raquo am kommenden Hochfest des Heiligsten Herzens Jesu Freishytag dem 19 Juni 2009 - dem Tag der traditionsgemaG dem Gebet um die Heiligung der Priester gewidmet ist - mochte ich anlasslich des 150 Jahrestags des dies natalis von Johannes Maria Vianshyney dem Schutzheiligen aller Pfarrer der Welt offiziell ein Jahr der Priester ausrufen laquo Mit diesen Worten eroffnete Benedikt XVI am 16 Juni 2009 offiziell das Priesterjahr

Geboren (im Jahr 1786 in Dardilly nahe Lyon) in einer sehr armen und kinderreichen Familie die im Grunde gegen seinen Eintritl ins Priesterseminar war lebte Johannes Maria Vianney in einer Zeit in der der Antiklerikalismus sehr stark war (in Frankreich dauerte die Revolution noch an) aber er fUhlt trotz allem seit seiner Jugendshyjahre das Heranreifen seiner Berufung raquoIch mochte Seelen fLir den Guten Goti gewinnenlaquo sagte er zu seiner Mutler Dank des Wohlshywollens und der Zahigkeit des Abtes von Ecully Charles Balley der fest an seine Empfindungen glaubt und sein Studium begleitet und unterstUtzt wird er 1815 zum Priester geweiht Nach ersten Jahren als Vikar von Abt Balley wird er unmitlelbar nach dessen Tod nach Ars-en-Dombes versetzt ein kleines Dorf das wenige Seelen zahlt Hier erfLilit er fLir 40 Jahre seine Aufgabe und hier verbringt er seine Tage mit der Feier der hl Messe und verbringt ohne sich zu schoshynen auch bis zu 17 Stunden am Tag im Beichtstuhl Er stirbt 1859 im Ruf der Heiligkeit Ars war in der Tat noch zu seinen Lebzeiten zum Ziel von Pilgerfahrten geworden Papst Pius XI hat ihn 1925 heilig gesprochen und aufgrund der bewunderungswLirdigen ErshyfLillung seiner Aufgabe 1929 zum raquoSchutzpatron aller Pfarrer (auf Erden)laquo erklart

Nato (nel 1786 a Dardilly presso Lione) in una famiglia molto povera e numerosa e fondamentalmente contraria alla sua idea di entrare in seminario Giovanni Maria Vianney vive inoltre in un periodo stoshyrico in cui egrave molto forte lanticlericalismo (in Francia egrave ancora in corso la Rivoluzione) ma nonostante questo fin dall adolescenza sente maturare la sua vocazione laquoVorre i portare anime al Buon Dioraquo questa la frase che rivolse a sua madre Grazie alla benevoshylenza e alla tenacia dell Abate di Ecully Charles Balley che crede fortemente nei suoi sentimenti e lo segue e lo sostiene negli studi viene ordinato sacerdote nel 1815 Dopo i primi anni come vicario dell Abate Balley subito dopo la morte di questultimo viene trasfeshyrito ad Ars-en-Dombes un piccolo paese di poche an ime Egrave qui che svolge umilmente per 40 anni il suo compito ed egrave qui che trascorre le sue giornate a celebrare Messa e confessare senza risparmiars i anche fino a 17 ore al giorno Muore nel 1859 giagrave in fama di santitagrave Ars era infatti giagrave divenuta meta di pellegrinaggi quando egli era anshycora in vita Fu proclamato santo da Pio XI nel 1925 e proprio per lammirevole dedizione al suo compito fu dichiarato laquopatrono dei parroci del mondoraquo nel 1929

on the forthcoming Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Friday 19 June 2009 - a day traditionally devoted to prayer for the sanctification of the clergy - I have decided to inaugurate a Year for Priests in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the dies natalis of John Mary Vianney the Patron Saint of parish priests worldwide With these words on 16 June 2009 Benedict XVI officially marked the beginning of the year dedicated to priests

Jean-Marie Vianney was born in 1786 in Dardilly near Lyon France He came from a large poor family which did not favour his idea of entering the seminary He lived during a time when the French Revolution was stili underway and anticlericalism was very strong In spite of this reality as a young man he felt he had a voshycation to priesthood He once told his mother I would like to win souls over to the Good Lord Thanks to the kindness and tenacshyity of Abbot Charles Balley in Eacutecully who strongly believed in his intentions and hel ped him during his studies Vianney was orshydained a priest in 1815 During his early years he served as Abbot Balleys vica r Right after the Abbot died he was transferred to Ars-en-Dombes a small town with few inhabitants Il was here that for forty years he humbly carried out his priestly ministry spending his days celebrating Mass and hearing confessions tireshylessly even up to 17 hours a day Already considered a saint he died in 1859 Ars had become a pilgrimage destination even when he was stili alive In 1925 Pope Pius XI proclaimed him a Saint and in 1929 he was declared universal patron of priests given his extraordinary dedication throughout his pastoral ministry
