What is 3D Internet?
Combination of two powerful forces
Internet 3D Graphics
The results: Interactive, Real time 3D graphics delivered over the web.
Why now?
Until recently, There were two problem Slow Computers Slow connections
Downloading 3D content took a long time and once downloaded , It ran very slowly Quality of the graphics was very poor
What is changed?
Increased Bandwidth Cable modems DSL
Increased Processor Speed 1 GHz and beyond
Graphics Accelerators Installed on all new machines Able to provide fast , high quality graphics
Evolution of 3D Internet?
How does it work? *3D internet basically deals with the virtual World*
Fig.1. A graphical depiction of the proposed 3D internet architecture
Advantages of 3D internet
Participants have control throughout the virtual space.
Content is readily available.
Participants have a choice in whether to interact with an offering.
Technical implications
Speed A research shows that not many countries in the world are in a state to fulfil the internet speeds that are required for the implementation of the 3D internet. Hardware
Due to inclusion of 3D internet there would be great difficulty to view the 3D objects in the 2D devices.
Solutions
Speed 3G technology, the speed implications involved with
the 3D Internet would be solved in the near future.
Hardware 3D gogglesVision station as a monitor/display for the 3D
internet.
A figure of a vision station
Applications
e-Commerce Product Visualization 3D virtual shops Interact in virtual workspace
Contd...
Education• web based training using interactive 3D• Virtual experiments for for physical sciences*teach , learn and practice In the way that feels “ real ”*
Contd…
Entertainment• Multi-player, fully 3D games• Streaming 3D animation (much lower bandwidth
than video, can run on full screen, can have interactivity)
Social interaction• 3D chat spaces
Contd…
Collaborative design and Engineering
• Architecture• Product design• 3D visualization of data for various fields
Examples of 3D Internet
3D Shopping 3D internet dedicated years of research and develop world’s first fully functional and
interactive shopping mall where user can navigate and findthemselves in a virtualshopping environment.
Obstacles to success in 3D internet
Complexity of the space made it expansivebusiness to get into.
Slow acceptance• Players too large and buggy.• Bandwidth too limited for serious content.• Slow system to play content in real-time.
Advertisers, Marketers and Organisations have yet to capitalize on the vast potential of 3D internet.
Future of the 3D internet
Using the web and controlling information will be very easy
and effective by using 3D internet.
* Right now this might be FANTACY, but ten years in the
future this might be a serious invention !!
Conclusion
One venue that stand outs for its ability to attracthighly motivated audience is – The 3D Internet.
Immediacy of TV + Versatile content of web + Relationship
building strength of social networking sites = Interactive 3D Internet.
