Readers are requested to verify the contents on their own before acting there upon.” STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: To observe age-old tradition and to take blessings of Lord Shiva and Parvati while celebrat- ing 'Kanchouth' festival, early morning women folk of Bhadarwah and its adjoining areas were seen going towards their respec- tive temples on Monday. The main programmes were reported from Kotli, Ghatha, Khakhal, Gupt Ganga, Chinote and other temples of the area. The Kanchouth which is particularly for women falls in the month of ending January or February every year. Like Karwa Chouth that is celebrated in plains, Kanchoth is celebrated in this hilly Bhadarwah area. Both fasting festivals are celebrated by women to pray for long-life of their husbands and in both style is almost same. The only difference is the timing. Where as Kanchouth falls in winters, Karwa Chouth is celebrated during autumn. According to a woman Geeta Devi of Kotli,on Karwa Chouth women break their fast when the moon appears while in case of Kanchouth the fast is broken after Gouri Pooja during the day. To celebrate this occasion with full of tradition, ladies dressed in their best suits(mostly red) and orna- ments gathered at their nearby water bodies where they perform Pooja and then sing Bhajan and dance one by one. Ladies also offer 'Thel'(respect) to one and all, irrespective of creed and caste; age and sex and get in return their blessing 'Suhagan Bho'(long live your husband). The ladies are supposed to take food in every house they visit. In some cases it so happens that they have to take their meals in scores of houses each day. In the night ladies gather, sing Ghurai (Bhajan) and dance. During these three days the kitchen is managed by hus- bands. While speaking to media some women including Lalta Devi, Janar Devi ,Reva Kotwal, Rekha Devi, Shashi Lata and Shudda Devi informed that this fes- tival is celebrated as anniversary of Shiv-Parvati marriage and like Karwa Chouth women of Bhadarwah fast today to take blessings of Shiv- Parvati and seek long life for their husbands. STATE TIMES NEWS KATRA: The 32nd meeting of the Governing Body of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SSH), Kakryal was held here under the chair- manship of Dr. S. S Bloeria, Member, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the Hospital. The Governing Body exten- sively reviewed the function- ing of the hospital since its last nine months of opera- tionalisation and expressed satisfaction over its perform- ance. It took a number of important decisions for fur- ther strengthening, expand- ing and upgrading various diagnostic, treatment and infrastructure facilities as well as equipments on contin- uing basis to meet the upcom- ing and futuristic require- ments of this tertiary medical care hospital. In this context, Dr. Bloeria emphasised the need for positioning of more and more highly experienced and renowned medicos as well as the equipments in various departments, wherever required. Those who participated in the meeting included B. B Vyas, Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development, who is also Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee of the Hospital and Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; both members of the Governing Body; Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO; Dr. (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, SMVDNSH; and other con- cerned officers from the Shrine Board side. Those who took part in the Governing Body meeting deliberations on behalf of NVDSHPL/NH included Dr. Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, Vice Chairman, MD and Group CEO NH and member of the Governing Body of the Hospital; V. Kesavan, Group CFO, NH; A. Nagarajan, Senior Vice President Finance, NH; Sunil Kumar CN, Zonal Director, NH and CEO, SMVDNSH and Dr. Sirish Dhoble, Clinical Director, Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal. The meeting also discussed the modalities for setting up the PET Scan facility at the earliest in the best interest of patient care as such a facility is not available elsewhere in the State. Further, regarding operationalising the organ transplant facility at the Superspeciality Hospital Kakryal, Dr. Raghuvanshi informed the meeting that the matter in regard to secur- ing the required licences is being persistently followed up and other facilities are being put in place for this purpose. He informed that the hospital is contemplating for early commencing of kidney trans- plant, which will be followed by bone marrow and liver transplant facilities. The meeting also decided that the hospital will start OPD consultation in Jammu in February 2017. The Governing Body was informed that eight major TPAs have now empanelled the hospital for providing cashless treatment to patients covered under various medical insurance policies. Soon the hospital will be empanelled by 12 more such TPAs. SSH Kakryal to start OPD consultation in Jammu from Feb Woman booked for possessing illicit liquor STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Excise Department on Monday booked one person under Sec 48 of the J and K Excise Act, besides destroying 187 pouches of illicit liquor and 600 kgs of Lahan during dif- ferent raids carried out against illicit liquor in Excise Range Kathua. Under the active supervision of the Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu, Ghanshyam Singh, the Excise Team Kathua led by ETO, Excise Range Kathua, Sandeep Gupta along with Arun Kumar Inspector Excise, raided Khokyal, Kangdyal and Shatyal areas of Kathua District to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liquor. During the course of raids one person namely Simla alias Munni wife of Dev Raj resident of Kangdyal, Nagri, Kathua was booked under sec 48 of J and K Excise Act for possession of illicit liquor. In the process more than 600 kilograms of Lahan and 187 pouches of illicit liquor were recovered and later destroyed by the team on spot. Three drug peddlers arrested STATE TIMES NEWS POONCH: Police on Monday arrested three drug peddlers and recovered drugs from their possession. As per details, a Police Party of Police Station Surankote under supervision of DySP Hqtr Mohan Sharma headed by SHO Charanjeet laid a Naka at Potha bypass, stopped one swift car bearing temporary No JMU.BJ 9302 for checking. During checking of the persons boarded in the car, police recovered one gram brown sugar from Waseem Akram son of Mushtaq Hussain resident of Surankote, 20 grams Charas from Vikram Sharma son of Mohinder Sharma resident of Surankote and 40 grams Charas from Tariq Mehmood son of Mohd. Aslam resident of Potha. All the three were arrested and a case vide FIR No 16/17 under section 8/20/21/22 NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Surankote. STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: A farmers awareness programme on 'Weather based Agro Advisory and its Impact On Agricultural Sector' was con- ducted at block Siot of dis- trict Rajouri by Agro-meteo- rological Field Unit (AMFU), RARS, Rajouri of SKUAST - J on Monday. About 55 farmers partici- pated in this programme. The awareness programme was initiated under the guid- ance of Dr. J. P Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST -Jammu. The main objective of the pro- gramme was to help our farmers to manage weather related uncertainties in day to day agricultural activities particularly during rabi sea- son. The proceeding of the training programme was started by Dr. Vinod Gupta, Incharge, RARS, Rajouri, wherein he highlighted the importance of organising this programme to sensitise the farmers of hilly region about weather and climate information and its applica- tions in their farm opera- tions. He motivated the farmers to take maximum advantage from this aware- ness programme as well as the services provided by the RARS, (SKUAST - J), Rajouri. Dr. Mahender Singh, Head and Nodal Officer, Agromet Research Centre, SKUAST - Jammu highlighted the use of weather and climate based agro-advisories in day to day agriculture activities and stressed upon the farmers to make more and more utilisa- tion of Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) Services rendered by India Metrological Department (IMD) and role of SMS serv- ices in the area. Dr. Rohit Sharma, Technical Officer (Agro- meteorology) gave informa- tion on importance of agromet advisory services. Dr. Vikas Sharma, (Scientist, Agronomy) focused on agronomic prac- tices taken in various Rabi crops in the area. Dr. Deepak Kumar, Scientist, RARS, Rajouri emphasised on the role of weather factors on disease development and their management in wheat and mustard crop. On this occasion Ramesh Sharma a progressive farmer from Siot also inter- acted with the farmers along with the Sat Pal, Sarpanch of the village Siot. STATE TIMES NEWS RAMBAN: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) Ramban staged a protest against the Rural Development Department (RDD) for its 'failure' in clear- ing liabilities since long time in the works being done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), in front of Block Development Office (BDO). Addressing the gathering, Conference District President Farooq Choudhary alleged that though the Union Government had released funds to the government for clearing the MGNREGA, 14th FC, SBA, IHHL, IAY liabilities, the department was deliberately not clearing them. The minister concerned and senior officers sitting in the civil secretariat should pay attention to the miseries of poor people. He claimed that district Ramban was among the district which paid lowest to its MGNREGA workers. He warned if the concern department does not fulfill our demands within a week the conference will go for indefi- nite strike in district adminis- tration complex. Talking to media persons Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Ramban Jahangir Khandey said that the depart- ment will fulfill their genuine demands at the earliest. Shopkeepers refuse to accept Rs 10 coins STATE TIMES NEWS NOWSHERA: The com- mon people have resented non-acceptance of ten rupee coin by the shop- keepers on the grounds best known to them. President Beopar Mandal Dharamvir Gupta, Samaj Sudhar Committee Pfresident Gopal Sharma and Kamal Gupta said that there should be no hesitation in accepting the coin of Rs 10 but it has become a routine with everybody not to accept the coin. Even the Manager of Jammu and Kashmir Bank said that there should be reason to refuse the coin when the bank itself is accepting it.
