THIRD QUARTERJULY - AUGUST - SEPTEMBER
In this third quarter we have been working on a big surprise that will be ready in the final months of the year.
It has taken a lot of work, but soon you will see a support program that is much more efficient – we are excited to unveil this unique experience soon.
Be on the lookout for our big announcement.
Thank you for your support.

OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE CURIOSITY LEADS TO LEARNING.
The children went on an outing to the Children’s Museum and they loved it.
Jaziel made huge bubbles, Lester climbed a mountain, Darlin made beautiful sand castles, and Carmen learned about electricity.
And of course, no outing would be complete without sandwiches and juice boxes provided by our volunteers.

Because a fire could happen at any time, we train our staff to be prepared for what to do in case there is a fire.
The Company ATA came to Fátima’s and gave us a presentation on fire safety and also donated several fire extinguishers. ATA helped us to place them strategically around the shelter so that we are prepared for emergencies.
They also started a fire in a bucket so that the childcare could practice using them.
We are always looking for ways to care for and protect the children.

THE ROOMS
We know that a person’s bedroom can have a big influence on overall well-being. If your room is cluttered and disorganized you are more likely start each day with a sense of disorder, but if your bedroom is clean and inviting, you might start each day feeling put together and maybe even be in a better mood.
Several people volunteered to help fix up the children’s bedrooms to make them more inviting. The first day they arrived the painted the walls. The girls’ rooms are now a beautiful pale pink and the boys’ rooms are sky blue.
Then, Rina Czech visited us and finished the rooms by painting beautiful murals. The walls are now covered with butterflies, trees, and birds. You can see pictures of the beautiful rooms on our Facebook page: facebook.com/ Decorazone por Rina Czech
After the murals were completed more volunteers came and brought comforters, decorations, and lamps. The girls’ lamps have a lampshade with butterflies all around and the boys’ lamps are decorated with a little plane.

The joy on the little faces was unforgettable.
We were all amused by the girls’ reaction to their new room. Amidst all of the beautiful changes, the thing that they were most drawn to was a new spongey rug.

TRADITIONAL CLOTHING
In honor of the independence day celebrations, our children participated in a food fair at the school.
Because the children, not surprisingly, only gave us two days notice that they had to wear traditional clothing, we had to ask our staff and friends to find outfits, but in the end we were able to find clothing for everyone. In addition to the clothing, the girls all had beautiful hairdos with their hair up in braids.
OUR CHILDREN ARE PROUD OF THEIR ROOTS
Alejandra was very nervous because she sang “La Sanjuanerita” in front of the whole school. In spite of her nerves, she sang very well.
The elementary school children danced marimba with their classes and the littlest ones in pre-K sang “El mishito.” They loved the traditional clothing so much that they asked to be allowed to continue wearing their clothing after they arrived home from school.

Little Garden
In order to teach the children about the environment and how to care for it, some volunteers brought the children flowers so that they could plant them in the garden. Jaziel was especially excited about the activity and exclaimed, “I am going to plant my tree!”
The children had an enjoyable afternoon planting their flowers and learning about how to care for the environment and how their actions can help contribute to the well-being of the planet.
After all of their hard work planting, they worked together to paint a lovely picture of animals and then enjoyed a snack with all of the volunteers and staff to end the afternoon.

RELAXATION
The children were very wound up in the last month, so we decided to make time for relaxation during the day.
We played calming sounds of birds and the air whistling through the trees in the forest so that the children could imagine that they were in a magical place and slip away into dreamland.

JOSE IS A BIG BOY NOW!
Our home is divided into two sections. The older children live downstairs and share rooms with bunk beds, while the infants and toddlers make their home upstairs where the rooms are filled with cribs.
Jose came to stay with us when he was one and a half and now his third birthday is just around the corner. At almost three, it was time for him to make the move downstairs. This was a wonderful change for Jose. He adapted very quickly and now spends his time running, jumping, and playing with the big kids.

Jazmin and Jostin had been with us for three years, from the time they were babies.
Their lives changed drastically for the better during the years that they spent with us at Fátima’s and we are very proud of the children they have become.
Although they will always be a part of our family, we are so happy that they now have a new family to care for them and love them just as much as we do.
We send them our love, hugs, and kisses and wish them much joy and success in their new lives.

JOSTINJostin arrived at the shelter when he was six years old. He had an accident before he arrived and was on crutches for a long time. This year he turned eight and although he started his eighth year by acting out, his behavior quickly improved when he learned that he was going to be adopted.
During the two years he was with us, Jostin learned skills that helped him cope with the trauma he suffered when he was very young.
He told us that he was very happy for this opportunity and that his going to continue to care for his little sister just like he has always done.

She had stomach problems that required extra care. She learned how to eat, bathe, walk, and talk during her time with us.
Jazmin was beloved by all and although everyone was sad to see her leave, we are also happy because we know she will be very loved by her new family as well.
We love you Jazmin and wish you a life full of beauty <3
