    4. Application Notes

4.1 CAUTION: The TL1 DLT-EQPTcommand should not be performed

on an LT with active cross-connects, VCLs, or provisioned signallingchannels. Using this command in these circumstances may causedifficulties with retrieving other provisioned cross-connects, VCLs, orsignalling channels. Only the retrieval of the provisioned cross--connects,VCLs, or provisioned signalling channels is affected, not the stability of theconnections themselves.

4.2 Operators must observe rules for connections listed in Appendix Cof this document.

    4.3 In the ATU-R: With FG5 and FG6, multimode modems (e.g., an

ADNT-H running ATU-R 1.3.2 multimode software) will synchronize in theITU DMT (G.dmt) mode by default. Multimode operation alsoaccommodates synchronization and operation of G.lite and ANSImodems.

4.4 When fast retrain is initiated at the LT and a power cutback isinitiated at the ATU-R, the LT behavior is undefined. Fast retrain andpower cutback capabilities are not fully supported.

4.5 As of Feature Group 6.1.1, F4/F5 loopbacks replace VCloopbacks for in-service applications. Global VC loopbacks may still beused but only during ASAM installations. This is due to a restriction withindividual VC loopbacks that can result in cell loss on ports other than theselected VC port (AA-25268).

4.6 A dedicated loopback connection with test data transmitted at 50Mb/s or greater causes the ADLT to reset and the VP/VC of the loopbackto change to 0/0. Test data on a dedicated loopback should not exceed50 Mb/s.

4.7 A reset of the NT board is required to change the NE interface

configuration from manual IP to BOOTP. (AA-30087 and AA-28892)

4.8 To minimize the possibility of file system corruption in the NT,customers are advised to not use the USER ID Aging feature. This featureis disabled when the UAGE parameter is set to 0 using theED--SECU--USER command.

4.9 The ASAM supports the CAC parameter, MAXCON, for themaximum number of connections on the NT interface only for the UBRATM Service Class. i.e. the MAXCON parameter for CAC will not limit themaximum number of connections on the NT for any other ATM Service

    Class besides UBR. (AM--05934)

4.10 As of FG7.0, the ED--ATMPORT TL--1 command is used to editCAC, ATM Access, CDVT profiles and NGCR weighting for NT and LTinterfaces. The commands used to provision these ATM settings inprevious ASAM releases (such as ED--ADSL) continue to be supported inFG7.0 but are planned to be phased out in future ASAM releases.

4.11 The D1NT--A does not have functional ATM traffic and policingmonitoring counters due to a hardware limitation. When these countersare retrieved, they will always read zero. (AM--05168)

4.12 A small percentage of some variants of TI PCI ADSL CPEmodems may exhibit synchronization problems at loop lengths of lessthan 1500 feet. In Alcatel testing of the modems, the IT PCI AP3 and TI3000P experienced interoperability issues, potentially related to powerlevels. (AM--09616)

4.13 When using a Thomson ADNT--I (Speed Touch) modem in anATM loopback configuration for testing purposes, (either by provisioningthe modem for an ATM loopback or by hard wiring a loop back at the ATM

port of the modem) a random burst of errors may result when this testsetup is monitored for an extended period of time (greater than 8 hoursfor instance). This condition does not occur in test setups that simulate actual operatingconditions i.e. simultaneous unidirectional traffic at different rates that donot have the ATM traffic looped back at the modem. (AM--09581)

4.14 When issuing the command DLT--MEM for the working Database, the TL1 interface does not always return or display a COMPLDresponse. (AM--08284)

    6. Open Issues

6.1 The following items are identified as the known open issues at the

time of release of this document. Each open issue is tracked by one ormore problem tracking numbers. Problems are tracked by CustomerTrouble Report (CTR) number if applicable or by Alcatel internal problemreport numbers ( prefixed with AA, AM or OR).

6.2 General Open Issues are listed first. The remaining Open Issuesare designated with Severity Levels 1 through 3. See Glossary inAppendix A for the definition of Problem Levels.

    General Open Issues

6.3 The SVC-enabled lines per ASAM are restricted. See Appendix Cfor details.

6.4 In a system equipped with redundant NTs, an NT switch mayoccur if a rack (other than rack 1) is powered off. (AM--08391)

6.5 In ASAMs that have been exposed to a various migration /rollback scenarios or relatively extensive database changes, upgrading tothis FG8.1.1 (R04.03.20) release may result in a corrupt / non--functioningNT. Although Alcatel believes this condition likely to be relevant only to

lab environments, it is advisable that any traffic bearing / criticalinstallations be prepared to replace NTs that are to be migrated fromreleases prior to FG6.1.6 (R04.01.50) or FG7.0.2 (R04.02.21) to thisFG8.1.1 (R04.03.20) release. (AM--07710).

6.6 Using TL--1 or the 5528 WAM, it is not possible to perform aback--up restore of the database on a D1NT--B unit. (AM--11843).

    Level 1 Open Issues

6.7 There are no known Level 1 Open Issues.

1 AM--05930 Using an extended range in the parameters of a TL--1 command maycause the NT to reset. For example, entering the commandRTRV--ADSL::ADSL--1--1--1--1&&--4--3--1--12 may cause the NT toreset.

Work-around(s):1) Use the ALL parameter instead of an extended range for TL--1commands parameters For example, use RTRV--ADSL::ALL insteadof RTRV--ADSL::ADSL--1 --1 --1 --1&&--4--3--1 --12.2) Limit the range used in a TL--1 command to a single shelf.

2 AA-40116 NT will have a tendency to reset frequently if available disk spacedrops below 10%.

Work-around(s):In general, file space on the NT should be maintained by deletingunused files. In addition, in FG7.0, a diskspace alarm is provided towarn the operator if available disk space falls below 10%.

3 OR--01501 Attempting to change the minimum number of IMA links to be otherthan one is refused for LTIMA. Although the change is rejected, thedownstream minLR (used by CAC) changes and cannot be revertedback to the original minLR value by changing this parameter back toone even though the command is accepted.

Workaround: Do not attempt to change the default provisioning for theminimum number of IMA links. If it is changed, an NT reset will berequired to reset this parameter to a value of one in the CAC profile.

4 AM--06945 ATM traffic on a VC with VPI values greater than or equal to 256 arenot transmitted in the upstream direction on the same VPI.

Workaround: Do not provision VPI values greater than 256 on LTs

If an ADSL port on a 1000 ADSL ASAM running FG7.0.2 software islocked and unlocked for a modem that is in sync and operating in rateadaptive mode, then, the end use could experience a sync/no--surfcondition. An LT reset was required to recover the service for theaffected ADLT--E unit.

Resolution: The ADLT--E software was corrected to eliminate a

multiple resource allocation issue for LT ports that could bemanifested under the conditions described above.

    2 CTR2115937,

    AM--08389

An improper removal alarm erroneously returns after a slot isunassigned then re--assigned. The particular sequence is as follows:

After a slot is provisioned for ADLT--x with equipment present, subsequent removal of the equipment results in an improper removalalarm as expected. Then, when the slot is unassigned using AMS orTL--1, the improper removal clears as expected. Now, when the slotis assigned using AMS or TL--1, an improper removal appears eventhough no board has been installed since the slot was unassigned.

Resolution: The equipment subsystem software has been correctedto clear the missing board flag for these types of scenarios.

    3 CTR2020382,2113727,

    AM--08866

Converting a VPL/VCL to an F5 loopback segment endpoint requiresdeleting the connection.

Resolution: The ASAM software was modified to allow the F5segment point to be modified without taking down the cross--connect.

    1 CTR2125215,

    AM--09885,AA--40986

In rare cases, after upgrade to FG 7.0.2 and a subsequent NT restart, some random LT slots show an UNKNOWN (unmanageable) state /condition for the detected LT type leaving subtended ASAMsunreachable in the case of a D1 LT. Reseating of the LT is required

to clear this state / condition,

Resolution: To correct this problem, the restart behavior of the ASAMhas been modified. Now, when an NT restart occurs per operatorrequest, the LTs are no longer powered down prior to the restart aswas done previously. After the NT reset, the LTs are restarted duringthe initial audit sequence, but since this brief interruption (needed toalign LT and NT) is sequential, this will correctly re--align all LTboards.

    ItemNumber Synopsis

    ProblemNumber

2 BE--05372 In systems equipped with redundant NTs, some failure scenarios thatinvolved the removal of the redundant NT resulted in failure to clear

the Protection Failure + Switchover Capability Lost alarm.

Resolution: This problem was corrected by distributing the protectionlink signal to both NT units in a redundant configuration.

3 AA--38803 It was possible for the ACU to fail to respond to NT polling in somecases.

Resolution: Improvements have been made to the ACU -- NTcommunication link to ensuring that the communication persist even ifan internal end--of--message tag is encountered in the contents of theframe.

4 AA--45982 Under some circumstances, it was not possible to delete the lastremaining link of a D1LT IMA group.

Resolution: Task handling priorities in software were corrected toensure logical operation of IMA events of this type.

    10. Appendix C: Connection Rules

10.1 This appendix describes rules on the assignment of Virtual Paths

(VPs) and Virtual Channels (VCs) used in configuring ATM accesses andprovisioning connections for services.

    Restrictions for ATM Access Profiles

Maximum Number of Active VPI/VCI Bits

10.2 The ATM Access Profile has two parameters used to configuremodes of operation: Maximum Number of Active VPI Bits (VPIBITS in TL1command ENT-PROFILE-ATMACC) andMaximum Number of Active VCIBits(VCIBITS in TL1 command ENT-PROFILE-ATMACC).To selectdifferent modes, the operator chooses from the range of values listed inTable K.

    * Maximum number of active VCI bits must be greater than or equal to 6 to establish aconnection to the AMS. The operator must observe this restriction because the system does

not restrict values lower than 6.

10.3 Since ATM Access Profiles are created for both NT and LTinterfaces, the ASAM verifies that the NT and LT ATM Access Profiles are

compatible. The maximum bit parameters for LT interfaces must havevalues equal to or less than the maximum bit values for NT interfaces.

    Profile Migration

10.7 To avoid removing all connections each time the NT configurationneeds to be changed, the ASAM supports the assignment of a new ATMAccess profile to the NT without losing the PVC connections. Thefollowing conditions must be met to assign a new Access Profile to the NTinterface:

New values for MaxVpcs and MaxVccs are larger than thenumber of established connections

New values for MaxVpiBit and MaxVciBit are larger than

the current values and either remain within the currentnibble mode, or if outside the current nibble mode, they arecompatible with the NNI mode (i.e., [9...12] for MaxVpiBitand [1...16] for MaxVciBit).

When a new Access Profile is assigned to the NT interface, the abovechecks are performed. If the result is positive, the ASAM is reset toreconfigure the internal NT-LIM communication channels.
