MR ALLOMES Congratulations to our campus captains

Bryce Antoine and Gandhari Gurung, who represented our campus at the recent Woy Woy ANZAC service. Bryce’s speech was extremely moving and I have had a number of calls from community members who wished to pass on their congratulations. Lachlan Steel demonstrated his leadership qualities when he represented our College at the Empire Bay ANZAC service. Again I have received calls applauding Lachlan’s participation in the service. On Wed 4

th May we held our campus

ANZAC service. Organised by Mr Macey and his team, the student led service was extremely moving and well supported by all students. We were very fortunate to have Claire Rosier who delivered a stunning performance singing her own song “Promises” Congratulations to Ms Langmaid for her

successful application to have the Australian Teenage Expo Show held on the Woy Woy and Umina Campus on the 26

th May. We are one of two schools

selected across NSW and the wellbeing show will carry a theme of potential and identity with many local youth providers coming to the campus and setting up stalls. 2 weeks ago we welcomed back our

students who travelled to Europe during the holidays. Organised by Mr Macey this

has now become a yearly event due to student demand. All reports indicate a highly successful trip with students appreciating the rich diversity and history of European culture. On travel we have had 12 students and 3

staff selected by the Australian Duke of Edinburgh Association to undertake a Kokoda Trek expedition. Although not a school endorsed excursion we wish our students and staff the very best with their preparation and adventure. In view of these events and all the other

opportunities offered to our students in areas of leadership, culture, performance and sport our students are extremely fortunate to have such a diverse range of activities offered to them. Many of these events will challenge and take students out of their comfort zones but learning through experience and gaining a better understanding of yourself are strong drivers towards maturity and acceptance of others.

Reminders:

The next P&C meeting will be on Wednesday 18

th May at the Umina

Campus starting at 7.00pm.

Yr 10 Exams Mon 23rd

– Wed 25th May

Yr 12 Parent Teacher Evening Tuesday 31

st May. 6-7.30pm in campus hall.

Our Football Academy Boys teams competed in the State Knockout Competition this term. They defeated Narara Valley in Round 1 and Erina in Round 2, but unfortunately were defeated by Terrigal in Round 3. Great effort and sportsmanship shown by all our students in every game. ONE ON ONE BWSC – Woy WOY Senior Campus prioritises the identification and understanding of each student’s individual learning needs, supporting classroom activities with a Three Tier Pyramid Intervention. Our ONEonONE program is based on high quality, research-based instruction and behavioral support, currently trending in Sugai’s (2013) “Response to Intervention Model”. ONEonONE works with teachers to identify students requiring additional academic and behavioural support. Students work on both their academic and social curriculum with our LAST and a range of community mentors, in an engaging personalised learning environment. ONEonONE works closely with our Wellbeing Team, Norta Norta Tutors and students with diverse learning needs, who sometimes struggle within the complex structure of the regular classroom. ONEonONE uses differentiated teaching strategies to create individual academic and behavioural success, with both students and teachers offered ongoing support in using newly developed skills to transition successfully to the classroom. In a caring environment, ONEonONE works with students as individuals, or in carefully established small groups to provide direct instruction, skill development and meaningful learning experiences across all curriculums at BWSC.

MUSIC WITH GARNER

Yr 12 Music had a great HSC Workshop today. Mrs Garner was very proud of her two performers: Claire Rosier and Josh White. Both demonstrated great musicianship. Nathan Scarratt was the only student to demonstrate a Viva Voce in the Viva workshop which was also highly successful, gaining positive feedback from participants.

Molly Millington in Year 10 was a fantastic mentor to our Junior

Support girls today. Molly wrote our Support Class a song and

began teaching them the chorus. We recorded Molly's guitar and

vocals on layered tracks ready for our class to learn it! Woot woot!

What a successful lesson!

Thank you Molly.
