There are many famous Illinoisans

one of them is Jane Addams .

Jane Addams is famous because

she was a Social worker who

founded Hull House for poor im-

migrants in Chicago .On a trip to

England , Jane saw something

called a settlement house. Jane de-

cided she would move to Chicago

& start a settlement house. Jane

bought a mansion in Chicago. The

mansion once belonged to

Charles Hull. Jane fixed up the

mansion & moved in she named

the mansion Hull House . The

hull house stated a kindergarten

club for children. Jane Addams

worked very hard all over the

world to help people and sup-

port peace .

There are many land forms in

Illinois, one of them is Lake

Michigan. Lake Michigan is one

of

the biggest lakes in the world.

It forms Illinois’ Northeast

border. It is the drinking wa-

ter source from Chicago and

parts of Indiana. In the last

two million years, glaciers

carved out the lad and melted

forming the Great Lakes. Lake

Michigan is 923 feet deep. Ca-

nals link Lake Michigan to the

rivers in Illinois making it possi-

ble for barges to carry cargo.

sources. I’m only going to talk

about one the Government.

There are many companies

that work for them. Police of-

ficers, teachers, gardeners, and

helpers in museums. Police of-

ficers help us with making a

living today because they take

down bad guys. Another one

is gardeners they help with

making flowers beautiful in

parks. Helpers in museums

give tours to people so that

people will understand an-

cient culture.

There are many resources in Illi-

nois one of them is corn. Corn is

one of the most popular crops.

That’s why there are more than

80,000 farms in Illinois. Also takes

up about 3/4 of Illinois. Once the

corn is harvested it’s sold as

grains and shipped to the two pro-

duction states.

There are many national parks in

Illinois. One large one is the Shaw-

nee national forest in southern Il-

linois. It helps support woodland

animals such as squirrels and owls.

It opened in the 1930s. One of its

fun activities include the Little

Grand Canyon, (lower right) a 3.6

mile hike through a small canyon.

The canyon’s walls tower 100 feet

high! There are lots of landforms

like this at the Shawnee National

Forest like the Garden Of the

Gods.( Upper right). Cedar lake is

on the very edge of this forest, so

why not visit this excellent park?

Illinois has very many places

to visit. One of them is Lin-

coln’s tomb. Lincoln’s Tomb

has been around for many

years now. It is a big tomb that

almost looks like a monument.

It has a big statue of Lincoln in

the middle, and two civil war

scenes. It also has Lincoln’s

name on the front. If you go,

always pay respect, and be

quiet so you can hear all

about Lincoln’s life! If you

find Lincoln’s face, rub his

nose for good luck!

form Decatur declared the state

insect. Monarch butterfly’s live in

Illinois from May to October.

Monarch butterfly’s travel 2,000

miles each spring. Monarch butter-

fly’ spend the winter in Mexico

because it is warmer. At sum-

mers end groups of monarch.

Butterfly’s began a 2,000 miles

flight to central Mexico. Some

of them only for a week be-

cause the migration. Very few

live the whole migration back

and fourth.

state fish the bluegill. Bluegill

lives inside the Mississippi

river and lakes and pounds.

The bluegill is 9 inches and

23 centimeters . The bluegill

was selected state fish in

1986 by students in Illinois.

Bluegill eats insect and small-

er fish. So it is a consumer in

the foodchain.

scales shine mostly bluegill like to

Illinois has many

the Tully monster.

It is extinct and it

once lived over 300 million

years ago. The Tully monster

had a soft shell and lived in

swampy shallow water. It was

a swimmer with tiny teeth and

a

long snout. Over one hundred

Tully monster fossils have

been in Illinois and no where

else in the world.

Illinois has lots of famous people.

One of them was Abraham Lin-

coln. Abraham Lincoln moved to

Illinois when he was 21 years old.

Soon after Abe married Mary

Todd in 1865.He ran for president

twice and the second time he was

elected. Abe Lincoln, was the16th

president of Illinois.

He was

president during the Civil

war. He led the slaves out of

slavery. Abe was assassinated

by John Wilkes Booth

April 14th 1865.He died the

next day. Luckily, his home

still stands today in Spring-

field, Illinois.

Illinois has many natural re-

sources. One of them is

coal .Coal is one thing we mine

out of the ground. By using big

scoopers. Coal used for elec-

tricity ,roads buildings and

homes too .coal is a very im-

portant natural resource in Illi-

nois. Over three fourths of Illi-

nois is covered with coal and

other minerals such as

fluorite .sometimes coal is

hauled on boats trains and even

big trucks. To get coal miners go

far under ground to get coal.

There are many types of coal

one of them is light and

brown ,subbituminous ,anthracit

e .to make a coal mine first

miners use a big truck with a big

saw blade to open the wall and

take the coal out with pickaxe’s

and drills.

fun places to vist.one of them is

the Shed Aquarium in Chicago

brates, and lots of sea life. Anoth-

er place is the Brookfield Zoo in

Chicago which has more than

2,000 interesting animals. Grant

park is a great place to visit in the

summers for festivals and deep-

style pizza. Finally Lego land in

Chicago has more than 2,000

kinds of Legos and Lego sets. The-

se sites in Chicago are great vaca-

tion spots because they are inter-

esting and great fun for all ages.

In Springfield you can visit a wonderful

place called the State Capitol, it was

built in 1888.

Another sight to see is the old State

Capitol, something to know about is it

looks the same as it does whenever

Abe was there. While were talking

about Abe you can even visit his

tomb, but before you enter if you

rub Abe's nose it will bring you good

luck. Another sight is Abe's cabin

which he first lived in 1809. Another

sight is the presidential library, witch

has a load of books about ole Abe

and what he did and were he lived at.

roughs. Edgar wrote

twenty-eight books

about Tarzan. Edgar

was born in Chicago on

September 1 and died

in 1875.Edgar sold 36

ferent languages. Edgar

wrote 70 books altogether.

like the buffalo who are found in

the prairie.

The Coyote live all over Illinois

Coyotes usually eat rabbits, mice

and other small animals. But they

dogs in their back yards. The

Illinois state animal. They also live

on the prairie to get the food and

nutrients they need they are the

largest animal in Illinois. The deer can

Illinois has many famous peo-ple. One of them is JOSEPH SMITH. He lived from 1805 to1844.He was born in Ver-mont. He is famous because he is the founder of the Mormon church. Later on the church be-came the church of the Jesus Christ and later day saints. When he was 15 he saw God and his son Jesus Christ . Did you know he lived in Navoo and he started a church there.?

Joseph Smith was jailed many times because of his religion. However the final time he went to jail he was shot by a mob. Eventually his followers were driven out of

Navoo.
