Step 1: Know what design is.

Page 3: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Design is not a purely visual exercise.

Page 4: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Design is not a purely technical pursuit.

Page 5: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Design shapes experiences.

Page 6: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

You need to understand the impact of what you’re working on.

Page 7: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Great designers deliver experiences, not things.

Page 8: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Step 2: Know your media.

Page 9: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Producing a piece of media is not enough.

Page 10: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Media serves a purpose.

Page 11: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Media meets a need.

Page 12: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Great designers create media that delivers value.

Page 13: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Step 3: Know who you’re designing for.

Page 14: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

You’re designing for a business or organization.

Page 15: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

You’re designing for users.

Users being an audience, consumer, customer, or other label for a human.

Page 16: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Both groups need to be served with each piece of media you design.

Page 17: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Great designers balance business goals with user needs.

Page 18: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Step 4: Ask for help.

Page 19: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Understand the complexity of your job.

Page 20: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Know your weaknesses.

Page 21: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Find colleagues to fill in the blanks.

Page 22: 4 steps you need to take to become a great designer

Great designers collaborate.

I’m afraid for my parent’s safety.

Will my parents be able to meet needs of their daily living?

It’s taking too much time to organize interim solutions while planning for the future.

How serious is it?

How safe is it to live at home?

How long will the problem last?

What supports exist in my community?

How much money do we have to put towards the problem?

How long can the family take on care/daily responsibility?

Will my parent(s)/other family members be able to come to a decision together?

Do we want to move the parent out of their home?

Should we sell the home or renovate it?

I don’t know where to begin.

I don’t have enough time to dedicate hours of research and making calls can be difficult at work.

I’m letting things drop at work and with my other responsibilities.

Both home-care and retirement living are expensive.

If I sell the house, I have to deal with all of the downgrading and moving

Will my parent be able to live here until RIP?

What are my parents needs versus their wants?

Are the people that live here happy?

How do I continue to care give once my parent moves in?

Are there social activities available? Is the foodtasty? Is it clean? Is there access to transportation? Do the staff care about the residents?

What’s included in the rental price and what is extra?

I have to plan to pay more for care on top of the costs of monthly rent.

Is my parent going to be with people that are sicker than them?
