WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA WILL DO FOR YOU

There are many ways you will benefit from social media. I’ll share my own example to put it into perspective.

By using these very strategies, I gained a massive income growth. It was, however, almost by accident.

As with social media, when you perpetuate a good message, your reputation is perpetuated.

When I first started using social media, it was on sites like MySpace and Facebook back in 2005.

At the time I didn’t see them as social media sites.

They were just potential tools to boost my income.

I didn’t take them as seriously as you might imagine. To be fair, my first postings on those sites could be seen as quite “spammy” - if I may say so myself.

Online marketers flocked to use these new sites, as they popped out of the ground like mushrooms.

It was like a goldrush!

Facebook was just another social site to me. Sure it had potential, but I never thought it would get massively big.

Well, it got big. Very big!

When you hear their names, you almost certainly think of their greatest achievements. You think of the areas where they were extraordinary in life.

They chose to excel at something and they stood out to the degree that they went down in history for it.



What Else Were They Good At? Do you know if those extraordinary people were good spouses, how they raised their kids, if they were healthy and fit, if they even got good grades in school?

The fact is that most people don’t even care.

These people could have been outright lousy at 90% of things in life – and BRILLIANT in only one area.

The ONE thing they are famous for: The thing that consumed them and made them stand out.

They had an extraordinary attitude. That made them great people in history.

Albert Einstein’s Great Example

It was rumoured for a long time that Albert Einstein was ‘ordinary’ at mathematics.

Einstein believed that a physicist only needed elementary mathematics. Hence he didn't bother attending many of his math classes at University.

Einstein chose to place his focus primarily in one area. That made him extraordinary to the extent that he stood out from his peers.

Of course his sheer brilliance was a factor, but his preparation, persistence and attitude earned him admiration and a well-deserved place in history.

Preparation is a key ingredient in any success formula. It is part of your plan for success.

To prepare for social media, you should:

1) Learn the Rules, Etiquette and Strategies

Each social site is like its own little world with different types of citizens.

Yes, many sites are similar but each one has its own culture and ways to go about things.

Make sure you learn the distinct ways of each site. Otherwise, you might not get the desired results.

2) Complete a Compelling Profile

Your profile page is your face on each social site. This is where people can read about you and learn more.

Consider this your ‘make it or break it’ page.

Social media allows transparency. If a potential customer is looking at you (or your business) to buy a product, it is easy to research you on social media.

What happens if you don’t have any social profiles?

Well, bad luck for you!

Your future customers will just go elsewhere…

You are expected to have social profiles nowadays. Consumers will only think you have something to hide if you are not open and transparent.

And transparency means: Having social profiles



Social Scenario: JANE

Jane is browsing her social timeline. She sees some great content shared by a ‘social friend’.

She clicks through and arrives at your social profile.

Pretty handy! You shared some good content and it is spreading around social media.

Jane likes what she sees and decides to check you out a bit further.

Where else better than your social profile, right?

However, much to Jane’s disappointment, your profile page lacks both an avatar and doesn’t even have a header image.

To make things even worse, you didn’t bother filling in the ‘about me’ section and there are no links to a blog or other social profiles!

Overall, Jane’s first impression of you is ‘average’.

Your ‘ordinary’ approach to your profile page leaves a poor impression on Jane (who is a potential customer and a source of profit for you)

Tips to Completing a Compelling Profile

Here’s how to complete compelling profile pages.

Have a Proper Username

• A name is better than a pseudonym, especially if you want to eventually make sales.

• Personal profiles: Use your own name. It builds credibility.

• Business profiles: It is fine to use your business name as your username.

Use a Headshot as an Avatar

• Unless you are a recognized brand, such as Apple or Nike, a face will give you more credibility.

• Personal profiles: Make sure your face is visible. Let people see that you are a person and happy for them to see you.

• Business profiles: You can use a logo for your business.

Have a Header Image

• Most social sites let you have a header at the top of the page or background graphics. Use it to liven up your profile.

Use Photos for Credibility

• Photos will add life to your profile. Give people the opportunity to browse interesting content. Let them see you ‘being you’. It doesn’t hurt your image to be seen as a normal person.



MORE Tips to Completing a Compelling Profile

Add Links

• Make links available to other social profiles. • If you only link to 1 profile, make it your

about.me page. Then link it out to all your other social profiles.

• Have a link to your main website. • Many people will click though to check it out. Who

knows, you might even get a sale or two from it!

Leave Contact Details

• Give people at least 1 email address to contact you on. Likewise, a phone number is a good idea.

• Of course, the phone number is only relevant if you are in business (and want to make sales).

Your BIO

• Your biographical information is effectively your ‘about me’ section.

• Fill in ‘Your BIO’ and make sure to give people a short summary about you that gets their attention fast.

Each social site is a bit different to the rest. Nevertheless they are all similar when it comes to the ‘Your Profile’ section.

But you are bound to fail a few times first. Don’t fear this crucial part of the learning process.

To get it right, you first need to get it wrong.

The Beauty of Failure

Every successful person in history failed a multitude of times before meeting success.

As a matter of fact, life is a comedy of errors.

Errors can be seen as failures. ‘Failure’ is just such a negative word to so many people.

Failure, errors, mistakes… whatever people call it…

They Are Stepping Stones to Success!

Imagine running a Marathon. You have prepared for 12 months (hidden rule #1) and you’ve started the race. You’re running!

You have 42,195 meters ahead of you.

You’ve learned the strategies: the running style, the right shoes, hydration techniques, your diet leading up to the race…

You’re ready to ‘do it right’ (hidden rule #2).

At 20,000 meters, you’re starting to hit the wall.

At 30,000 meters, you consider quitting.

“After all, you can always run again next year“

Perhaps you could tell your friends, who supported you for the past 12 months, that you fell ill or got injured.

Finally, at 42,000 meters, you quit.

Only 195 meters to go!

You talked yourself into failing. Made a reason – an excuse – to justify the act of quitting: to lose!

Thousands of people pass you by when the race was there for the taking.

All you had to do was ‘persist’: complete the race.

• Is it because 96% are lazy and want success delivered to them?

No, I don’t think so. Personally I believe it’s because most people think there ‘has to be more to it‘.

“It can’t be too easy, right?”

It’s like there MUST be a secret recipe that explains why only 4% succeed while the rest fail.

And marketers will want you to think that they hold that golden recipe that will ‘do it for you’.

But reality is this: There is NO secret recipe

• Only YOU can get the results for YOU

Like I said before, these rules won’t just follow themselves on your behalf.

• YES, you can outsource tasks in your business. • NO, you don’t need to do everything yourself.

But You Do Have To Be Accountable!

Here is the part about being Realistic:

You have to be accountable; be the person who is 100% responsible in your business.

• Be the one who OWNS the mistakes in your business – even when others make them.

• Understand that ONLY YOU really care about your business. Therefore you are responsible!



Your Winning Attitude Gives You Winning Results – and Profits!

Your winning attitude will create you profits beyond your wildest imagination!

It’s like a subconscious process. When you focus on the inspired thought, it vanishes.

It can come to you during a conversation with other people or while watching TV or sport. Somehow, you are enticed into this thought pattern.

You’ll know when this happens.

Either way, you’ll know when you’re inspired and will immediately feel an urge to ‘take action now’.
