DODA: A youth allegedly committed suicide by jumping intoriver Chenab from main bridge at Pul Doda on Saturdayafternoon.
According to reports, the 29 years old youth climbed therailing of the bridge at crowded Pul Doda and without givingpassersby anytime to react, jumped into river Chenab.
Reports said that people present on the bridge immediatelyraised an alarm and informed the police. A team of police andChenab rescuers immediately reached the spot and startedrescue operation.
The deceased has been identified as Mohd Iqbal (29) Son ofGhulam Mohd resident of Marmat area of Doda.
When contacted DySP Hqrs Doda Iftkhar Ahmed con-firmed the incident and said that after receiving an informa-tion about the incident, he along with SHO Doda immediate-ly reached the spot.
"The body was fished out from Chenab by the hectic effortsof police team and Chenab Rescuers. We are investigating allthe angles and have started inquest proceedings under section174 CrPC at Police Station Doda to ascertain the reasonbehind this step by the Mohd Iqbal, " DySP added, sayingthat the body has been shifted to District Hospital Doda forpostmortem and other legal formalities.

HIRANAGAR: Excise Department on Saturday destroyed1,100 Kgs of Lahan during dif-ferent raids carried out againstillicit liquor in Excise RangeKathua.
On the directions of the ExciseCommissioner Mohd. Javed Khanand supervision of Deputy ExciseCommissioner (Executive),Jammu Syed Muried Hussain Shah, the Excise Team Kathualed by ETO Excise Range Kathua, Vikas Anand, InspectorExcise Sanjeev Khajuria, SI Amit Sharma along with ExciseGuards Rajinder Singh, Akeel Ahmed and Mohd. Ramzanraided the Parso Chak, Chatrayala, Birso Chak, Lado Chakand Banyari areas of Kathua District to arrest the menace ofillicit distillation of liquor.
In the process more than 1,100 Kgs of Lahan, raw materi-al of illicit liquor was recovered by the raiding team fromState land and later destroyed on spot.

SAMBA: Police arrested one person and recovered 80 cap-sules from his possession at Bari Brahmana.
According to a report, a party of Bari Barhmana PoliceStation led by Inspector Mahesh Sharma intercepted one per-son namely Shiv Lal son of Pars Ram resident of Sarore Addafrom Railway Station Bari Brahmana and during frisking, itrecovered 80 capsules from his possession. He was arrestedand a case under relevant section of law was registeredagainst him.

According to a report, Balbir Singh son of Bodh Raj resi-dent of village Bainglad consumed some poisonous substanceat his home to end life. On seeing him lying unconscious, hisfamily members shifted him to District Hospital Samba fortreatment. Police has registered a case for investigation.

SAMBA: Police on Saturday arrested a drug peddler andrecovered one kilogram of poppy straw from his possession.
According to a report, a team of District Special BranchSamba, Vijaypur and Ramgarh apprehended one personnamely Sunil Kumar son of Bishan Dass resident of villageTaloor Samba from Samba Chowk and during his frisking,recovered one kilogram of poppy straw from his possession.He was arrested on the spot and a case under relevant sectionof law was registered against him.

SAMBA: Police on Saturday arrested ten gamblers andrecovered Rs 6,500 as stake money from the gambling spot.
As per the details, acting on a specific information, a partyof Police Station Bari Brahmana headed by InspectorMahesh Sharma, SHO under the close supervision of AshokSharma, SDPO Bari Brahmana and overall supervision ofAnil Magotra, SSP Samba raided gambling spot at Telli BastiBari Brahman and arrested 10 gamblers along with playingcards and recovered a stake money of Rs. 6,500 from the spot.
The gamblers have been identified as Jaimangal Mahto sonof Bhola Mahto, Snail Ram son of Badhri Ran, HarinderSingh son of Mukeshwar Pradhad, Mahesh son of VindeshwarParshad, Bhikhari Ram son of Birinchi Ram, Rambo son ofShivnath, Ajay Kumar son of Shiv Chanda, Shambu Kumarson of Brij Krishan, Parmodh Kumar son of Lalji and AnilKumar son of Shiv Bhagat all residents of P Teli Basti BariBrahmana and were booked under section 13 of GamblingAct in Police Station Bari- Brahmana.

"These roads would prove tobe a blessing for the lakhs oftourists thronging to the holyshrines in Uttar Behni andPurmandal every year," theMinister said, adding thatthere is a need to maintainenvironment of peace andbrotherhood for the overalldevelopment of the state.

Stressing on the develop-ment initiatives taken by thegovernment, the MPinformed that the work onJammu-Akhnoor NationalHoghway would be startedsoon. He said that constituen-cy wise development projectsare being prepared by the gov-ernment and sent to theCentre for sanction for ensur-ing equitable development ofall constituencies in the state.
Speaking on the occasion,MLA, DK Manyal informedthat the work on PurmandalHospital would be completedsoon at the cost of Rs. 71lakh. The PHC, Purmandal isthe only such health centrethat has an ultrasoundmachine, he added.

15 widows, Rs 2 lakh to fivefamilies under StateMarriage Assistance Scheme(SMAS), construction ofShamshan Ghat worth Rs7.5 lakhs, 8 hand-pumps,up-gradation of transformerup to 250 KV and manymore.
Minister also inauguratedthe black topping work of 1km road from Gudwal toShamshan Ghat to be con-structed at the estimatedcost of Rs 20 lakh.
He added that an era ofdevelopment and progresshas started in the State
adding that social and eco-nomic upliftment of theweaker sections, downtrod-den, women, youth andfarmers is on prime agendaof the government. The min-ister said that the govern-ment has laid full focus ondevelopment of infrastruc-ture and providing bettercivic amenities to the peopleof the State. Contractors protest non-release of payments
