4 STEPS TO MAKE YOUR WIMAX AAA SMARTERSOLUTION BRIEF

The success of Mobile WiMAX will be driven by

the intelligence of the core network and its

ability to personalize the subscriber experienceacross all the access technologies. A converged

WiMAX soluon that can co-exist with

incumbent 2G/3G networks is necessary for

    market leadership.

    THE MARKET REALITY

The North American, European and Asia-Pacificmarkets have seen the uptake of WiMAX by new

and exisng service providers and there arespectrum aucons sll occurring around the worldincluding India, Africa and Lan America

Although WiMAX is a popular 4G technology, LTEhas become the mobile evoluon choice for manyincumbent operators. In order to win, WiMAX

operators need to take advantage of theirme-to-market lead, and avoid isolatedWiMAX-in-a-bubble service offerings.

WiMAX is no longer viewed as a replacement to 3Gnetworks and therefore needs to co-exist

seamlessly with those. A clear case in point is thatmost WiMAX subscribers also have a 2G or 3Gmobile device.

The subscribers connue to rely on 2G and 3G

networks for communicaons when they are out ofWiMAX coverage and recently device vendors areproducing dual-mode (3G-WiMAX) handsets.

    THE VENDOR VIEW

WiMAX equipment vendors can be typicallyqualified as either specialized WiMAX vendors (i.e.vendors who do not have a 2G/3G product line) orend-to-end, do-it-all vendors (i.e. large incumbentNEPs that usually cater to all different technologies)In both cases, the WiMAX soluons being offered toservice providers are almost inevitably siloed, in the

sense that there is lile to no convergence of theWiMAX porolio and the 2G/3G/LTE porolio.

    THE SERVICE PROVIDER DILEMMA

In developing countries, there is a connuing trend of exisng 2Gand 3G service providers deploying WiMAX networks to becomemul-play operators.

Although this increases the service providers presence andmarket share they are facing several challenges, such as higheroperaonal costs, increased network complexity and poor

management of redundant subscriber data.Due to the engineering disparity between 3G networks andWiMAX, having a converged radio access or core network is notpossible. But, this network complexity can be dramacallysimplified by converging at their one point of commonality asingle mul-profile end-user.

Due to a restricted choice of soluons, service providers are forcedto duplicate their network infrastructure and adopt a WiMAX silo

approach. With a limited number of WiMAX ecosystem players it has becomecrical to demonstrate a significantly differenated soluon topenetrate the market.

    disparate networks

    FUTURE-PROOF WiMAX

The Blueslice CSP 3000 is the only industry soluon that addresses

the common 2G/3G-and-WiMAX subscriber. Going beyond thefunconality of a tradional WiMAX AAA that solely manages aWiMAX subscriber, the Blueslice soluon entails 4 Steps to makeyour WiMAX AAA smarter.

    STEP 1: SUBSCRIBER CONVERGENCE

Keeping in line with the global market trends, the Blueslice CSP3000 integrates the funconality of a 3GPP-compliant 2G|3GngHLR with a NWG-compliant WiMAX Home AAA server into asingle logical enty.

By seamlessly sharing subscriber data across both access domains, and enabling a single provisioning stream, service providers

significantly lower operaonal costs and achieve improved ROI byleveraging cross-domain user informaon for a personalizedend-user experience.

Global Leaders in evolved Subscriber Data Management Solutions

    STEP 2: VoIP OVER WiMAX & 3G

The CSP 3000 goes beyond Step 1 by hosng the SIP-AS 3000 into

an integrated soluon. By enabling VoIP calls over WiMAX and over

3G; service providers can expand their 4G network beyond their

    given WiMAX coverage.

The user profile aributes can be customized to enable SIP

redirecon of voice calls to the preferred access domain thereby

facilitang calls to the WiMAX and 3G domain as desired.

A simple example to elaborate the advantage of this unique

convergence; a user can have the same SIP client configured on his

3G and WiMAX device. Assuming the 3G device is unavailable; the

subscriber can have all his incoming 3G and SIP calls routed to his

WiMAX device. This sort of flexibility can be a key differenator and

revenue generator for WiMAX vendors and service providers.

STEP 3: IMS VALUE-ADDED SERVICES OVER WiMAX

Interacve mulmedia and Internet services over WiMAX aremajor sources of revenue for service providers. For currentwireless and wireline networks, the IMS framework enablesdelivery of IP mulmedia services. By hosng an IMS HSS as partof your eSDM soluon, operators can provide a seamlessend-user experience between the current networks and WiMAX.

This form of Fixed Mobile Convergence will allow serviceproviders to capitalise on their exisng investments whileenhancing the end-users mobile broadband experience with acontent-rich applicaons suite.

By hosng the SIP-AS, subscriber profiles can be personalized to manage VoIP

    calls across domains

    STEP 4: 4G CONVERGENCE

With the rapid global uptake of LTE, WiMAX service providers willseek a converged approach to managing subscribers across LTEand WiMAX networks. The unified database of the CSP 3000will allow the LTE HSS and the WiMAX AAA to share subscriber

    context across both 4G domains.

    access domains.
