PPCA has recently agreed to broaden the Board representation of PPCA licensors by introducing a new Licensor Representative Director position. PPCA CHAIRMAN -

PPCA completed its annual distribution of surplus funds in late December, issuing over 1,100 cheques to registered Australian recording artists and Licensors. We are pleased to report that in the financial year ending June 2005, PPCA’s distribut-able surplus increased to over $10 million, representing an impressive 13.5% increase on the previous year.

Artists registered with PPCA will understand the importance of keeping us informed of new releases and changes to contact details. Any recording artist with questions on the Artist Direct Distribution Scheme or the registration process is encouraged to contact PPCA’s Distribution Department for assistance.

PPCA Most Broadcast Australian Recording

2005 – ‘Scar’

by Missy Higgins

The annual PPCA lists (for the financial year ending June 2005) show thirteen of the 2005 Top 50 Most Broadcast Artists* were Australian acts, while 22 local tracks featured in the 2005 Top 100 Most Broadcast Recordings*.

To view the PPCA Most Broadcast lists in full, go to www.ppca.com.au. These charts are measured by collating the titles that appear in the PPCA radio/TV broadcast logs during the period July to June each year. Bold denotes Australian Artist.

The 11th Annual Deadly’sPPCA was pleased to sponsor the 2005 Deadlys – Australia’s only national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, sport, entertainment and community awards. Held at the Opera House and broadcast on SBS, this year’s awards were a great success and a great opportunity for PPCA to celebrate and support indigenous Australian recording artists.

PPCA completed its annual distribution of surplus funds in late December, issuing just over 1,100 cheques to licensors and registered Australian recording artists.

PPCA’s distributable surplus of $10,015,587, represents another record and an increase of 13.5% on the previous year.

Once again it’s pleasing to report that, due to an increase in artist registrations, the sum paid directly to registered artists was larger than previous years. In addition, the number of Licensors also increased over the period to over 500 copyright owners representing the catalogues of over 5,000 labels.

All eligible artists are reminded to register each new recording with PPCA as it is released, in order to maximize their potential annual distribution. Any recording artists with questions on the Artist Direct Distribution Scheme, or the registration process, are encouraged to contact PPCA’s Distribution Department for assistance.
