Time to Build! As we look to this next year in the European Affinity, we see the Lord has answered our prayers in the last year and are seeing winds of change in many areas of our affinity. We are reminded, as we continue to see the empty churches of a post-Christian era, of Nehemiah 2: 17-18 (ESV): “Then I said to them, ‘You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision.’ And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, ‘Let us rise up and build.’ So they strengthened their hands for the good work.” In the European Affinity, we see our countries and their lack of knowledge of the Lord, and we, together with our national partners and other like-minded Great Commission partners, are saying, “Let us rise up and build.” Where do we begin and where is our focus? We start with prayer. Thank you for joining us as we spend the next 40 days in prayer for European Peoples around the world. As we pray, ask the Lord to continue to guide and direct those who live and work among Europeans. Pray for volunteers, short-term workers, long-term workers and national believers. Time to Build!

As we look to this next year in the European Affinity, we see the Lord has answered our prayers in the last year and are seeing winds of change in many areas of our affinity. We are reminded, as we continue to see the empty churches of a post-Christian era, of Nehemiah 2: 17-18 (ESV): “Then I said to them, ‘You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. And they said, ‘Let us rise up and build.’ So they strengthened their hands for the good work.” In the European Affinity, we see our countries and their lack of knowledge of the Lord, and we, together with our national partners and other like-minded Great Commission partners, are saying, “Let us rise up and build.” Where do we begin and where is our focus? We start with prayer. Thank you for joining us as we spend the next 40 days in prayer for European Peoples around the world. As we pray, ask the Lord to continue to guide and direct those who live and work among Europeans. Pray for volunteers, short-term workers, long-term workers and national believers. But also pray for those engaged in the hard work of prayer. May the Lord bless as His people work to build His kingdom.

Day 1: Wednesday, September 11 As IMB representatives live among and meet Europeans daily, as they try to think of ways to share some spiritual truth or the gospel; they realize that more than likely these people don’t want to hear their message. These people feel they are fine and feel they have no need for the message that is being shared. So why is it important for us to continue to pray and to share? Because God says in His word, that we are to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15, HCSB) There are many other reasons, but number one, God commanded it for His glory. Pray for those who are sharing with Europeans to persevere, to be bold and to feel the empowerment of the Holy Spirit daily.

Day 2: Thursday, September 12 Missionaries have a wide range of ministries and talents that they use in sharing the gospel where they live. But they still have many of the same struggles as everyone in the US. They have sickness, disease, broken bones, disappointments, aging parents, young children, children facing different problems in schools, sending children off to school, as well as separation from children and grandchildren. However, they know that God has called them to their place. Pray that God will sustain them in those times and give them a peace about circumstances beyond their control and remind them that He is in control. Pray that they will be filled with joy.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4, NIV)

Day 3: Friday, September 13 Some days we are so busy “doing”, we forget our main task. Missionaries are no different. They may be doing important things, good things, productive things, but may neglect to look for that one person that needs to hear about the Lord. Pray that they will be given opportunities daily to share the hope that only comes from knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior.

“Pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.” (Colossians 4:3-4, NIV)

Day 4: Saturday, September 14 MKs or TCKs are special gifts on the mission field. As they step out in countries not their own, they embrace their new homes. They are totally immersed in their new culture. Language skills come much quicker than their parents. They integrate into their schools and make new friends. Pray for our TCKs across the European Affinity. Pray for their daily needs. Pray for them to find good strong, godly friendships. Pray for their protection. Pray for their

spiritual life and maturity. Pray that they accept the Lord as their Savior and becoming a shining light for Him. Ask that they will be able to say with confidence “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Hebrews 13:6, NIV)

Day 5: Sunday, September 15

At the recent EURO Affinity meeting, MKs from the whole affinity were invited to pray in the prayer room while their parents were in meetings. Please join our MKs in prayer over the next few days. Let us have faith like our children, bringing prayers and petitions to God in faith. As you can imagine many prayers were for family. Family is so important on the field. Please pray for each family unit as you read these prayers.

- “Please heal my dad’s neck” - “Please heal my daddy’s back” - “Pray for my grandparents” - “Pray my family will be a good family.” - “My family and my friends” - “I pray for my sister” - “My family, friends and school” - “Pray for my grampa, who doesn’t know Jesus” - “My mommy, daddy, and me…and my sister” - “pray for daddy, my friends, and thank you for the animals” Day 6: Monday, September 16 Pray for the childlike faith of our MKs, may we have such a faith. “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (Mark 10: 14-15) Pray alongside these children for prayers written in faith!

- “I pray that my Daddy would teach people about Jesus.” - “Jesus died on the cross but rose again!” - “Lord Jesus, one day will you please make everybody proper.” (proper in British English means correct, clean, suitable, satisfactory) - “Help me not to be nervous in my new school.” - “Help me have a good time at school.” - “Please pray for my friend who isn’t Christian and hope she gets lead to Christ so she will be saved.” - “Father, please move the mountains” - “I pray my neighbors would desire to know Jesus” - “Pray for the deaf” - “Thank you God and Jesus”

Day 7: Tuesday, September 17

“Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.” (Psalm 8:2, NIV)

Many prayed for different countries, please join them and pray for:

- “France” - “I pray for all the Italians that don’t know Jesus and hope I can tell them about you Jesus!” - “Dear Lord, please help the mission work in Madrid Spain.” - “Please bless my friends and my family in America. I miss them.” - “For more people to come to Russia to serve.” - “Ukraine’s war with Russia” - “Please pray for my friend in the US to want to know Jesus, and that her family would let her be free to do that.” - “Vienna, Austria” - “For Krasnodar to have a revival” - “Latvia” - “Jesus, I pray for all of the people that don’t have food or water or toys, amen.” - “London”

Day 8: Wednesday, September 18

“So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the message of good news.” (Acts 8: 4, HCSB)

Pray for the EURO Diaspora Cluster. Europeans are scattered in countries worldwide. Pray that they would meet believers, either nationals of their new land, believers from their homeland or missionaries; who will share the Good News of the Gospel with them. Pray for missionaries in Australia, Brazil and Canada as they work among Europeans in these countries.

Day 9: Thursday, September 19

As we remember the new work in Oran Park, the work in universities and the seminary in Canada, and the work among the Azoreans, Italians, Roma and Ukrainians in Brazil; pray that the teams engaged in these countries continue to develop successful Spirit-led approaches and strategies which are effective in these unique circumstances. Pray for them as Paul prayed, “To the weak, I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” (1 Cor. 9: 22-23, ESV).

Day 10: Friday, September 20 London is rich with many diverse people groups and nationalities from all over the world. It is also filled with many temptations and strongholds that entice people away from the Lord. Pray for those who live and minister in London to be bold in proclaiming His word and His truths. Pray for them to have an excitement and zeal to share that is contagious among other Christians and gives them encouragement to share their faith.

“For I know your eagerness, and I brag about you to the Macedonians: ‘Achaia has been prepared since last year,’ and your zeal has stirred up most of them.” (2 Cor. 9: 2, ESV).

Day 11: Saturday, September 21 As the world recognizes today as the “UN International Day of Peace”, please be in prayer for those across Europe who live in darkness and fear. They may desire peace but have not found the peace that is only available by knowing Jesus as Lord. Pray for the Peace that comes from the Lord to be given to all peoples and all nations.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27, NKJV)

Day 12: Sunday, September 22 Pray for national leaders in countries of the European affinity. Pray for the national and local governments, some of whom work easily with IMB representatives, while others do not. Pray for improvement in relationships in all of these countries. Pray for these leaders to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life.” (1 Timothy 2: 1-2, ESV)

Day 13: Monday, September 23 Pray for national leaders of the Christian communities in the countries of the European affinity. Pray for those that may not know Jesus as Lord and pray for those that know Him as Lord to follow His directions to lead their respective communities. Pray for strong partnerships to develop between them and IMB representatives so that more people will be reached with the gospel. As partnerships are developed and leaders are discipled and trained, pray for churches to be planted that have the DNA to plant new churches.

“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” (2 Tim. 2:2, NASB)

Day 14: Tuesday, September 24 Today, we begin prayer for the EURO South Cluster. This cluster contains countries in the Balkans and the Black Sea regions. Pray for the strategy leaders in this cluster. Pray for the numerous people groups represented here and for their governments. Pray for those working in these areas to have good relationships with officials and easy processing of visas in these countries. May they be shining lights that attract people to want to know more as they live and work in their communities.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-34, NASB)

Day 15: Wednesday, September 25 Pray for countries in the Balkans sub-cluster which include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia and Greece. Pray that God will give Europeans in these countries an overwhelming desire to know Him. Pray for them to seek Him until they find the answers that will give them hope for the future. Pray for the believers in these countries to be bold and to serve the Lord out of devotion to the gospel and not based on an expectation of monetary gain. Ask that they would live in unity with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together they may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“Now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement allow you to live in harmony with one another, according to the command of Christ Jesus, so that you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with a united mind and voice.” (Romans 15: 5-6, HCSB)

Day 16: Thursday, September 26 The Black Sea Orthodox Cluster includes the countries of Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Georgia and Armenia. Many areas in these countries still suffer from past wars and oppression, as well as present skirmishes. Pray for safety for Christians in these countries and for a fruitful harvest for the Kingdom. Pray that God will use man’s desire for power that is evil to bring about good in these countries as well as the rest of Europe. Pray that Europeans in these countries will experience the salvation of Christ.

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4: 16, ESV)

Day 17: Friday, September 27 Praise the Lord for our sending churches in America and the volunteers that come and support IMB missionaries on the field. Their help is wonderful as they are involved in prayer walking, street evangelism, camps, trainings, medical and dental clinics and many other things which give Europeans the opportunity to encounter a God who loves them. As sending churches support and send volunteers on a regular basis, pray that they will continue to touch lives and open doors for many Europeans to hear of saving faith in Jesus Christ.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10: 17, NKJV)

Day 18: Saturday, September 28 Pray for the EURO Russian cluster which consists of Russia but also countries from the former Soviet Union. Pray for national believers and internationals living in these countries. As workers learn language and meet partners in the work, pray for many to come to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus.

“This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent – Jesus Christ.” (John 17:3, HCSB)

Day 19: Sunday, September 29 As we pray for the Western sub-cluster of the Russian cluster, please pray for the all Christian workers to continually seek the Lord for wisdom and guidance. With many small groups, disciples and discussion groups on university campuses; much prayer is greatly appreciated. Pray for believing students to share boldly with other students through outreach events and Bible studies. Pray for local church leaders to see a desire to see multiplication of disciples, groups and churches. Pray that leaders would grow in their confidence and passion to see new groups form and to be willing to train new leaders.

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9, HCSB)

Day 20: Monday, September 30 Today, please pray for the Eastern sub-cluster of the Russian Cluster. Pray for many to have a heart and desire for studying Scripture, in the churches and especially for the pastors. Pray for the formation of new churches and that there will be nationals that will go to different areas in these countries, this region and the world. Pray for some nationals who have surrendered to the call of missions and are in training now. Praise the Lord! Also pray for recently planted house churches and for the vision the churches have to reach the peoples around them.

“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’” (Matthew 9:37-38, ESV)

Day 21: Tuesday, October 1 As we look at the EURO Central Cluster, it is also made of two sub-clusters, the Germanic and Central Catholic sub-clusters. Pray for the leaders in this cluster to seek the Lord as they develop strategy in reaching these many people groups. This cluster is currently in transition. Many workers are new on the field and engaged in language school, others have been here for a long time and are in the US on stateside or will be leaving soon. Many have recently welcomed newborns into their homes, while others have seen children return for college, and still others are learning how to relate to their now adult children. All the while they still continue to start or continue Bible studies, work with national partners in planting churches and developing strategies to reach the lost. Pray for those in these countries to remain strong.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.” (Psalms 28: 7, NKJV)

Day 22: Wednesday, October 2 Pray for the countries of the Germanic sub-cluster including Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Pray for the national partners laboring alongside workers and for the many small groups that have been or are being formed in Germany. Pray that this may very well be the beginning of a church-planting movement in this country. Pray against the challenges that occur which may hinder this, including language, lack of church planter trainees, and sickness in families (here and the US). Workers in Austria are praying for an awakening in their country and for God to move the hearts of indigenous Austrians to take initiative in reaching their country for Christ. Please pray with them.

“’Yet even now,’ declares the LORD, ‘Return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping and mourning; and rend your heart and not your garments.’ Now return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in the lovingkindness and relenting of evil.” (Joel 2: 12-13, NASB)

Day 23: Thursday, October 3

The countries of the Central Catholic sub-cluster include Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. Many of the people in these countries still feel the effects from World War II and the following years of communism. Pray for them to be set free with the Good News of the gospel. Pray for them to have a firm foundation in the Word of God. Pray for new workers as they are in language school and adjusting to life in their new homes. There are several new church plants in

various locations which are growing and enduring struggles that come with that growth, such as needing new locations to meet and all that that entails. Pray for the national partners working with IMB representatives and pray for them to be in harmony as they move forward in building the Kingdom.

“Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.” (1 Thess. 5: 12-13, NIV)

Day 24: Friday, October 4 Pray for Prayer Advocates and Prayer Intercessors for the European Affinity. Pray for them to keep humble hearts and focused minds and to continue to feel compelled to plead with God on behalf of Europeans who face His judgement. Praise the Lord for the hard work of those who are interceding for workers, nationals and the work and that are standing in the gap for the European people.

“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it…” (Ezekiel 22: 30a, NKJV)

Day 25: Saturday, October 5 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4: 18-19, ESV)

Although many refugees are still trying to reach Europe, the crisis of untold numbers streaming into Europe as seen in 2015-2017 has decreased. Compared to millions of illegal refugees in 2015, only 150,114 arrived in 2018 (down by 92%). 333,400 were granted asylum during 2018, most arriving from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Continue to pray for leaders to listen to Godly wisdom and make God-honoring decisions. Pray for the refugees who are struggling physically and spiritually and need to hear the Gospel.

Day 26: Sunday, October 6 Pray for IMB Cluster Leaders and Team Leaders across the European Affinity. With the many diverse cultures, histories, languages and governments; no leader needs the exact same strategy for the region they lead. Pray for each of these leaders to continue to seek the Lord’s counsel as they lead and share vision/strategy to reach European peoples in their area with the message of the Gospel. Please be sure to pray for these leaders who work diligently and serve faithfully.

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5: 16b, NKJV)

Day 27: Monday, October 7

There are more than 225 indigenous languages spoken in Europe today. There are also many various dialects within each country which can sound like another completely different language. In addition, due to the influx of migrants and refugees, there are even more languages being found in Europe (ex. London has more than 300 spoken languages). Pray that God’s word will spread through these countries in the heart language of the people. Although it seems surprising in this day and age, especially in Europe, many areas still have little access to God’s Word. Sometimes it is due to the cost of the printed word, lack of access of the printed word, or suppression to God’s Word by religious or governmental authorities. Pray for people to have access to a Bible. Also, pray for workers as they study language. Pray that they become increasingly fluent, not with just the ability to read and write the language, but to speak clearly so that God’s Word can be shared without distraction from the speaker’s strange-sounding accent. Pray for fluency which is a God-sized task! As with Pentecost, we pray that all will hear the Gospel in his own language! (Acts 2:6)

Day 28: Tuesday, October 8 The EURO West Cluster is divided into 5 sub-clusters which include Northern Europe, London, France-BeNeLux, Iberia and Italy-Malta. Pray for the leaders of this cluster and sub-clusters. Many of these countries have a post-modern worldview with high living standards and are not seeking God. Pray for nationals to have their hearts pierced, that the scales of rebellion, temptations and self-sufficiency will be removed from their eyes, and they will see the need they have for the one and only Savior.

“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope – the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” (Titus 2: 11-14, NIV)

Day 29: Wednesday, October 9 Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland are all part of the Northern Europe sub-cluster. As we talked about yesterday, the predominant worldview sees no need for God. Please ask that workers will be an ongoing witness to the reality of Christ’s presence in their lives. Pray that as they worship God with pure hearts, love others as themselves, and do good without growing weary, they will reflect the Light of the world- Jesus Christ.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5: 14-16, NIV)

Day 30: Thursday, October 10 France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg make up the France-BeNeLux sub-cluster. As IMB representatives partner with other leaders, ask that they will see strong, healthy relationships and a church-planting vision develop. Pray that nationals will recognize a need for Christ in their lives and that the Lord would move among these countries. Pray that we would expect and see a harvest of new believers and disciples.

“So I will show my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.” (Ezekiel 38:23, ESV)

Day 31: Friday, October 11

Today we focus on the Italy-Malta sub-cluster. Pray for the leaders in the churches to be healthy and growing in love for the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Ask that they will be investing in others so that all will be equipped for the work of the ministry. As Malta faces new challenges and opportunities with an influx of foreigners, pray that the diversity of giftings will be appreciated and utilized rather than misunderstood and complicated. Pray for Christians in Italy to be bold and wise as they share their faith with those who profess to be Christians. Pray for them to be prepared in all instances to exhort God’s word to others.

“…preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” (2 Tim. 4:2, ESV)

Day 32: Saturday, October 12

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” (John 14:6, NKJV)

With Roman Catholicism’s long history in the countries of Spain and Portugal, the majority of people self-identify as Catholic. However, self-identifying as Catholic does not mean a knowledge of God or a practicing faith; traditions are integrated into daily life as well as social status. The majority do not participate in religious services and very few have a personal faith that comes from a clear understanding of salvation. Most have never a read a Bible, and most believe that being good and being Catholic will gain entrance to heaven. Pray for the people of the Iberian sub-cluster to come into a true saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray for IMB representatives to stay focused on strategies, plans and objectives that would bring glory to the LORD and make His name known through these countries. Pray for several church plants to remain strong and for the beginning of new church plants and that God would raise up disciples to expand the Kingdom work.

Day 33: Sunday, October 13

Students from countries all over the world study at the thousands of university campuses across Europe. They will be the future leaders of their nations and shape the next generation. Pray for Christian workers to take the opportunity to intentionally share God’s Word and His Truths with these students. As these students come to Christ, they truly can share with their nations and help to spread and build God’s Kingdom. Pray for students to desire to seek The Truth and not just accept lies and deceptions based on humanistic worldviews. Ask the Father to give workers and local believers boldness to share with them.

“In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1: 4-5, NASB)

Day 34: Monday, October 14 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3: 20-21, NIV)

Pray for national believers across the European affinity. Pray for boldness, unity, power and direction that only comes from the Holy Spirit. Pray for Him to work through them in ways that they cannot imagine. As IMB representatives partner with national believers; pray that the representatives will be considerate, teachable, patient, submissive, culturally sensitive and full of mercy.

Day 35: Tuesday, October 15

Today and the next couple of days we will focus prayer on some of the many unreached people groups (UPGs) across the European Affinity. An unreached people group is a people group in which the number of evangelical Christians totals less than two percent of the total population. Although we will highlight three different UPGs, please remember to pray for all UPGs in the European Affinity. Pray that all will come to know Him and worship our Lord and Savior.

“And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” (Romans 10: 14-15, NIV)

Day 36: Wednesday, October 16

Please pray for the over 11 million Czechs to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. With less than 1% evangelicals and over 70% of the country professing to be non-religious; it is a country in need of the Savior. IMB workers are conducting English camps, marriage seminars, and mom’s groups along with personal witnessing and evangelism. Please pray for the Czechs to have open hearts to the Truth as they hear it proclaimed!

“For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to evangelize – not with clever words, so that the cross of Christ will not be emptied of its effect.” (1 Cor. 1: 17, HCSB)

Day 37: Thursday, October 17

In a country that professes to be Christian but only 0.25% are evangelical, the work can be tough. Pray for workers working among the Orthodox of Greece. Pray for them as they lead discipleship classes and share the love of Jesus among their neighbors. Pray for open hearts to the life-giving message that comes only through a personal relationship with Jesus as their Savior. Pray for the Greek people.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” (Romans 1: 16, NKJV)

Day 38: Friday, October 18

France, a country that prides themselves on their openness and progressive thinking, is open to all things new, except the life-saving message of the Gospel. With less than 1% evangelicals in this country, there is a spark of light. As IMB representatives plant their lives among the French, sharing music in the city squares, food in cafes; they share the Gospel message to all that will listen. Ask the Lord to prepare the hearts of those they will contact even before they speak the first word. Pray for the French to know Jesus!

“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16: 15-16, NKJV)

Day 39: Saturday, October 19

Although most of Europe has a high standard of living, there are some predominant themes that exist throughout these countries. These include a lack of hope, loneliness, no positive vision for the future, threat of terrorism and unrest, economic concerns such as Brexit, trade treaties and the state of the European Union. Most do not believe in God. Therefore, the idea of a loving God that cares for them is not real or applicable. They have been called post-Christian, but many are actually pre-Christian, having never heard anything about God or His son Jesus. Pray for Christian workers and Christian nationals to find opportunities to share, disciple and plant churches that will be beacons of lights in the communities of the European countries. Pray for them to find peace, rest and hope through Jesus.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11: 28, NIV)

Day 40: Sunday, October 20 Day of Prayer for European Peoples Pray Europeans will hear the Word of God, believe that He exists, repent of their sins and ask for forgiveness. Pray for the national Christian partners as they labor with workers to build the Kingdom of God in Europe. Pray for boldness, unity, a clear vision, and wisdom to disciple believers and plant churches in Europe. Pray that one day a multitude of Europeans will be standing before the throne and praising the Lamb. Intercede urgently for God’s Spirit to move across the face of Europe in revival.

“After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were robed in white and palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7: 9-10, HCSB)
