The purpose of this map is to serve as a guide for consumers seeking the freshest in locally grown produce. We have also chosen to feature recreational and historical sites, many of which have gained national recognition. From Old Forge to the Erie Canal to the farmlands along the Route 20 corridor, Herkimer County has something for everyone regardless of the season. You will find that Herkimer County is rich in history, beginning with the early settlement of the region, through the Revolutionary War, and in the development of New York State commerce as the Erie Canal opened new trade to the Midwest and the Great Lakes area. As you enjoy the products and recreation spots of Herkimer County you may see farms or shops not listed on the map. In no way is the map intended to be complete in listing our produce growers or places of interest, nor does it recommend one place of business or farm over another. This map was developed by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County and also the Herkimer County Farm Family Assistance Project. Funding was made possible by a grant from Herkimer County Mental Health Services. If you would like to find out more about agriculture in Herkimer County, simply stop by the Cornell Cooperative Extension office at 5657 State Route 5 in East Herkimer, or call 315.866.7920. Finally, we would like to thank the farmers and businesspeople of Herkimer County for their cooperation in the development of this map. Be sure to let them know you have used this map as a resource. We hope you enjoy the products, heritage and recreation offered here in historic Herkimer County.
