    TypesofDTVThereare many qualitylevelsofdigitaltelevisionprogramming:

    1. Standard-Definition TV (SDTV)

SDTV is the basic level ofquality display and resolution forboth analog anddigital broadcast formats. Transmission of SDTV may be in either thetraditional (4:3) orwidescreen (16:9) format.

    2.Enhanced-Definition TV (EDTV)

EDTV is a step up from analog television. EDTV comes in 480p widescreen(16:9) or traditional (4:3) format and provides better picture quality than

SDTV, but not as high as HDTV.3.High-Definition TV (HDTV)

HDTV in widescreen format (16:9) provides the highest resolution andpicture quality of all digital broadcast formats. Combined with digitallyenhanced sound technology, HDTV sets new standards for sound andpicture quality in television.

High Definition Television A current analog TV picture is made up of horizontal lines on the picture screen; an

HDTV picture can have more than twice as many lines, allowing for stunning picturedetail. HDTV has an impressive 720 progressive scanning (1280x720 pixels) or 1080interlaced (1920x1080 pixels) lines.

HDTV uses a widescreen format. ( screen width : screen height )

Analog television has an aspect ratio of 4:3. The aspect ratio ofHDTV is 16:9, similarto a movie theater screen.

    HDTV Provides high-resolution programming.

HDTV programs can include Dolby Digital surround sound, the same digital soundsystem used in many movie theaters and DVDs.

HDTV uses the same amount of bandwidth as the current analog system, but withHDTV about six times more information is transmitted. This capability translates tomuch betterquality in picture and sound.

    y Binocular parallax

It defers to the ability of the eyes to see a solid object and acontinuous surface behind that object even though theeyes see two different views.

    y Motion parallax

It means information at the retina caused by relativemovement of objects as the observermoves to the side (orhis head moves sideways).

    y Depth perception

It allows the beholder to accurately gauge the distanceto an object. It is the visual ability to perceive the world inthree dimensions.

    y tereographic images

It means two pictures taken with a spatial or timeseparation that are then arranged to be viewedsimultaneously.

    y Holographic Images

A luminous, 3D, transparent, colored and nonmaterialimage appearing out of a 2D medium, called a hologram.

A holographic image cannot be viewed without theproper lighting.

    Whatis 3DTV ?y A 3D television (3D-TV) is a television set that employs techniques

of3D presentation, such as stereoscopic capture, multi-view capture,or 2D plus depth, and a 3D display.

y Common 3D display technology for projecting stereoscopic imagepairs to the viewer include:

    1. With lenses:

    y Anaglyphic 3D (with passive red-cyan lenses)

y Polarization 3D (with passive polarized lenses)

y Alternate-frame sequencing (with active shutter lenses)

    2. Without lenses: Auto stereoscopic displays, sometimes referred tocommercially as Auto 3D.
