork. You now have 3 corner beads in circles and side beads in brackets.

 

Step 7:Do a "step up" (refer to Step 3) so your thread is in position to start another round.

 

Step 8:

Add another corner beads by picking up 2 beads and passing the thread into the next bead from the previous corner bead.

 

Step 9:Create your side beads like in Step 5, but this time, do Peyote Stitch 3x so you will have 3 beads added.

 

Red circles show 3 beads added and your thread is coming out again your corner beads.

 

Step 10:Repeat Step 8 & 9 (2x) and you should arrive at this stage of your beadwork. Notice with even tension your beadwork is forming into a triangle. Repeat the same Peyote Stitch  pattern of adding your corner beads and side beads until you reach your desired pattern width for your triangle. In this tutorial, I weaved 4 rounds of Peyote Stitch to add my corner beads and side beads. Note:Do not forget to do a 'step up" after completing a round of Peyote Stitch.

Step 11:

Now, I have reached the pattern width I want for my triangle. I also did my "step up" and is now ready for another round.

 

Step 12:With the same weaving pattern I now weaved 1 more round of Peyote Stitch using turquoise for my corner beads and white for my side beads.

 

Here I did my "step up" and is now ready to start another round.

 

Here I have completed a 2nd round with white beads and did my "step up."

 

Step 13:

I have now reached my desired width for my triangle and will weave my final round to add a point row. This time pick up 1 bead for the corner beads as your point row.

 

Then add your side beads.

 

Here I have completed my final round. At this stage, this looks like a flat triangle. Pass the thread back thru several beads, tie knots and cut off excess thread.

  Step 14:To make the triangle 3D, flip your beadwork like so and prepare to weave the other side.

 

Step 15:

Repeat Step 4 & 5 for your 1st round of Peyote Stitch. Then continue adding rounds of Peyote Stitch, matching the number of rounds on the 1st side,but omitting the final round with the point row. Basically, you are just repeating how you weaved the 1st side. Remember, do not forget to "step up" after you complete a round.

 

On this image I have weaved 4 rounds of Peyote Stitch using turquoise, matching the 1st side and is now ready to weave the white beads.

 

Step 16:

Weave 2 rounds of Peyote Stitch using turquoise for the corner beads and white for the side beads and do your "step up." On this image, I have completed 2 rounds of Peyote Stitch with white beads. Now I have omitted beading the final round with the point row. You will notice that the 1st side of the triangle has an additional round with the point row.

 

This is how it should look like on side view. You are now ready to zip up your beaded triangle and make it 3D.

 

Step 17:

After your "step up" weave in zigzag direction. Pass the thread into your point row, the turquoise bead you added on your corner beads on Step 13.

 

Then come down and weave in zigzag direction. Pass the thread into a corner bead. (See arrow direction.)

 

Pull the thread tight and you should see that both sides of the triangle are now sharing 1 point row.

 

Step 18:Now zip up the side beads. Weave in zigzag direction.

 

This is how it should look like after zipping up. Continue weaving in zigzag direction, going all the way around, zipping up your corner beads, and point row, and side beads. When finished zipping up secure the thread.

 

Voila! Your 3D beaded triangle. You can use this as charms and pendants or component for bracelets and necklaces.

 

Step 19: Creating a bailCut an extra thread. Find the center of the triangle and pass the thread.

 

Cross both threads into a white bead.

 

Repeat previous step until you have 7 beads.

 

Then find the center of the triangle on the other side and cross both threads. Pull the thread. Before cutting off excess thread, pass the thread back thru the beads to make the bail sturdy.

 

Now you have a bail  to attach your ear wire.
