Great cohort with lots of great discussions and plenty to learn.I very much enjoyed the opportunity to interact with other administrators.  Our job is often very lonely.  It's nice to be away from our buildings with a group of people that understand our frustrations.Strategic thinking - focused on leadership that impacts student and faculty growthThis was a great course and was full of useful relevant information.These courses offered many resources and ideas for an administrator.  The time spent collaborating with fellow administrators was very valuable.  Wonderful opportunity for collaboration with other administrators-much needed time to brainstorm and share what is working to meet the ever changing needs of our students.I believe that the course helps you think outside the box.  I believe the contact with other administrators helps.The collaboration was the most effective part of the experience.The course is a great tool for collaboration among administrators from surrounding school districts--it's great to hear about their experiences.Opportunity to reflect on current practice, think about how to be more effective educational leader and work with other principals!  Thank you Dr. Lee!This was very close to a real-world application of analyzing data to improve delivery of instruction in a school setting.It keeps you thinking of what you can do to better your school for student successIt has helped me become a more effective leader.

The actual NISL curriculum was not beneficial.  The most positive aspects that were achieved were acquired from the roundtable discussions and were not directly related to the curriculum.  Too much time drawing pictures and spent on unimportant tasks.  If this course wasn't required most people would not sign up for it, that is the feedback provided by many individuals but they are not interested in sharing that point in public or directly to the leader.Collaborating with administrators inside and outside of your district ( county also)I wish they had had these courses when I first became or better yet as I was preparing to become a principal. The information is so timely and well done. Even as I am at the end of my career, I have found this course revitalizing. Implementing the course's practices will ensure I go out with a bang. In fact, it has restored my passion for the job so much so that I know I will remain active in education after I retire. 

Great leadership strategies

The most beneficial component of the NISL course has been the opportunity to network with other administrators. Networking is the most valuable part of the program.  I feel that the course serves as a reminder of what one should have 

learned and applied from a master’s program. This provides a structured time to reflect on our leadership practice and implement changes in an organized way to 

improve student achievement. I not only received practical ideas that I could bring back to enhance my practices but I was able to network with principals 

in the public sector. The course helps to make connections with what you do every day as a educational leader Course 2 had more practical ideas that could be used on your job.  I don't know if there will be another place to write comments so I will write my comments here. You really need to take 

seriously look at electronic materials. It is unfortunate that we have to “unplug” and return to old paper a pencil materials in a program that is supposed to be educationally progressive. Computers and electronic resources are the tools of our world; we should use them to support the excellent facilitators.

It makes you think about decisions and practices in a way to benefit not only students but staff as well. There are a lot of good ideas shared and information is current and relevant.  We should replace the big binders with a 

digital version to keep up with the times.   These courses are more meaningful than my certification classes.  Plain and simply the best information available to take 

back and put into action the very next day.  I would recommend these classes to anyone. This is a comprehensive experience. During the training, you are given current practices to use and supported in figuring 

out to do it in your own school. These trainings challenged my beliefs about what is possible as an administrator and provided solutions to common difficulties in leading schools. This is, most definitely, valuable training. 

The PIL program moves you from a building manager to an educational leader. I learned many great ideas. I am going back to my building to see what I can implement. Excellent opportunity to stay current with educational trends and provides opportunity to learn from fellow administrators.

Very knowledgeable presenters with good information and discussion.

We learned from active or recently active professionals in the field.  The topics were relevant and the strategy makes sense to implement.  Much of the "homework" for classes I used at work.

Raised my awareness regarding the data analysis push and results. Best practices were discussed.  Collaboration with other administrators was very beneficial. Needed. However, materials can be condensed into one day. This will make you a better administrator because it focuses on all aspects of administration-which is vital to improve the overall practice. "Dear Colleague, The PIL offers many opportunities to discuss and network with peers regarding cutting edge research and educational leadership topics. 

You would be foolish not to take advantage of such a wonderful program." I believe that this course was invaluable.  The time spent reflecting on our district's current practices, and beginning to think about the 

changes that need to happen was time well spent.  This course's look at reading, math, science, and professional development of the staff were good springboards for cross-district discussions about what education should become in the state in order to make our students effective workers in future careers.  I truly enjoyed the experience.

This course has helped me become more focused on a clear and shared vision. The vision should be developed from common beliefs and values, creating a consistent focus.

Quality facilitators, meaningful resources and collegial dialogue. "The need to not make decisions in a vacuum. In over 100+ post-baccalaureate credits in several institutions, this NISL course is by far the BEST training I've received in 27 years as a 

public educator!!  The NISL coursework should be something required by EVERY person looking to become a school administrator!  Thanks! The course gives you guidance and a vision to lead a school.

You don't realize how often you use some of what read/learned was discussed until sometime after.  It was difficult being out of the building and some sessions were much better.

I would encourage anyone who is in a leadership position in a school to enroll in these courses.  I like the common sense approach to what is not working in schools and steps that can be taken to make a major impact on the education in one's school.

This NISL course taught me key principles necessary to be a strong leader in my organization.  As a teacher with a technical background, this course helped to strengthen my academic knowledge as well as my leadership skills. PIL allows all of us to talk the same talk and share our thoughts with each other.

This course provides the plan to develop process for school improvement, the dialogue with colleagues necessary to "test" your ideas, as well as exposure to new ideas.  It also provides participants with the academic/research-based information to support the process.

Outstanding course set up, instructors and the networking and discussions have made me a better Principal.Helpful. The collaborative networking/problem-solving very useful.Relevant topics and information that can be immediately applied and used in the school.The course is one of few experiences that address systemic issues in a strategic framework with global perspective.This course really hones in what a leader should focus on during the school year.  The course made my "blurry lens" clear again as a school leader. It was extremely thought provoking and I feel that discussing professional issues with people outside the district/community you service is valuable.The course offers a solid balance of demonstrating best practices in teaching and curriculum as well as gives an initiative to promote change. It is very helpful to talk to others in the field.This course clearly defined a focus for me as I continue to grow as an administrator.It has given me research based information to make change within my building.  All administrators should be required to take this course.I would say that the instructors are top notch and that they present the information in a fast paced, deep way utilizing powerful strategies that model the plan.  I say to others that the information is practical and sets the stage for urgency in our expectations for high quality instruction, curriculum and assessments.  I tell them that the information is researched based and relevant to the classroom teacher.  I tell them that the collaboration between school leaders is one of the most valuable strategies that demonstrate how much we learn from others.  The courses inspire me to continue to be excited about education and to overcome barriers and persevere with great expectations for education.  The courses give me a sense of empowerment to push forward and "work with the willing."  I tell people how much work the courses are because they need to know that what is done in the courses is valuable and you gain as much as you give.  It is not for the uncommitted.   I also tell them the instructors are professionals that raise the bar for the profession of education.  The courses are an important part of the change process in education because we watched change take place in the people attending the courses from the beginning to the end of a course.  The courses renew the reason why I am an educator and how proud I am to be an educator in this challenging time of change and renew.  

The course provides best practices in research based instructional leadership. This course truly focused on the long term fixes in the content areas in which the greatest focus currently exists.  This course 

gave me some new ideas and re-enforced my original ideals that have fallen to the side.  This course re-focused me and gave me some time to think about the long term fixes that need to take place.

Relevancy - information can be used upon return to your building. The course is definitely practical and you can leave the classes with something to apply to your leadership the next day.  The 

way the courses are set up you are able to have valuable conversations with fellow colleagues. Good practical ideas that can be implemented within a school district. It reviews basic curriculum practices and focuses on an administrator as an instructional leader. It serves as a general reminder 

of the importance to spend time in the area of instruction, as it has the biggest impact on student learning. It makes you think more well rounded of how one's building runs.  This course was beneficial in providing helpful information to administrators.  We were kept abreast of recent trends in 

education and had opportunities to think critically about implementation in our own schools.  It was also a great way to interface with other area administrators and learn from one another.

Excellent opportunity to interact with peers from across the region.  Curriculum spearheaded superb conversation regarding relevant topics.

The perspectives and discussion available and the experience offered by the facilitators was great. This course provides a solid framework to continuously improve an administrator’s scope of knowledge.  It also allows for 

intellectual dialogue with colleagues from other districts The opportunity to interact and communicate with peers is a great part of taking the classes. This was the most interesting and beneficial course of the PILs program.  The opportunity for discussion with peers is 

immeasurable. Beneficial for the networking and concept discussions. This course was very thought provoking and the information on building the "right" teams in your buildings/districts and the 

ethical leadership pieces were great.  I have already incorporated some of the ideas into my practice here in the district.

The opportunity to network with and share ideas with other administrators is very important to the overall PILS experience. PIL courses serve as a way to get the necessary hours without costing your district money in these difficult economic times.  

University courses are far more valuable and effective for true professional development purposes. The course both provided new insights and reinforced current practices.

The PIL program is a great way to build effective leadership practices. The course is well designed, models what we'd like to see and is a safe environment to build needed skills. Thank you!

A chance to interact with fellow administrators to discuss common concerns and situations that pertain to today's educational practices.  A chance to reflect on how we may have handled scenarios in the past and discover new approaches.   We are learning new topics that are entering into the educational field.

Great take always that impact my educational philosophy.  The course has a lot of great information that can be taken back to districts to improve the quality of education for students.  

However, the eight days that this course takes could be shortened and the time better utilized when participants are there.   It is a well-developed course.  Unfortunately, it is aimed to teach the public school administrator, not the private. It took a lot of time with minimal impact on my leadership practices. Sessions one and three were somewhat effective, but 

session four had little value. Made me think about how things are done/decided at the administrative level - or at least, should be. The course is presented in an organized fashion and discusses several facets of instructional leadership. I am already implementing many of the concepts into my daily routines and support for the staff.  My ALP will be reviewed by 

the teachers in my school as they aid me in carrying out the plan. This course allows one the opportunity to reflect upon what type of instructional leader he or she is and gives ample 

opportunities to expand your current view through the resources used and group work embarked upon. The chance to share thoughts and ideas with colleagues from other districts around PA to see how we are both similar and different is also valuable.

It provides the opportunity to network and really deeply think about this job. There was time to commiserate and lots of new initiatives discussed.

It has helped to challenge me to search for the "how to" be a better leader . . . instead of using the "time" excuse. Need to look at, think about, and plan for leadership opportunities when working with staff.  I feel other supervisors in our IU 

would benefit from these courses to gain more of a perspective as to district responsibilities and requirements and for them to see the bigger picture.

Not very beneficial, but it is a required course to take, so I did not have an option. Excellent! The course content and presentations are well done. The chance to interact with colleagues is an additional 

resource. Very influential.  The content covered within the NISL units provides a knowledge base that allows you to change how you 

approach your work as a principal. The pre-work and reading materials are very thought provoking.  Discussion among peers is insightful and helpful.  Some 

of the presentations did not excite or motivate interest or discussion.  Joe Lachowicz is highly organized and offers a lot of information and resources.
