Football on thanksgiving day

WHAT´S FOOTBALL? The American football is a group sport. It born since hundred

years in United States like a English rugby´s evolution. Is one of the contact sports more competitive of United States and it practises actually in more than sixty countries.

There is a tradition that the football team ¨Lions´ play always on Thanksgiving. This happends because on 1934 the Lions played a match vs the Chicago Bears and the Lions won. And the owner decided to play on Thanksgiving for call the attention.

HOW DID IT START ?

ONE OF THE OLDEST TRADITION ON THANKSGIVING This activity is older than pumpkin pies and the stuffs.

THAKSGIVING GAME AWARDS

The tradition of a Thanksgiving Day award began in 1989. John Madden (then with CBS and later with Fox) began awarding the “Turkey Leg” to the player chosen as the MVP of the game.The Galloping Gobbler replaced the Turkey Leg in 2002. The “Gobbler” later switched to a bronze-like statue of a Turkey with a football. In 2011, the look of the Galloping Gobler switched to a clear plaque with an engraved image of a turkey.
